Product Description

The Piranha 2 is a single-piece, multi-purpose pocket tool constructed from heat-treated, 100% stainless steel. A built-in rubber bit holder secures a Leatherman bit. Like the fish for which it's named, the Piranha pocket tool will help you get the job done quickly: tightening screws, loosening bolts, prying things open and popping the top on your favorite beverage. And, since you'll barely notice this super slim multitool in your pocket, it's perfect for everyday carry. It's also TSA-compliant so there is no need to worry about it when you board your next flight. Weight: 1.9 oz (54 g); Length: 3.87 inches (9.82 cm).

I spent a month planning, measuring, cutting, and sewing a leather sheath for my leatherman wave, the extension, two bit kits and this pocket wrench. I decided to go ahead and buy this because with the wave and other accessories I would be pretty well covered as far as multi tools are concerned. I split my enormous kit up into two parts. My custom leather belt holster for my wave, the extension and my thrunite Ti aaa flashlight and a slim sheath for the two bit kits and this wrench. I love how this wrench will accept the leatherman bits and the spring will keep them in place, along with regular 1/4 bits. The scraper portion of this tool is nice and there is jimping in three locations. I have used the metric and standard wrenches on this tool and they work well but slippage increases as size of the bolt/nut increases. It's a great little tool to use in a pinch and beats going to a tool box or carrying multiple small wrenches. In the picture I've included the pihirana 2 is behind the two bit kits in the sheath along with my other edc items, this great little tool has completed my leatherman EDC kit and I love it.

Like all pocket tools this is really only for occasions when you don't have access to a tool box or proper tools. That said, this is an excellent thing to keep in your pocket or purse. It's small, heavy duty and does as advertised. I have used it to pry, to tighten screws, to loosen and tighten nuts, to open packages (not as good as a knife or box cutter in that respect) and, yes, to open bottles. Surprisingly light for such a sturdy tool.

The picture on this item is incorrect. It's actually the Piranah 2 that I received. The newer version has a couple modifications. First and most obvious is the addition of a long spring across the spine that (I suppose) is intended to hold the bits in. There is also now a flat hole for the Leatherman flat bit which replaced the round bit. The original hold for the hex bit remains but has been just moved slightly to the rear. The "nose" is apparently also a little longer.

The quality of the steel is what you would expect from Leatherman. I don't expect it to break anytime soon (or at all). My only beef is the leaf spring across the top. It appears that they're trying to make a way to hold the bit into place so it doesn't slip or fall out. Good idea, but the tension of the spring has to be a pretty tight tolerance and it can be difficult to get the bit in. Part of that is the spring is very very slightly beveled and the bit on mine slides in easier from the port side (with the lettering) rather than starboard side.

Compact multitool with a great set of tools. In comparison against the other mini Leatherman tools, the big thing here is you get box wrenches for both sae and metric, and a screwdriver.

It's super durable. I use the scraper a lot and it still hasn't lost its coating after a year. Only complaint is the small screwdriver. It's weird to setup. I prefer to use my Swiss+Tech Utility Key for that, and it compliments this tool well with its small knife.

(Comes in 2 pack) It’s good quality; however, it and an awkward size. Too large for a key chain. The rubber part holding the extra bit protrudes from the tool making it awkward to carry in your pocket. I won’t be using this as an every day carry, but will keep it.

It's an improvement over the previous model, in that it has a retention mechanism for the bits, but remains almost as cumbersome to use. The switch from standard 1/4" bits to Leatherman's proprietary 2D bits saves nothing in terms of size and bulk, although to their credit, they've at least retained the standard driver on the tool itself. (Leatherman's 2D bits are compatible with a standard driver anyway, although the reverse is obviously not true.)

If you don't need two mediocre wrenches, and want a small pry/driver tool for Leatherman's 2D bits, the Leatherman #4 is a far more compact option that will actually fit in your pants pocket. (Like the first version, it's larger than many people would assume from the product pictures.) Unfortunately, although there's space for it, you also give up a standard driver with the #4—but that's another review.

When all is said and done, however, it is still a solid tool with Leatherman's usual fit and finish. It will do the job in a pinch, and it's TSA-friendly. I keep mine in a ditty bag that rides in my day pack, but I probably wouldn't buy it again given the price.

EDIT 28/4/2016: 420 isn't the right steel for this tool. The first time I lent it to a classmate to adjust the seat on her bike, she overtorqued it and snapped it in half. The Leatherman distributor here in the Netherlands replaced it, of course, but I'm (a) not going to lend out tools again, and (b) be very gentle with this thing, and keep sending it back until there's a product update and it actually holds up to wrenching, being… a wrench.

I purchased this item in 2015 and have carried it every day since. It rides as part of my system, the Piranha2 is hooked onto a small key chain with my Leatherman Micra, the key chain is separate from my vehicle keys as its too heavy to keep both together.
I have found the tool handy more times than I can count and never knew I needed a scraper or pry bar until I received this then after using it a few times I knew I needed it. I have used all the tools on it as its quick to access and if for some reason I needed more function then I went to the Micra or the Rebar that I have.
One thing that is not mentioned in any of the other reviews that I really like is just having it in the pocket as a, "worry stone", if you will. I have gotten so used to carrying it that I will very often just have a hand on it or have it out messing with it just to channel any type of nervous energy I guess.
At any rate all tools have limits but as part of my system (Piranha2, Micra, Rebar) it really works.

It's worked its way in to my every day carry. Fantastic little tool, but the rubber grommet keeps it from sitting totally flat. Not a big deal for me, since it still fits in my sheath, but worth noting.
