The goal of each Chronicle is to present an Enlightened “Archetype,” and explore its characteristics. While each Chronicle is a stand-alone episode that can be read independently, it is a part of a much larger and continuing story which is easier to understand and follow if it is read in sequential order.

In this episode, we meet Richard Maxwell, a moderately religious man who is also the CFO of a Fortune 50 company. Maxwell is the classic "Sannyasa" enlightened archetype. We also will meet someone from Ledi Arhat's past and learn more about “Jacobin” who is the driving force behind the mysterious disappearance of so many enlightened souls.

WHAT IS AN AWAKENING?

An awakening occurs when something so profoundly changes the world that all of the old rules no longer apply. A powerful new order arrives, completely unexpected and without warning, and things are never the same again.

The First Awakening occurred approximately 200,000 years ago when Homo sapiens emerged in East Africa, but it took another 150,000 years for things to begin to get interesting.

The Second Awakening saw the emergence of spoken language, early shamans, and great myths being told around the campfire. For the first time, early humans became self-aware and while still considering themselves a part of nature, they understood they were now different. We became aware of our own mortality. We started to fear death and began to seek a deeper understanding of the cycle of life and how it applied to us. We started to develop increasingly complex rituals of burying our dead to prepare them for the afterlife we hoped existed. We began a desperate search for immortality in any form.

The Third Awakening began around 3,000 years ago. It saw the rise of all modern religions, as well as science. Between 800 BC and 400 BC, there was a religious explosion. The key events in the Old Testament occurred, from which emerged Judeo/Christian beliefs. At the same time Taoism was being followed by Confucianism in China. The same was happening with Shintoism in Japan, and Hinduism and Buddhism in India, and later Islam.

For the past 500 or so years, the political power of religion has waned while the power of science has flourished. With videos of Space Shuttles exploding on cable news, both sides politicizing environmental science to serve their personal agenda and “safe” nuclear power plants melting down, science is now in retreat. When the big ideas from the previous Awakening start to collapse, a new Awakening is on the horizon.

The stories in the Fourth Awakening series are very interesting and cause me to want to learn more. However, the whole concept is presented rather vaguely. My attempt to discover more through the website provided left me disheartened. It is apparent that this is a closed avenue for anyone who is interested.

A Great Continuation

I enjoyed the Fourth Awakening and was excited to learn that the story was continuing. I found the serialization format worth a shot as well. Chronicles II is a great read.

I like some others, found Chronicles I, unsatisfying. It was an appetizer more than an entree. A very good egg roll, but not filling. Chronicles II is an entree portion of the "Awakening" story. A fresh, meal sized fillet, seasoned with fresh spices and cooked with care to perfection, then served pipping hot.

We follow Penelope, Ian, and their Indian friend to Cincinnati, Ohio. The story moves, you want to know what is happening, and at the end you are both satisfied and wanting Chronicles III. As there are only 60 or so pages of story of the 90 total, I don't want to give too much away, but it is a well written episode.

Several reviewers seem put off by the serial concept. And yes, the author makes more selling by the chapter (although Chronicles II is 12 chapters long). The serial format kept Charles Dickens out of Debtor's Prison, so Pennington is in good company. For that matter, a certain British spy appeared in magazines 50 years ago, before "Shaken not stirred." was a household phrase. There are some disadvantages to the form. It is hard to squeeze sub plots, blind alleys, and back story into 60 pages. Each of the Chronicles books has been less than a week of "story" time. The format has advantages especially in an online, instant feedback world. The readers comments can affect the story in near real time. Chronicles II is twice as long as I. The shortness of Chronicles I was noted by several reviews. Chronicles II also adds that the entire Chronicles saga will be available as a single book at some point in the future.

Maybe someone could start an email campaign to bring Penelope Spence to your home town?

I will be waiting on Chronicles III and IV.

I checked this out because I thought science fiction and higher consciousness were too good things to put together. Instead the authors make this like some kind of fairy tale with no real science at all. Also, this particular chronicle just drops off without finishing. Maybe if this were about genetic engineering to make humans more peaceful, less warlike, sharing rather than competing, I could have gotten into it. But this think is akin to the Christian Rapture where one character or another starts disappearing off the face of the earth.

I jumped into II with both eyes and loved it from the first moment. A shift from Vegas to so much I experience (well not all the money... ;-) ). Relationships changing and priorities shifting, Things inside are different and how to be in relationship with the same people and stay true to the me I am now loving so very much. I've read The Fourth Awakening and Chronicles I and II, and I enjoyed them very much. The continuation of the original story continues to draw me back. As a long time student of all things relating to personal and spiritual growth I find the core of the story to be intriguing. I highly recommend this book, but strongly suggest you start with The Fourth Awakening and proceed through the Chronicles in order.

The guys have done it again!!! Another great installment to the Fourth Awakening series. In reading the first book I felt so connected to the characters. I learned some very helpful tools for my own life and have actually put them to use. I enjoy the novelets because for me it is a better soultion then waiting a year for the next book to come out. I loved the two full length Fourth Awakening books. These chronicles extend the story. They are good, but just as it seems the story begins, it's over. I think I'd rather have them all as one book than have it in tiny pieces.
