Given all the inaccurate reviews, I thought I would post a review with a little more clarity. Like most everyone else here, I purchased this product ignorant of what it would do. I wanted to connect my USB-powered Blue Yeti mic to my Nikon camera. It doesn't work. However, I knew that was a possibility when I bought it. (The mic needs a power source that the camera doesn't provide) I did use the adapter to connect a USB headset to the 3.5mm jack on my computer, and it worked fine.
It isn't right for so many to be dumping on a product just because it wasn't designed to perform the task they want.
The product was was shipped in protective packaging and arrived about four days after I ordered it. That's good customer service -and a product that works perfectly. Five stars are what was honestly earned, Five stars are what they get.

Your USB device that you want to plug into this has a male plug. That plug draws power to allow your USB device to work.

This adapter will not supply any power because the round jack that this device plugs into doesn't supply any power either. The USB connection will be made, but your USB device will not be powered on, and so it will not work.

What device could this adapter work for? Something completely passive. That means a plain microphone (no noise cancelling mics or electret) and plain headphones (again, no noise canceling). Those don't use any power - they just need the signal this device, in theory, provides. There will be no power supplied at the USB plug, so any USB device that does anything that requires power (which is basically everything else I can think of) will never power on.

It would be like buying an adapter that has an electric plug on one end and a hose adapter on the other end: plug your vacuum cleaner into your faucet! Your vacuum cleaner will never power on so it will never work.

There's only ONE application that I can think of for which you might be able to use this adapter. Some devices recharge via a 3.5mm jack. You can plug the jack into that device and then plug a male to male USB cord into a powered USB port and into this device and I assume your device will recharge via the 3.5 mm jack (though I've never tested it).

If, on the other hand, you are going to plug the USB part of this adapter into a device that performs active functions, and expect audio to come out the other end, I doubt this will work, as most devices that have a USB interface are active devices, which need power, and this adapter isn't going to supply it.

I was hoping this would work with my ipod nano and my wireless logitech head phones since I dont have $300 to prchase new wireless earphones from the apple store. Very bummed out that it doesnt work would have made listening to music and doing homework much easier and cheaper for me too. Product is a great idea and the shipment came in faster than items that I had purchased days before. great service and they are willing to accept it back for a full refund. Great customer support and service. I would definately buy more from them.

It's probably a good product when it is used for it's purposes but, I was disappointed to find that it could not connect my gaming headphones-(Arches Sentry GS - 4730) to my Ipod touch 4G. Any help with why this may be?

I have no idea what this is actually for! Thought it would hook my mp3 player to my car since I don't have a usb jack in my car. Didn't do that. Admittedly that was my own ignorance, but the more I thought about it... I have no clue what this would do at all. Sorry!?!?????

Keep in mind that this thing cannot distribute power in a way that some usb plug-in items may need. I'm not going to return an item for my own under-sight, however, I feel like maybe I can help someone else who may not be considering that aspect as well.

What most people are misunderstanding are the basic ports of audio/visual. You PC, amplifyer, speakers, etc. are comprised of input and output ports. Your output ports send power/signals to those ports for devices like your speakers to power. Your input ports take in signals that are being transmitted (i.e. Microphone). If you plug a device that needs to receive signals into an "input" port, it's obviously not going to work as it needs power/signals coming "out" of that device, therefore you need to make sure that if you want a working USB port with this cable, your 3.5mm port you are plugging this into is an "output" or "out" port.
