My wireless HP Photosmart printer decided to give up the "wireless" part of its functionality. It's still a pretty good printer, but having to move my laptop over to the printer to connect it every single time I wanted to print something was a serious pain. VOILA! Enter low-tech inexpensive solution! 12 feet was a tad too short. 16 feet stretches the distance and allows the cable to lie on the floor in a way that is not a hazard to life and limb. I can now print again while sitting on my bed like God intended. Works perfectly!

A Basically Good Cable

Having worked in retail at one time, I learned the valuable lesson that when you buy a piece of equipment, the accessories and add-ons that are helpfully displayed in many cases right next to the equipment have a profit margin considerably larger than the equipment itself. So, customers who are very happy that the "helpful" sales person pointed out that they needed an extra cable don't realize that the sales person just turned a marginal transaction into a profitable one ... for the store. And, unless the customer has super high-end equipment or is doing professional level work with the equipment, in most cases, whatever additional performance benefits the sales person is touting in regard to the accessories won't make a significant difference.

When I replaced my printer recently, I also had to replace the old-style multi-pin cable I had been using to connect it to my computer with a USB A-male to B-male cable. I could have bought one at the retailer in the six-foot length I wanted for $15. Instead, I ordered an AmazonBasics cable for less than one-third that price. For those who might be unaware, AmazonBasics is Amazon’s house generic brand of electronic and computer accessories. I’ve been using this cable for about three months now, and the only place I’ve noticed a difference is in my wallet.

The AmazonBasics printer cable is sold in 6, 10, and 16 foot lengths; I bought the six-foot cable. In all honesty, I hadn’t touched the cable between the time I plugged the printer in and today, when I unplugged it to get a more accurate description for this review. The cable is gold plated on each end (which does give you a better connection). It’s a reasonably thick cable, about 1/8" in diameter. The cable is black, and it’s firmly attached to the plug at both ends. The cable is also reasonably flexible; I could easily bend it to within 0.5” of itself. This means that the Amazon Basics cable is unlikely to get pulled out of the plug, cut, frayed, or broken. In other words, it should be pretty well immune to damage from being yanked out, stepped on, or having some bulky object placed on it.

As far as how well the AmazonBasics cable works, I’ve got no complaints. The printer prints quickly and accurately every time I send it a command to do so. Of course, having only had the cable for a few months, I can’t comment on how long it might last, However, my general experience has been that cables don’t “wear out”; it’s usually some external trauma that puts them out of commission.

The AmazonBasics cable is an inexpensive cable, not a cheap one. It’s solidly constructed and built to last. Although looks can be deceiving, in this case, it has the look and feel of a more expensive cable, and it has worked perfectly for over three months. Basically, the AmazonBasics cable is all you need.

I have a couple USB peripherals -- a scanner and label printer -- that I wanted to put on a side table several feet from my CPU. I figured I'd buy some long USB cables and give them a shot ... several reviewers have had trouble with the longer lengths, but it wasn't clear to me if that was an issue with cable length or the USB ports (or hub) that they were using. With the 16 foot cables plugged directly into USB 2.0 ports on the back of my CPU -- not into a hub -- I am having no problems at all. For the money, these cables are good value, as the extra length made it a lot easier to put my little used peripherals off to one side of my desk.

Technically works?

I bought two of these wire because I needed something just a bit longer for my Blue Snowball microphone and my Huion pen display, and while it works fine for the Huion tablet, I did notice something troubling in regard to the Blue microphone. The end that plugged into the microphone itself had a habit of sliding out of the port just slightly and interrupting the signal. I compared the two and I noticed there was a bit of a size discrepancy between the plugs.
The two on the left are the Blue and Huion USBs, respectively. The gold-plated one on the right is the Amazon plug. I don't know if there's a huge difference, but to my eyes, it looks like the Amazon USB has a wider interior than the others—which might explain why it didn't sit correctly.
I'm planning on returning one of the cables.

I got this cord for my photo scanner, an Epson V600, I put off using it for a long time and when I got to scanning my film negatives the scanner would respond, but got hung up, thought it was the scanner or software, but I changed the cord for a shorter one I had and all worked well. Wish I would have checked when I bought this cord to see if it worked...lesson learned. My advice is if you get one of these cords check it before too much time pasts so you will not be stuck with an unusable product like me.

I bought this cord with the expectation that it would allow me to keep my business printer in a more convenient location. Right out of the package, this cord offered me nothing but problems. It would only work occasionally and only for the first page of a document. I became extremely frustrated with my printer and was literally on the verge of throwing it as far as I could out of my office... I thought for sure that it could not be the cord. I'm glad I checked the original 2' cord... it worked fine, just too short. A hard lesson learned is the only lesson learned; you get what you pay for...

I am using this cable for my EPSON XP 420 printer to my chromebook. I have had no problem with this cable.It seems to be sturdy and durable. I was worried that I would lose some performance with a 16 foot cable. I have not lost signal or had any problems with this cable. I move the printer around sometimes and disconnect and re connect several times and the gold plated connecters stay in place and tight every time. this is also backed by a 1 year amazonbasics warranty. I will purchase again when the time comes.

The dreaded printer cable - amongst the dullest purchases that can be made for your laptop/desktop computer. So, cut to the chase - the Amazon basics cable does the job well, reasonably priced and cuts out the risk of getting a faulty cable. Do yourself a favour- don’t waste any thinking time on this - if you need a printer cable then buy this one. Yes - there will be cheaper ones but this is Amazon - good delivery, any problems you can send it back yadda yadda. Just get it, plug it in, forget about it - a life lesson that i’m giving you got free...

Good value longish cable

Perfect cable for the canon MG2550S printer that is (embarrassingly) sold by Canon without a cable and isn’t wireless.

Pros:
Versatile: It’s an A to B USB cable, with the B side fitting printers, servers, hard drives etc.
Good length: It is as advertised - 1.8m - this length requires your printer/device to be close enough to the computer. If you need a longer cable, Amazon sells a 3m-length one for 10p more.
Competitively priced: Lots of expensive as well as cheaper options out there. For me, Amazon Basics is the perfect balance of price and quality - I wouldn’t want to pay any more for a cable to be honest but yet won’t want to take any unnecessary risk by purchasing a ridiculously cheap unbranded cable that may blow up.

Cons: Not very long if your connecting devices aren’t very close. Amazon sells a 3m-length one for 10 p more.

Overall, I’ll recommend this as a good purchase.

Great cable for use with my guitar amp

I'm not actually using this for a printer, but for my guitar amp. I have the 16 foot one going under my bed and under the carpet from my amp to computer and it works perfectly. There is no delay or anything, when I turn the amp on the computer recognizes it immediately, and when I'm using the BOSS software there is no delay when playing.

The cable seems to be nice and sturdy. I have moved the amp a bit since getting it and also moved my bed several times, and after all that the cable is just the same as when it was new.

So while I can't speak for how this works when using it as for a printer, for guitar amps (or BOSS Katana amps at least) it works perfectly. I can only imagine it works good for printers though.

Not good enough fo Dolby Vision

I bought this to connect my new 4K OLED TV. With most content it works just fine but when trying to watch 4K content that uses Dolby Vision, I see occasional sparkles on screen which is a sign that the cable is not capable of delivering enough bandwidth.
A different cable (that still didn’t cost a fortune) solved the problem.
So for most uses, this cable will be fine but if you are pushing for the very best content, this cable might not be good enough

Before going to university I bought a wireless printer. However, upon arriving in student halls and attempting to connect my laptop to my printer, I found that I was unable to do so due to security measures on the WiFi. It was cheap, could be delivered the next day, and even had a discount applied to Amazon Student members. It arrived quickly, worked perfectly and is still in great condition after almost a full year of frequent use. There are some products for which it may be worth paying extra for a 'premium' or branded item, however for this product that certainly was not the case. The cable was and is excellent, and perfect for daily use.
