I'm one individual in a sea of people who love to read things they have written. Anyways, after reading some of the negative reviews I feel compelled to say something. First off I am not defending Dillinger escape plan I am just speaking about music with regard to them. I have never heard a punk band that can be as ragged as any other punk band and add some jazz inspired off beat drumming especially the interesting bass drum inflections in some of the songs. How can someone miss the technical prowess in the relationship between the guitars and drums. The wildly chaotic sounding rhythms which sound childish until you try to comprehend how every hit of the ridiculously confusing snare is played perfectly in time with the guitars. How about the simple idiosyncrasy in the atypical chords used by the guitarist in this genre? By the way what genre is this? That imaginative way of not fitting a mold and of being courageous enough to put something into a song because you are writing what you feel instead of trying to conform to one style all the way through a career. That's the new underground. Please musicians write songs you want to write, songs you've got inside that wants to come out. The rebellion in this time of history is to not get mired into one pigeonhole of music. The opposite of something like Metallica from the black album on. Also, how about the vocals? The vocalist shows on more than just this album that a singer can be truly, sickly punk who is screaming with no falsetto old style heavy metal crap, and then follow up with smooth, layered choruses and bridges if he feels like it. if all you hear is noise then I implore you to stop hearing the superficial surface and dig into what is under the punk flow. How about this? If you think this is noise and you actually play an instrument, pick it up and play along. Good luck. You will soon see the work that goes into it. This is just simply not a superficial band, their musicality and technical skills are buried deeper than most because they don't use the simple techniques that many musicians use to appear outstanding. For instance, the music stopping when the guitar solo kicks in. It adds richness to nothingness. So, agree or don't I could care less. I said what I needed to because when I read some other reviews I was actually embarrassed that I had read them.

Best DEP yet, a deep synthesis of everything they've been doing

I've now belatedly caught up with DEP, and of all their albums, this is my favorite.

Three albums on from MISS MACHINE, the first with Greg Puciato on vocals, and the first with the strong Mike Patton/FNM influence (following of course the EP with Patton singing!), I find that the band has most effectively blended all the disparate elements that were there in their dazzling diversity on IRE WORKS. OPTION PARALYSIS, in retrospect, looks transitional, with the process taken further here and more effectively. The production is key, with a rich, burnished tone.

ONE OF US IS THE KILLER and IRE WORKS are the DEP albums I reach for most often. Greg's lyrics have improved, and these are his best yet. The rampant misogyny of MISS MACHINE is gone, replaced by more thought-provoking observations of personal, social, and political situations, including "The Threat Posed By Nuclear Weapons."

The superb graphic art really adds to the overall effect -- every song has its own ink drawing and hand lettered lyrics in the booklet -- kudos to Brian Montuori!

Why Hello Again Mighty D.E.P

D.E.P has been one of my top three favorite bands since I randomly bought their Miss Machine album back in high school and this release did not let me down completely. I think this is the weakest album they have put out in years, in terms of memorable tracks, but the album is rock solid regardless. The other D.E.P albums lived in my player for months after their release being played daily on repeat without getting tiresome to me, this album does click with me as well, and that is primarily due to the lack of awesome melodic hooks, but ITS D.E.P they rule, buy it, love it, or don't love it whatever just buy it.

Dillinger Escape Plan's crowning achievement

The Dillinger Escape Plan has always been a band that takes the unexpected road and leaves people with their jaws on the floor. This album is pretty much flawless in my opinion. The Drums are chaotic, yet at the same time have the precision and feel you might find in a fusion band or jazz trio. The Bass has a beefy tone that lays the foundation for the record's bombastic sound. The guitars are frantic, chaotic, and at times very melodic. The vocals are varied between a harsh scream that borders on insanity and phenomenal Clean Vocals. The production is top notch. The album has a very heavy, beefy sound. The songwriting has surprises at every turn and keeps the listener guessing. No filler tracks either, each song is great. Some of my favorite Tracks include Prancer, One of us is the Killer, Hero of the Soviet Union, and Nothing's Funny. This is honestly one of the best albums I've heard this year. Pick it up!!!

Greg Puciato (vocalist) has stated in the past that even Dillinger can sometimes fall into patterns and repetitions. With the last album, Option Paralysis, I thought that this sentiment was very apparent. It was a solid album, but with really no musical progression. One of Us is the Killer is everything you love about Dillinger PLUS some cool new stuff- songs with clean vocals, interesting musical harmonies, all with that signature Dillinger twist.

Certainly my favorite album by The Dillinger Escape plan, and possibly one of my favorite albums in general. As soon as I got it it's all I listened to for four days straight on repeat. I listen to it quite often and every time I listen to it I like it even more. The chaos induced jazz fusion metal is so real.

DEP's "One of Us Is the Killer" is a great album from start to finish. Every track has something else to offer and the band is as hard hitting as ever. The album is similar to the style of Option Paralysis but taken to the next level. Greg's vocals keep improving with each Dillinger album and with this album you'll be amazed at his range capability. If you enjoyed more recent Dillinger (Miss Machine to Option Paralysis) then don't miss out this album. This will be considered Dillinger's classic album in years to come.
