My experience with Hylomar goes back to the '70s. The formula was developed by Rolls Royce aviation and I have used this product on many automotive applications, where a leak proof seal was needed, but afforded an ability to separate the parts at a later date, should the component suffer a failure. Cadillac produced a small 241 cu.in. V8 engine that was a good little performer but had a habit of developing leaking intake manifold gaskets, an apparent design fault. The manufacturer recommended some "magic" tablets to be added to the engine coolant to keep the gaskets in condition. My remedy was to coat the gaskets on both sides with Hylomar and the owners never had a problem with the gaskets again! That is only one instance. There are many more. Use this product for your problem solver and you won't regret it.

I learned of Hylomar some years ago when I bought my first old British motorcycle. A little smear of this stuff goes a long way.

Does a great job when applied to both sides of a gasket and also to both matching surfaces of and engine or transmission component. Make a leakproof seal and help to make up for imperfection in the fitted part surfaces. It does not harden and is relatively easy to separate the engine components later on, compared to say, RTV. A paper or fiber gasket isn’t likely to survive, though, and will need to be replaced.

I found that it’s necessary to check the bolt torque again after the Hylomar has setup for a while. It does squeeze out and compress and invariably the bolts need a small snugging.

One of the best joint sealant products that you can purchase

Hylomar is a unique product. It never completely dries. Because of this it's an exceptional product to use when you need to seal a joint that has coolant or oil passing through it. Since it doesn't dry there's no chance of excess squeezing out and blocking off a coolant or oil passage hole. One of my favorite uses for this product is sealing the camshaft caps on overhead cam engines. It eliminates the possibility of an oil leak without the risk of possibly plugging off the oil supply to the cam bearing.

I've used lots of different sealers over the decades, and this one is top notch. Used for the first time on my '86 Grand Marquis timing cover, water pump, and thermostat gaskets - car doesn't leak a drop! What showed me how good this stuff was, was the fact that the 2 cork corner gaskets on this 302 V8 had slid FAR out of position as I was trying to mount the timing cover back in place, without ever removing or loosening the oil pan. Thought for sure I would have a leaker after that, but the Hylomar sealed it right up! Very impressed.

EDIT 2/6/2021: Product solidified and was useless after a year and a half. I've had other sealers last 4 years without issues before. Won't buy again due to the high cost and lack of storage capability. I bought a cheaper version made by Permatex, and it works just as good, without the short storage issues.

This stuff works!

I've been using this during the restoration of my 1960 Morris Minor.

I just completely replaced the fuel system and have used this to seal fuel line threads and fuel pump gaskets.

I've also used this to seal the threads for the oil pressure sending units.

This Hylomar Blue works well. No leaks. Does not harden. Can use it for gasoline and oil.

I've got a bunch more parts coming and I'll be using this during the entire restoration.

I recommend it.

Arrived a few days ago, and I set it in my tool box in the original box until the motorcycle I needed it for came in for work. Now, I have the motorcycle on my lift, torn apart, and went to use the product. Turns out there was a ball-point pen size puncture through the box and into the tube. Product was all inside of the box, dried and separated. It's obviously been damaged for some time. Had to use pliers to pull the tube from the box as it was essentially glued into the box by the leaked product. Now I have to stop work until I can order and receive a replacement. I am furious.

Not the old Hylomar at all. Very disappointed. The old Hylomar that was so useful was a very thick blue goo that did not harden and could withstand just about any fluid, including gasoline. This is blue, bit it's solvent based and fries to a useless sticky thin coating. Sad.

Hylomar is the best all purpose non hardening gasket coating etc, period. I use on brake hose copper seals, works great. I have been using this since mid 80's. it is made Rolls-Royce for Jets, I worked on L-1011 back in day... I recently did Lexus cam and front crank seal, many people online had leaks after doing them and talk about "glueing" them in with silicone, Well, I have no leaks and they will come out.
