I was expecting a guitar that needed a little work on the frets, better quality tone and volume pots, my usual Sprague orange drop caps and the Japanese Epiphone p90s off of my Elitist casino.....NOPE! Other than a roller bridgehttps://a.co/d/2bdTaBL that fit right on without even changing the studs, it's freaking perfect right out of the box! Nice fat clear sounding pickups, nice and bright without the icepick-like highs, sounds great clean or overdrive/distortion and even a fuzzface. If you're on the fence about getting one of these 1478s, do yourself a favor AND BUY IT!

Wow! I was so lucky to get this on sale for half of what they normally go for.
Beautiful finish and came set up right out of the box.

Out of the box, the set up was pretty good.
I made minor adjustments just to get it to my liking.
The frets are not polished, but I will take care of that when it's due a string change.
Speaking of, these are strung up from the factor with D'adario strings.

Pickups sound good, Bigsby works smooth, electronics all work well.

Fit, finish, and all hardware are great.
The tuners could be better, but they work.

My only complaint would have to be the nut.
The slots are too tight on the G and B strings, so when you tune, you get that 'ping' sound.

Again, like the frets, I will address that when it's time to replace the strings.

It's a fun guitar. It sounds and plays great.

I bought this new from a large retailer and was surprised to learn, via the serial number (check your packaging or under the neck plate), that the guitar was manufactured almost a decade ago (May 2013) which makes the rosewood fretboard at this price point all the more understandable as it was more widely available and used back then. I was also surprised to see that the pickups, stated by Silvertone (Samick) as "reverse-engineered the old pickups and duplicated as closely as possible", look to be the same BHK Allparts PU-6458-010 that are also used in the Gretsch Electromatic Lap Steel. And the rumors are true, the frets were the sharpest of any guitar I've ever tried, actually cut up my fingers testing it out, but I have a hunch that has a lot to do with the fretboard drying out after sitting in a box for a decade.

Now the good: the finish is great and I love the weight and feel of this guitar. Looks great and the pickups, while likely not custom, are vibrant and unique and refreshingly different while having some good output and clarity. Knobs are admittedly another terribly cheap plastic head scratcher but even at the retail price point, once you take care of that fretboard it's a great value for everything you get even at the retail price point (Bigsby, rosewood, mahogany, fretboard binding).
