You're gonna like it, but pay attention.

It's just large enough to look manly. It's just small enough to avoid the obvious pretension that it's "not a purse".

This bag is of the very best quality. There's a one year warranty to replace your bag even if the airlines have mangled it. And five years for any defect. If you register the bag there's a sewn-in label with a number to return your bag to you in the event of losing it. I've set aside my Fossil bag for this one because it's so much better.

UPDATE 2, April 2015, (18 Months after the last update)

This is a very late update. Just wanted to say that the Hickory bag is black black black with a modest brown trim. I had to return that, too, because of the color. I finally bought another model of Tumi bag that is actually brown, and I like it.

MY original Black Tumi is, after more than two years, in perfect shape. It looks new. I still love these bags.

UPDATE AND WARNING September 2013 (4 months later):

I now waiting for my second Tumi Alpha Bravo Day Beale Mini Messenger Bag in a new color. The first still looks absolutely new despite my having carried it every day for 4 months. No other bag has ever done this. I'm thinking of donating my canvas Fossil bag to the Salvation Army. There's just no comparison. The Tumi bag has also changed my default preference about the size of messenger bags. I really don't need those briefcase-or-laptop-sized things and I'm happy to be rid of them. This smaller bag feels less cumbersome and a little more fashionable. Naturally, your needs and preferences may differ.

A warning, though: there are two very different bags using this same name. Some of the bags, like the black one I bought, are made of ballistic nylon. Others, like the color "Sahara", are made of polyester. I recently ordered the Sahara without noticing this. I really disliked the polyester, so I returned it right away. You may like the polyester versions, but I didn't feel confident that they would wear as well as the nylon bags. If you click the different colors here, the resultant descriptions indicate the material in each bag, so look at each to be sure you're getting what you want. I'd have been happy to have the Sahara in nylon.

I finally ordered the "Hickory" color at the Tumi website because it wasn't available here on Amazon. I got the same price as Amazon's and free shipping from Tumi, but I did have to pay sales tax there. Tumi also takes Paypal, so I bought there rather than another non-Amazon vendor.

I took this bag with me on an all-day trip into Atlanta for a Braves game. Wore it during the Marta ride to and from stadium, during our visit to Underground and everywhere in between. I'm used to carrying tactical-type bags, but wanted something a little more refined. It was comfortable to carry all day (8+ hours). It held a 16oz water bottle, snacks, phone, sunscreen, keys and a couple of small hand-towels with no issues. The magnets that hold the flap closed seem to be just about the right strength. It stays closed but can be opened with one hand easily. The only drawback was that I felt I had to keep an eye on this bag a little more in the crowds because it doesn't have a secure fastening mechanism.

Perfect Size for Many, But Not All, Tasks

Love the look of this bag but be certain you want to go this small. Suitable for on the go trips around the city. But challenging to include basic letter-sized documents make it a tough choice for work. Also, the fabric tends to be a bit heavier than some of the lighter weight bags. The number of pockets make it very handy and obviously made with the usual great Tumi quality.

I have been using this men;s handbag for about a month.
What a buy!!! This is one of those Amazon products where the online picture does not do it justice.
The actual product was a rich, shiny green; I love the color and the feel.The brown strap goes great with the green body of the bag.
The look and feel screams quality, good job Tumi for a fine product.
Love the magnet flap, so easy to open the bag, no buckles to mess with.
It is great to know that Tumi is actually an American company out of NJ.
I walked into the Tumi store in Rodeo Drive wearing my bag and the monogrammed it for me free.
A great bag, I would strongly recommend Tumi based on this buying experience.

Its a little small, you can't fit a laptop or a medium book. My tablet just barely squeezes in. I'm currently using this as a bag to go inside a larger bag, which means the stylishness is pretty much wasted.

Once I determined where i wanted to keep certain items and in which of the myriad of pockets my Tumi became the most stylish and organized day and traveling bag of my entire life! Very utilitarian and rugged structure and materials with an understated minimalist look that is very distinct. I was so knocked out that I immediately bought my husband the Tumi Monterey Sling for an upcoming holiday in Boston. Not matchy-matchy, but we do look like a couple who shares a certain sophisticated aesthetic;) Best price here on Amazon even compared to the Tumi outlet. I'm shopping for a Tumi wallet now.

Overall I love the bag. I don't clutter it with much and it has enough compartments/pockets inside for my needs. Material is strong and should give a lot of wear. Shoulder strap is strong and can adjust to whatever length you need. My only concern is that the main flap closes to the bag with magnets which can be lifted easily. There should be some kind of stronger closure piece. My solution is to wear the bag over my shoulder with the flap against my body. On another plus side, there is a fairly large zippered compartment under the flap which keeps any money/valuables safe. I would definitely recommend the bag.

I bought the mini messenger bag with a particular interest in carrying around my IPad. The product fits the bill and more. The size is perfect for the IPad and has sufficient pouches and compartments to hold a variety of other items. The flap over the main storage compartment is held fast with magnets, which allows quick and easy access without the worry of contents falling out inadvertently. There are many internal compartments that zip, allowing one to organize and avoid the "tote sack" phenomenon. The fit and finish are outstanding. I highly recommend the bag.
