I had $200 worth of electronic connected to this device. didn't exceed 11.5 volts on the input and only used .1 amp on the output. device failed and let the 11.5 volts into the 5 volts. If this fails, it should fail in the OFF position instead of dumping high voltage into lower voltage. COME ON!!!

I bought two of these so I could mount and direct wire two 5v dash cams so the wires stayed out of sight in the overhead consoles of my Pickup and my wife's Yukon. By direct wiring I don't have to deal with a cord hanging down from the top of the windshield (the ideal mounting location for the dash cams) and plugged into the accessory outlet. I was able to connect the 12v input side to a circuit that was on/off along with the ignition and wired the output 5v side to the power input plug on the cam. Fairly easy installation and the Converters work just as advertised. According to my multimeter the output voltage was spot on so no worries about frying my cams. Great value for the payback. Glad I bought them.

This works great. I use it to step down the 12V to 5V for wireless qi wireless charging my Note4 phone when driving.

There is a cubby hole in my 4Runner in the center of the dashboard that fits my phone perfectly. I took apart a multi-coil qi wireless charger and hot glued it under the cubby hole. I used this part to step down the voltage to a USB cable that plugs into the charger.

I then carefully dremelled out a square hole on the edge of the cubby to match where the original qi charger casing status LED was so I have a light showing when the phone is getting charged.

I drop my phone in the cubby and the phone starts charging. There is a light to show it as well as the phone confirming it. It looks like it is original to the vehicle.

I went through 3 alternators (warraniedy) before I found out they were frying due to 12V on the reference terminal- newer alternators require this 5v reference to kick in the internal voltage regulator, hence the need for this little guy.

Wired this in behind the dash and installed a USB port for charging my devices. Works beautifully!

Hooked the 12v input to the same wires feeding the 12v power outlet (cigarette lighter), wired the output into a panel-mount USB port (search for one here on Amazon), and viola! A USB charger for all your devices. Has enough juice for iPads and other power hungry tablets too!

Additional notes:
When wiring the USB port, Pin 1 is +5v and Pin 4 is ground. Short the middle two pins together to tell your device that it is connected to a high-power charger, or it will just trickle.
