The antenna came pretty quickly. Most of the setup is straight-forward as ...
I purchased this antenna to receive the local channels after deciding to finally get rid of cable. I live within Richmond, VA city limits and bought the 35-mile version just in case i ended up moving further away from the city in the future. Currently, I live on the fourth floor of a seven story apartment building. The antenna came pretty quickly. Most of the setup is straight-forward as the antenna and cable are one piece. The antenna is pretty flimsy and is made to be attached to the wall or laid out on a surface. You simply need to screw in the coax cable into the back of the TV and run a channel scan. Most HDTV's will have a built in digital tuner. The hardest part of the setup was figuring out where and how to position the antenna. The placement of the antenna can affect the signal dramatically. I tried four placements: (1) on the wall behind the TV, (2) laid flat below the living room window, (3) on the right upper corner of the wall near the window, (4) on the left upper corner of the wall near the window. I found the second option to be the best even though many people recommended to place the antenna higher up to improve performance. I also noticed orientation can make a difference. I rotated the antenna by 90 degrees and noticed an improvement in signal. The final antenna position is shown in the photo. When trying to figure out the placement, it is important that you re-scan for channels for each antenna position in case you missed some channels in the previous setup. Hopefully, you will only notice a difference in signal strength and not in the number of channels you pick up. I notice that I was able to "pick up" may one additional channel in a different position but usually the signal was too weak for the channel to display properly (this was ok as the station that was trying to be picked up was a DC station). After scanning for channels, I picked up 19 channels including 7 HD channels. Of these channels, 17 have strong enough signals to display properly. The HD channels do come in pretty clear once i figured out the antenna placement. The signal for 6 of the 7 HD channels are fairly strong. My TV displays signal strengths for the individual channels and I get an average of 80% for the 6 HD channels.Overall, I bought the antenna to watch HD broadcasts from the local stations (ABC, CBS, etc.) and this antenna did a great job of picking up the stations. The setup was easy with the hardest part being antenna placement. As I live in the city, the 25 mile version probably would have been sufficient. I would recommend this antenna to others that live a reasonable distance to a major city.

DISH TV lies about how many channels of TV you can select to record. Every time I've gotten rid of Comcast, they've insisted that I hadn't returned their equipment, and the last time, they charged me to send a replacement their cable box died after just six weeks. And I like DirecTV, but my new digs are on the north side of an apartment house, and they won't let me have a dish on the roof.

So I tried to get along with just Amazon Prime Video, but getting local news from websites is a drag. When you're tired, you don't want to sit at a desk and keep clicking, or even sit back and keep clicking. It's nice to tune into a channel, and just let it wash over you.

So I got a new HDTV and this antenna. I was sdaying with my sister when they arrived, and tried it out there. It's about 454 miles to the nearest ABC/CBS/ABC stations, and I didn't expect much. When I was growing up, we needed an antenna high on a 35'mast to get those three stations - but on the ground floor, with this antenna about 6 feet off the ground, I not only got great pictures from those three stations, but from PBS stations iun two cities, the FOX station, a low power TV station about 20 miles away, and a religious station from (irony intended) heaven knows where.

Not only that, but there were sub-channels on those stations, giving me about 20 channels, instead of the 3-5 I expected. At my new apartment, the ABC/CBS/NBC signals are 1080p, the FOX was 760p, and subchannels are 480i. The CBS and ABC each have a weather radar channel, with CBS having Antenna TV (think TVland), ABC having CW, and FOX having Bounce (which is supposed to be Blacxk programming, but it's more like Spike). The PBS statrion has subchannels of PBSkids, Create (cookig, gardeninfg, crafting shows, etc) and PBS4U (a general interest station that sometimes mirrors the primary channel). The one religious channel has five 480i signals, and the other has a single NSTC signal. That tells me that the NBC station can still add a 480i channel, and the FOX station at least two, so I might get further improvements in the future.

And of all these subchannels, DirecTV only carries CW, meaning you really ought to have an antenna like this, EVEN IF YOU INTEND TO KEEP your satellite/cable provider. I've only had this antenna two weeks, and I'm already money ahead, compared to what I was paying before.

Those are all reasons for buying AN antenna. THIS antenna? I can't say how it compares to others, but the name says it all: it provides the BASICS and it does that very well. I cannot imagine what more I could get from a more expensive antenna, nor can I say it outperforms the cheaper Amazon Basics antenna. I would like to fasten this antenna to the wall with a couple of push pins, but I don't know where I can safely run a pin through it, so I've taped it up with painters tape. I*t's so lightweight, the tape for delicate surfaces is quite adequate, and I'm sure my landlord will have no reason to complain about that.

I miss seeing Dan Patrick on DirecTV's "Audience" channel, and "Larry's Country Diner" on RFDTV, but Dan Patrick is on the radio, and $100/year for Prime Instant Video is a lot more appealing than paying $90/month for DirecTV. I'm thinking about getting a big TV and an antenna for the living room once I've bought some nice furniture for entertaining, but maybe not; I'm using my Fire HD a lot, and it travels around to the kitchen, the bathroom, etc., with me, so I may not bother with another TV.

But if I do, there's no question but I'll buy another antenna identical to this one. All those channels and perfect reception for such a low price? This is a wonderful deal! .

Update - 5/13/16 - This is by far one of the best purchases I've made on Amazon. It has been 8-9 months since I got rid of my cable and I haven't looked back since. I love being able to watch the news and football games for FREE with this device. I've only had to move it around to adjust the picture 4-5 times in that time 8-9 month time period and it's worked perfectly each time. I love that it's HD as well and again, I'm not paying a thing for this. I will say that we did try it a little farther out from the city and while we did get a few channels, we did not get the same selection I had closer to the city. Definitely take a look online at which channels you can and cannot get in your viewing area before ordering one of these to make sure you get the correct mileage one for your home.

I'm so happy with this purchase! I recently joined the no cable movement and was excited to not have a cable bill but disappointed I wasn't going to be able to watch the news everyday. I only purchased this because I was looking for ways to watch Football on Sundays and buying an antenna was suggested by many people. I began researching antennas on Amazon and this one came up with fantastic reviews. It works so well in my home and I get approximately 50 or so local channels including all the major broadcasting networks giving me the ability to watch both the news and Sunday football. I have had to move it around every so often to get channels to come in a little better, but once you find a spot for a certain channel, the HD quality is just as good as if I have cable. If you live in an area pretty close to a major metropolitan city, you should have no problem getting a signal. My antenna usually sits behind my TV and all my channels are still coming in HD and perfectly clear. If you've made the switch to no cable, but still want local channels, I highly recommend purchasing one of these.

It's 4 stars for the 35 mile antenna, and 2 stars for Amazon basics - averaged out to 3.
The antenna does work well - better than my previous, generic, 25 mile (?) HD antenna - once I figured out where and how to hang it.
The TV station website in another review showed me that a couple stations aren't perpendicular to my walls, and the problem I had with my last antenna is that I couldn't 'hang' it in any way that would get all the stations clearly. So I had to make a way to hang it on the wall w/o it being parallel to the wall - I used cardboard from a cereal box, taped to the back w/ masking tape.
But only four stars because mine didn't come with any manual, instructions or mounting tape. Also because the connector for the cable is so thick that even if you can mount it 'flat' against the wall, the cable is held away from the wall. It's also hard to find a good spot for it because it's to floppy to stand on it's own (I used 2 boxes like bookends to try different spots and angles).
I am REALLY NOT happy with Amazon Basics... EVERY other amazon order has a 'contact seller' link. I could not find ANY way to contact them (other than to request a return). I even searched Amazon help. I will never buy anything technical from Amazon basics because of that.

5.0 out of 5 stars cheap and works well

Works amazingly well here in Toronto. I installed it in my dad's 5th floor apartment taped to his window in the High Park area facing west (wrong direction from the CN tower) Can pick up 23 channels, all the Canadian ones plus PBS, CBS, Fox, CW channels from Buffalo. At home, I have a 8 bay antenna mounted on a mast on my roof with amplifier, I can only pull in 3 more channels: myTV, NBC and ABC.

5.0 out of 5 stars North Edmonton, got all the local channels
Reviewed in Canada on August 29, 2018
Having just moved into North Edmonton, I wanted to get the local channels, so I ordered up a digital antenna, knowing that it's Canadian law that the local networks have to broadcast over the air for free. Once I had it, setup was easy as can be, plug into the coaxial port on the TV, and hang from the wall in a high spot with the included adhesive strips. I had to move it around a bit to get all the channels available, but it took a whole 5 minutes.
PROTIP: In the end, I found that mounting it higher made more of a difference than moving to a different spot. When I found the right place, it was exactly where I initially put it, but about a foot higher than before. I had been missing 2 channels, and a third was not clear, but after putting it higher on the wall, everything was fine. So, when mounting your antenna, put it as HIGH AS YOU CAN!

I bought this antenna for my TV upstairs in the bedroom. Its performance is well enough, but often I feel the necessity for an amplifier to boost the input signal to the TV. The best decision would perhaps be buying Amazon's another model of the same antenna, same name, with an amplifier.
I queried Amazon for the possibility of buying the amplifer separately, paying the balance amount, but the response was negative. So I have placed order for an RCA stand-alone amplifier.
However, comparing the performance and price, this antenna seems to be the top-one in its class. The similar one from another company with my TV downstairs is much more expensive, but qualitywise not that high.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was surprised how easy the set up was
Reviewed in Canada on September 4, 2018
I live in North York 5th floor condo, facing south, I was surprised how easy the set up was, the TV detected the Antenna, scanned for a few minutes, then i got 12 channels, two are French, and one is the Omni Asian speaking channel. We have Netflix, Plex and a few other online streaming services, but I wanted just one station that had SPORTS, and I got one, in Buffalo lol. For the price easy set up, ease of use, and 12 OTA HD channels (9 really) its worth the price.
