This is a great kit for starters and even for guys that tie flies more than once a month. There is a lot of value in this kit, if you go to B-Pro and try to buy each individual item, you will easily pay 3 times as much. Some reviewers said some goofy things like not enough materials... well this is going to last me couple years as I don't tie flies very often, and I usually stick to nymph patterns and no dries. You will need a better pheasant tail material, but it works for me. A really great value for the money. There are better kits for some absurd money, but unless you are making a living from tying flies, I don't recommend spending that kind of money.

I got this for my husband (an avid fly fishing guide) and he immediately asked where I got it and told me to write a review. He has spent SO much on buying tying materials at bass pro/ cabelas for ACTUAL junk. The quality of everything in this kit is better than anything he has got at a big store where he paid way more. Don’t listen to reviews of people saying the quality is lacking because they clearly didn’t know what they were looking for. As I’m typing this, he is messaging friends to tell them how great of a deal this is!
Also the personalized note introducing herself, the shop, and showing gratitude for the purchase, really topped it off to be one of the best purchases I’ve made on Amazon. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

Great starter kit to build up your fly tying materials base

This makes a great starter kit for the beginner fly tyer or for the seasoned tyer looking to build up a stockpile of commonly used materials. It has everything you need for the majority of streamers and nymphs (minus the bead heads), with a few materials that can be used for tying dry flies.
Pros: The marabou blood quills, goose biots, saddle hackle, and peacock herl are good quality, plus the added extra bits are icing on the cake. There is a lot of usable material included that would probably be double the cost if you purchased everything individually.
Cons: My only complaint is that the marabou blood quills come with an excessive amount of unusable "fluff." After I pruned through each of the colors and removed viable/usable pieces, I was probably left with about 1/3 less material for each marabou blood quill color type.
However, given the sheer amount of materials included and the majority of it being great quality, this bundle still more than holds its value.

I know five stars usually comes from excited newcomers but I have to tell you, if you try to figure out all the most common materials needed then buy them one at a time you will go crazy and broke in that order. I am tying again after forty years and basically except for my tools had to begin again from scratch. You don’t have to buy much to exceed forty dollars and I did just that before seeing this offer. I am more than pleased .I have been tying from u tube shows and most of the needed material is In this package in a adequate quantity. Tied over three hundred flies and still have much left. Of course I still buy other materials but this is a great package. I spent more on hooks and beads.

If you are like me and new to this whole process, you have watched the videos and read the blogs and talked to people trying to get information as to what to buy. Once you get past the "material snobs"it comes down to options.
This "kit" has plenty of them. I was amazed as to how much stuff was in the package and how well labeled it is. In this case it is well worth the cost. While perhaps it may not be the highest quality. I wouldn't know and at this point don't care all that much. It's plenty good enough to get started with. If you are looking for a gift for yourself or a "newbie" and want to save a lot of time and frustration, give it a try. You won't regret it.

I get out fly fishing about 80-100 times a year and go through a lot of flies. I'm also on a budget, so I can't afford to drop hundreds of dollars at fly shops. The amount of material that comes in this kit is pretty insane for the price. Staple materials for many nymphs and streamers, and supplementing this kit with a cape and some elk hair from a local fly shop will allow you to tie a very good variety of dries as well. With a little creativity with materials, you'll be able to stretch this kit even farther. While not the absolute highest quality materials, if you are only concerned about tying flies that fish well and catch fish, this is a perfect, low cost option. This likely saved me from dropping over 200 dollars buying individual materials online or at fly shops.

Customer service was top notch. USPS lost the package in the mail, and the seller fixed this issue by sending me a new package within a few hours of me contacting him. The package arrived in 2 business days during the middle of the pandemic. I will be buying this kit again, but it will probably be quite a while before I need to do so.

I'm a beginner fly tier so take that into account. My initial impression of the materials is that they are of decent, to high quality and there is more than enough and more than I even know what to do with right now. I'm using it to learn how to tie a few easy midge and nymph patterns until I get more experience. My first midge looked rough but I think that can be chalked up to my inexperience, not the materials. In addition to this you'll want to buy some copper wire, hooks, bead heads and thread but this pack will cover you for a while as far as dubbing, hackle, feathers and other such categories of tying materials I am still learning about. It was packaged well and labeled which is crucial for someone like me just starting off. I recommend.
