This is a landmark in film history. Unfortunately, the audio track sounds like an MST3K episode. It's distracting. It would be much better if they had left the movie with only the music being played, as 'silent' movies were originally shown.

When George M. made this "moving picture" back in 1903, would he have thought that it would still be around for people to view 110 years later? It is interesting to note the endurance of one's work beyond his own life.
As far as the action and special effects are concerned, I think they did a reasonably good job (this coming from an era of CGI). On a side note, I would have never found out about this film had it not been for Hugo.
My only question is how did the professor and moon-dweller get inside the E.A.P. on the return trip? One can only conjecture. However this aside, from the conception and opposition to the idea, to the welcoming home celebration and dedication, this is a true gem of a film, and one which all historically-inclined people (and everybody else, for that matter) should see.

My 8 year old son, who is very interested in old film, has watched this video several dozen times. Here is his review:

I first learned about this movie from Hugo. I am giving a trip to the moon a 5 out of 5 rating because I like the idea of going to the moon and the plot is going to the mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!! I also like umbrellas in space. I also like how the rocket blasts off! I also like the scene when the rocket crashes into the moon's eye. I also like the scene with the moon on fire! I also like the idea of snow on the moon. I also like what the aliens looked like. I also like the parade at the end. What I like best about the movie is how it has so many good elements in 12 minutes and also how it has been 114 years and people STILL like it.

Great short piece. Very entertaining. :)

It's really funny and kind of sad to see that even back when this was made man's first interaction with extraterrestrial beings ends up violently.

If the speaking was removed from this it would be 100 times better, purely the piano would have been better. The speaking kind of ruins it. :(
At least I could watch this one though, I started to watch the colour one and the audio for that was worse, though I'm not sure if there was speaking, didn't get far enough in.

Considering the age, it's amazing the edit, the theatrical scenes and the plot. It's also surprising to me to see that so long ago, professional people had so much irony. It's good because it doesn't last too long.

a remarkable film for the time and one of the earliest movies to tell a story. The movie is charmingly theatrical.

Normally a 5-star movie, but...What a disgrace to Film this edition is.
An insult to Georges Méliès. The music is passable, since it was made for theaters to play music along the film, but watching it makes me mad that this has awful vocal characterizations by middle school would-be actors from a script written by a 3rd grader.
The talking throughout one of the most important films in history is to make it a mockery of the film. This copy should be destroyed and a proper copy replace it a.s.a.p. For shame Amazon for presenting this.

Great piece of movie and sci-fi history. Turn the sound off. The audio is horrible! I wish it only had period correct music. There is no need to have added a talking soundtrack. I cannot take away stars for this because it is such an important and creative piece of film and it can be corrected by hitting the mute button.
