What an amazing difference. This Nighthawk has much improved signal strength and data rates over the Belkin unit,. This router is well worth the price delta. I've had between 30 and 45 minutes in firmware update and setup and I'm not an IT type. The Genie worked welll and delivered Internet connectivity quickly. Where I had a requirement for an Extender previously with the Belkin (and prior to that a linksys WRT300n), that appears less of a necessity now. I reside in a 100 year old brick and mortar home, a massive natural stone chimney stands between the 2nd floor router and 1st floor living room. Wireless connectivity was all but impossible without an Extender until now and wow. The Belkin download was 9Mbps, upload 4Mbps and it's ping was 22msec; the Nighthawk download 22Mbps, upload 8Mbps and ping 15 sec, that is wireless N and through the hardwired Extender with Belkin vs Nighthawk through the chimney (From no Extender or cable for help) and to the same server tested with Ookla SpeedTest. Signal strength for 2.4GHz, Belkin - 70dBm, Nighthawk -40 dBm. On the 5GHz side, Belkin -70 dBm, Nighthawk -60 dBm. Signal strength is much improved with the Nighthawk tested as with the app Wifi Analyzer. The aborted page loading I was experiencing with the Belkin equipment ha as disappeared. I can actually watch a YouTube video without constant "buffering" messages. If I have neglected to be clear to this point, the difference between the two routers is most significant.
I still have things to work out. I will edit this after I settle in and refine settings. I still need to "talk" to our Oki C5500n printer. If this Netgear unit stays stable, I'm a very happy consumer (that somehow sounds inadequate).
Edit, the morning after:
Things are still as they were yesterday evening. I also realized a list of connected devices could be helpful. ISP is Comcast (ouch, I would change this If I could), There is 1 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 Blu-Ray, 1 DirecTV, 1 network printer, 2 Android Smartphones, 3 Android tablets and 2 'smart switches'. The Android devices and laptop connect via Wifi, the remainder via LAN.
Net diagram:
2nd floor: ISP-> Modem - > router - > 10 port Netgear switch - > PC, printer, Synology NAS -> LAN Cat 5e, length 50 ' to 1st floor
1st floor: 5 port NetGear switch - > Blu-Ray, DirecTV. The Belkin Extender was here, it is no longer necessary.
Note: all LAN cables are Cat 5e, either 1 or 2 meter except the run to the 1st floor.
I will update this as the story continues.
Edit 3/8:
The issue I was experiencing with printing wound up being a windows (Win 7 home Premium, 64 bit) driver problemm - and me messing up the IP addressing in my printer. A quick and simple fix, funny thing about aging, the conceit of youth becomes much less important. Monday I will address the remaining network issue - reconfiguring my Synology NAS. Signal strength and network stability are still great - actually amazing. I only wish this was the router I started with. I expect Monday to be a long day. I will make a final edit later in the week. If everything continues similarly, there will bea glowing edit to finalize this review (provided my fingers actually do what I think they are doing..) :-)
NetGear has done well.
NOTE WELL: The firmware update is very important as it addresses the reported negative issues discussed by some purchasers. The router performed the setup AND suggested the firmware update. It requires you to confirm the update by clicking on the appropriate flags. It takes maybe 2 minutes to do.

This router is still flying along, to the point of I almost feel guilty that I don't have to fuss over my home network. To be perfectly clear,
this is the router I should have started with! I highly recommend this unit. You get what you pay for and this was SO worth the investment. Thank you NetGear!

PERFECT - Simple & EASY to set up!!! :-)
This wifi router is PERFECT - works like a charm - exactly how it should in a 1 bedroom apartment in a high rise building - for my laptop, phone and iPad. And it is soooooo EASY to set up - you can start using wifi ASAP.The device is brand new with protective sticky plastic covering it - no scratches, no signs of any damage or wear or tear - no prior usage. I appreciate that they're NOT trying to sell refurbished products as "new" ones because the quality of products from some other companies has gone down hill.EASY SET UP:1.) Remove 3 protective caps from the spots where the antennas should go.2.) Screw in the 3 antennas.3.) Plug in the power cord.4.) Plug ethernet cord into wall and router..5.) It takes 1-2 minutes for all the lights to go on.6.) Grab your phone/laptop, go to your wifi settings, select your router name, and type in the password that's provided on the bottom of the router.That's it!!!I didn't have to call my ISP/Internet Service Provider (Google Webpass) to register the router or anything. Maybe all routers are this easy and seemless?All I know is I had ZERO PROBLEMS and I'm SO GRATEFUL LOL. I hate technology issues. When I found out I needed a new router, I was dreading finding a new one - I read all the reviews for like 30 of them and asked my male techy friends what they recommended - took me half a day to research everything.I got confused because I didn't know if I needed a router AND a modem. Finally decided to get this one because my other Netgear Nighthawk router lasted 5 years - I didn't need any other hardware. It must be a router and modem in 1. Also I read somewhere that ALL routers need to be replaced every 3-5 years. I'm hoping this one lasts another 5.Anyway I highly recommend this one!!! I don't see the point in paying double the price for another brand that will need to be replaced within the same time span. And I didn't want to buy 2 devices (router + modem).Hope this helps others who aren't technical and don't want any headaches :-)
