Program is buggy and makes my toddler very upset
Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2023
My toddler is trying to help Daniel get dressed in the morning and keeps getting this error message when touching the screen. I personally watched him and it looks like when Daniel chooses clothes in the area where the "make believe" button is supposed to be the game crashes. I can't ask for my money back through Amazon or else I would - my toddler is getting very angry seeing this message.
There's a whole lot to keep my 2yo entertained here that he can work on his own. Brushing teeth, washing hands, reading and singing, doing routines, and even painting Daniel's PJ's. The only thing I don't like is that the breakfast time part of the game doesn't work. It doesn't let you set the table (which I believe it's set up to do. Looks like it, anyway. Don't know because it's never worked). Which, because of my toddlers deep love of spoons, causes incredible Hulk-like outbursts of rage because he can't move the spoons around in the game. The songs and noise with it don't drive ME insane either. Which is a bonus. (I'm a big DT fan myself though)
I have two boys under 5 who have both had speech delay issues. Daniel Tiger - both the show on PBS and these apps - have made a tremendous difference in our every day lives and I can't recommend them highly enough. The idea is simple: everybody from the old neighborhood of make believe on Mr Rogers grew up and had kids of their own. So Daniel Striped Tiger had Daniel Tiger, X the owl is raising his nephew O, Henrietta Kitty Kat had Katerina, etc. It's animated rather than live action but I swear I hear a hint of Fred Roger's voice. So the new generation is all in preschool and face the same issues as our kids do - learning how to do a bedtime routine, how to cope when angry, how to share and so on. For each situation a little jingle is sung as they figure it out. Parents: memorize those jingles. Seriously. This particular app deals with morning and night routines. So we sing: Bathtime, brush teeth, Pjs, story and song and off to bed. Or: clothes on, eat breakfast, brush teeth, put on shoes and off to school. Now the kids get a ton more to do in the app, like help set the table or put Daniel to bed, etc. But the key is those songs. They LIKE them. They REMEMBER them. One of my boys barely speaks yet, but he can sing (sort of) those songs. And more importantly, if I sing them he knows what we are doing and what to do next. No more trying to explain what a potty is, what a toothbrush does, he's got it already. And he WANTS to do it, because that's what Daniel does. I've got my older child asking me for help to take a deep breath and count to four when he's in a meltdown (from the tv series). Daniel Tiger: toddler whisperer. Inspired.
My kids both loved this game on their old tablets. Now with their new tablets the game is zoomed too far in and only half the mini games are available - they simply can not scroll to the other games that are off screen. There seems to be no way to adjust this. Too bad, otherwise a great game if only it could be fully played.
This app was a FREEbie so I took the chance and it was a good decision. Although this APP is probably designed for Preschoolers to perhaps Pre-K to do independently, I found it a great way to interact with my 14 month old grandson. Daniel must get ready to start his day. Simple verbal cues to touch items or do actions bring your child along as Daniel heads off to school. My grandson doesn't have all the coordination to play along quite yet, but he loves to listen and watch as we help Daniel wake up, eat breakfast ( which we prepare), brush his teeth and get dressed. My grandson knows to touch the screen to zip Daniels sweater, move the toothbrush and make Daniel jump in his colorful sneakers. And when it's time to go to bed, we have fun soaping Daniel's head at bathtime and reading a bedtime story. All I have to say to my grandson is, " Want to play Daniel?" and his face lights up waiting to touch the bright sun ( or moon) on the screen and begin his adventures with Daniel. This is a grow with your child APP. I can see my grandson eventually playing independently and enjoying it even more. Graphics, color, audio and intuitive play are great. It's just like the show itself. (Played on Kindle Fire HDX 8.9).
My 3-year-old and 4-year-old love this game. They can open it and start playing without any help at all. It is super simple and easy for kids to navigate the game. They love putting berries and fruits on Daniel Tiger's pancake and watching their creation dance on the stage.
We can't view everything or scroll through all the options. The proportions are off and are too big. I'll change the review once it's fixed. We are using an Amazon Fire Tablet purchased a couple years ago.
My 2 1/2 year old loves the old Mr. Rogers episodes and may love the new Daniel Tigger spin off just as much. I admit I even get a kick out of this app myself there is so much to it. It is good for explaining morning and evening routines to preschoolers. The app also allows for creativity and imagination which is rare today. It is true to the cartoon and the positive messages Fred Rogers spent a lifetime bringing to children. I'd highly recommend this to anyone with a preschooler.
I bought this game for my son when he was 3 and he loved it, especially the Trolley game, which could have been in the other Daniel the Tiger app but both apps were great for his age. Lots of interactive elements which kept him engaged. Each activities are different so kids don't get bored doing the same steps over and and over again.
This and the feelings ones are our favourites so far, the other apps are average, son almost 3 really enjoys the routines, is absolutely obsessed with pancakes haha, and enjoys brushing his teeth, thanks guys!!
I usually don't pay for apps but I'm glad I did. This is a great game for toddlers/children. Very like the show with the same characters and songs. I would highly recommend. Hope this helps...
