Needs grip on base otherwise suprisingly stable.
The base is lacking footing on the painted metal and requires some kind of rubberized grip. I used small lines of 'Gorilla clear grip contact adhesive' on the feet of the base and this worked great. The stand without the ring and arm comes in 3 pieces. The base and two screw together poles. Requires good grip and force to firmly screw together as well as screwing to the base but once together and the glue has cured the assembly is quite stable. The ring is level and evenly made, and the clamp on the arm is cushoned with cork and holds as firm as you need it to hold. A good addition to my home mycology lab.

Although a Festivus pole is traditionally aluminum, I find the very high strength to weight ratio of this pole to be more than adequate. I chose not to install the clamps as I find tinsel distracting.

My father has esophagus cancer and had to end up getting a feeding tube. He has done nothing but complain that it takes too long to do feedings via the feeding tube and does only 2 feedings a day (2 together twice a day) because heaven forbid he might miss out on smoking a cigarette or watching a game on tv. Was hoping that if I bought this, he would do the recommended amount (5) and do one about every 2 hours which would be a lot better for him and possibly give him a tad bit of energy. Figured this way he could still watch tv and smoke his damn cigarettes and stop bitching that it takes too long to use the feeding tube. Well, he said it works great but he still just does his 2 feedings a day because he refuses to do anything that will actually help him. Bought this so he could bring it with him out to the living room and even outside on the patio, but he still only does the feedings in the kitchen so he still won't do anymore feedings which would help him out immensely.

Bottom line, great for those with feeding tubes as long as they are not too damn stubborn.
