Sofia is a 17 year old who is quite content with her life. She has a caring boyfriend who also just happens to be her best friend since birth. She has a loving mother. She is successfully completing her last year of high school and enjoys her part-time job. She can’t imagine wanting more from her life…until Ar’ch (pronounced Ar-rick) enters her dreams, sparking a burning flame inside of her that she can’t seem to extinguish nor does she want to.
Ar’ch is a Diasodz (Die-ah-sodz), a species created by the Goddess back when God created humans. Diasodz were made to heal and protect humans, but when the Diasodz turned their backs on helping humans and left Earth to live in their own world, the Goddess abandoned them. Since then, their powers and their very lives have been fading. A prophecy foretold that a young girl born on Earth would be the Diasodz’s savior. Ar’ch and his brother, Angel, travel to Earth to retrieve her and bring her back to their world before her death day in order to save their kind. Ar’ch knows the drill: find the target, capture her, and safely bring her home. But what happens when the target captures his dormant heart?
Choices create action. Actions have consequences. When faced with the truth, what choice will Sofia make? Will she be able to accept the consequences that follow?

About the author

Yvette M. Calleiro is the author of the Chronicles of the Diasodz fantasy series, HYPE, and two short stories. As a heavily addicted reader of both young adult and adult novels, she spends most of her time pseudo-living in paranormal worlds with her fictional friends (and boyfriends).
When she’s living among real people, she is a middle school Reading and Language Arts teacher. She’s been sharing her love of literature with her students for over twenty years. Besides writing about the various characters that whisper (and sometimes scream) in her head, she enjoys traveling, watching movies, spending quality time with family and friends, and enjoying the beauty of the ocean.
Yvette lives in Miami, Florida, with her incredible son who has embraced her love for paranormal and adventurous stories. She also shares her space with an assortment of crazy saltwater animals in her 300-gallon tank.

This is an interesting sci-fi YA novel with the unusual premise of a superior race of human-looking people called Diasodz, who have a variety of different powers such as an ability to heal, and who live in a different dimension to humans. I liked the idea of a different dimension rather than a different planet and I also enjoyed the parallels between life in their dimension and life in the human dimension such as their serving of a goddess.
Sophia is an ordinary, if pretty, teenage girl who is growing up in a single parent family. Her mother works very hard to support them both and give Sophia a good life. Sophia is an excellent student and is working hard towards gaining acceptance into a college of her choice. Sophia has a boyfriend, Rafe, who has been her best friend since birth and who is the son of her mother's good friend, Damiana.
The story starts with Sophia have a very life-like dream which features a gorgeous man. Before she can find out who he is she wakes up. A short while later, Sophia meets this same man at the café where she works as a waitress. At the same time, Angel, a new-comer to her high school, comes into her life and befriends both Rafe and herself.
It soon turns out that Angel is the younger brother of the gorgeous man named Ar'ch. As Sophia gets to know them both better, all sorts of unusual and strange events start to happen in Sophia's previously peaceful life. In addition, Sophia develops a strong attraction for Ar'ch which puts her in a complicated situation with Rafe, who is theoretically her boyfriend but with whom she has a platonic relationship.
Sophia was a lovely character and very typical of an overly sheltered teenage girl. Her reactions to Ar'ch and the attraction she feels for him were perfect for a YA novel. I enjoyed Sophia's loyalty to both her mother and Rafe and also her hard working tendencies which send a good message about the path to achievement to young readers.
Ar'ch was an interesting character. A play boy who has always had lots of female attention, he falls hard for Sophia. He tries to resist his attraction to her as she is part of his "mission" to earth and he is trying to be professional. Some of his behaviour seemed a bit unlikely for a man of his experience and age, but he was still enjoyable and I enjoyed hearing about him.
The ending as it related to Rafe was unexpected to me as I expected more to come in respect of this particular character. His reactions and behaviours were a bit unusual for a young man of his age and I thought this might lead to a bigger role for his in the future books. I have yet to see if that will be the case or not.
The story moved quite slowly for the first half of the book and there was a strong focus on the potential romance between Sophia and Ar'ch but the pace picked up hugely during the second half of the book and there was a lot of excitement and the introduction of new evil characters which made it highly entertaining.
This book will appeal to readers who enjoy sci-fi with a strong romantic element.
Her world is rocked when her dreams meld with reality to convince her that she has power that she never realized and a responsibility to fulfill her destiny. In order to achieve success, however, she must leave the life she knows, including Rafe. What is real and what is imagined?
The nicely developed characters are typical teenaged personalities and the good vs. evil plot in this YA fantasy will keep your attention. The story moves a bit slowly at times, but overall is an enjoyable read.
Ar'ch (pronounced R-rick) overwhelms her by sharing how special she is, a savior of a parallel universe. Angel, Ar'ch's brother, also attends Sofia's school. Sofia's boyfriend Rafe, is in the dark about the young man Ar'ch being in her dream. When Rafe and Ar'ch become friends, the situation is a bit more complicated. Ar'ch and Angel are both making the argument for Sofia to join them in the parallel universe. Their claims are not only convincing but very seductive for this young woman.
A critical aspect for me, highlighted early on is Sofia's relationship with her mother. Early exchanges suggested her mother knows more than she is revealing to Sofia.
"How was your day, sweetheart?" her mom asked from the doorway.
"Same old thing, different day. I fell asleep at the willow, so I'm running late."
She hesitated in sharing her dream with her mom. Usually, she told her everything. As a young child, her mom ingrained in her that family did not keep secrets from each other. Lately, however, her mom had seemed a little distant, almost as if her mind was over-occupied. Even now, standing in the doorway, she looked exhausted.
Sofia increasingly felt as if her mother was keeping secrets. On several occasions, she almost asked her, but she feared her mom would say she was sick with cancer or something equally as horrible. She couldn't handle that kind of news, so she stayed quiet. She figured no news was good news."
The dynamics between the characters keeps the reader engaged. The multiple twists and turns will captivate young adults, keeping them engaged. The suspense aspects helped accentuate questions unresolved until the end, such as: How would she get to this parallel universe? Is Sofia the Savior? What would happen to Rafe? What is her mother's role in the parallel worlds?
This tale is a delectable mixture of good versus evil, jealously, mystery, trust, love, and magic that will hit on all cylinders with young adults. I found this a delightful, well-crafted fantasy trip to somewhere that may be more than dreams. I recommend this book, and I look forward to reading the rest in the series.

Sofia is a seventeen year old in her final year of school. Up until this point, her life has been normal. Then she meets a mysterious, and good looking, guy in her dreams. It turns out her life isn't what she thought it had been, and she has been living a lie all these years.
This book has all the ingredients to make it great: storyline, magic, mystery, romance, drama, etc. Unfortunately, the execution is wanting. The writing is repetitive, and lacks spark. The different points of view all feel as though they are the same voice for the most part. The author has massive potential, but needs to invest in an editor. I desperately wanted to enjoy this book, but found myself bored by 18% of the way in, and it became a chore to read on for much of the rest of the novel. Such a shame. I love YA. I love Fantasy. I love anything with paranormal/magical elements. Yet, somehow, I just could not love this book.
I offer three out of five stars for The One Discovered, and could see myself upgrading this to four or five with the right kind of editing. I feel that author Yvette M. Calleiro is one to watch in the future, even if this first book in the series could use a thorough revision. There were some instances in the narrative that were unique, and it is obvious there is a great imagination at work here. With the correct technical help, this author could be fantastic.

The story is full of fantasy and suspense with a cliff-hanger ending that makes me desperate to read the next book!
I enjoyed all the central characters and for a debut novel I think the author has done a brilliant job. Would make a great film!
