Peplink Balance One - exceeds all expectations
I spent days reading reviews, trying to decide between different products from ASUS, TP-Link, Cisco, and Peplink. I ended up going with the Balance One router, and am incredibly happy with my purchase. I work from home and cannot afford to have WebEx or Skype communications with clients be interrupted by internet outages. Changing over connections manually is better than nothing, but those are costly seconds when you've got a client on the line. I needed something faster & better.I've got the Balance One hooked into my cable internet connection (Brighthouse) on the WAN1 port, and my Samsung Pro (SM-V100T) T-Mobile hotspot on the USB (this model is not offically supported by Peplink, but it works fine. I just needed to change the hotspot's USB mode from "media device" to "USB Tethering", and it detected fine when I plugged it in). If I hard-disconnect the cable modem and the Ethernet link drops, the router will fail over to the hotspot in around a second. If I soft-disconnect the cable modem (unplug the coaxial cable, but leave the Ethernet connected), the router takes around 5 seconds to notice and re-route my traffic. This is with the default settings. It's possible to adjust these and I may consider that in the future - but 5 seconds is much quicker than the time required to manually change the connection. The 802.11 "Wifi" 2.4Ghz range is not as good as my previous Asus RT-N16 router, but given that this unit has internal antennas I'm honestly surprised the performance is as good as it is. Areas I used to get -50 dBm are now around -60 dBm which is a significant decrease but still very good. The coverage is adequate for my entire house, despite me having the Balance One on a metal shelf in a closet.Edit 4/16/2015I got my DSL installed yesterday. Failover works exactly as well as before, but the "load balancing" works much better than expected. I frankly didn't think this was possible (especially since my connections are through different ISPs), but somehow it's aggregating the speed from both connections - with a 85 mbps cable connection and a 15mbps DSL connection I'm getting 100mbps when I run speed tests, or when I download large files. I figured I'd have 100mbps of throughput, but only for simultaneous connections (download 1 file at 85mbps and download another at 15mbps at the same time) - I am extremely pleasantly surprised the Balance One can do this!

Our router was going out. The WAN connection appeared to be dropping at an increasing rate. After studying the logs I found that it happens when the network is under load. After some calls with the ISP who insisted that their modem was up and running. I concluded it was time for a new network router. I installed these at various of my clients and love these Peplink routers for their super easy user interface and rock solid performance.
Still I balked at the price for our own home network, researched the usual consumer grade routers by Asus, Linksys. These things look like stealth bombers and have an endles spec sheet with options no one needs. Knowing that these consumer routers on average start to fail after abour 3 years and the time it would take me to do a proper setup I spend the extra $100 and bought what I recommend my clients. A peplink Balance (I bought the core since we already have Ubiquity Unifi WiFi AP's). Glad I did, installation was quick and easy including VPN service so we can use public wifi while traveling and are still protected by our own encrypted tunnel to our home network.
Connected a At&T LTE modem via USB and set it up as a back-up ISP.
Improvement was instantanious. Browsing the web is much more responsive. I don't care that much about the speed test results (witch are above spec). What really matters is the quick response when clicking links in the internet. Pages now load in a blink of an eye.
Sure enough after 24 hours I checked the router log and did not find a single dropped WAN connection from my cable ISP.

When I received the Balance One Core router to replace my older Peplink Balance 315, It was to improve my thru-put speed. The Balance 315 model (now discontinued I think) could only download at a max of about 45mbps on a channel supporting 90mbps. The Balance One was supposed to fix this. Unfortunately, the unit originally came with about Version 5.5 or about software and it was not workable at all when I put in all my Balance 315 parameters. Peplink support did come the rescue with version 8.0.0 firmware which did get the unit "up and running" on my application. Unfortunately, there was no version 8.0.0 software manual and it took many hours with tech support to get up and running. Ultimately, It demonstrated download speeds of up to 130mbps which is fine for me. I am running on it now, but some features are still not operating properly. The most glaring example is that the unit does not show most of the fixed IP address devices below your fixed vs DHCP address cutoff. This can deceive you into thinking that a device is offline when it is not. I have been using Peplink routers exclusively since about 2006. Hardware reliability has been excellent. But the new Core One unit needs some expert software debugging.

I have ordered the Cisco RV260 as a replacement. Hopefully it is properly debugged.

I've been a Peplink customer for several years, initially starting with a Peplink Balance 20. I wanted a good VPN router, to allow me manage my network from anywhere, while providing good firewall throughput, stability and protection. I am an IT professional with over 30 years of experience and well versed in Cisco and other major router manufacturers. After doing extensive research, I chose the Peplink Balance 20. Sitting behind my Comcast router, the Peplink gave me everything I wanted, and more. The few times I needed tech support, they were very responsive. They listen to their customers, and routinely incorporate user-requested feature enhancements. The Balance 20 served me well for years, but recently my ISP (Comcast) increased my internet speed above the 150mbps limit of the Balance 20. So based my great experience with the Balance 20, I upgraded to the Balance One Core. The Balance One Core gives me the same interface as the Balance 20, the same features and stability, but with faster speeds (600mbps) and more Ethernet ports. I am extremely happy with the Balance One Core. Even with a large number of Firewall rules, I am getting full speed, with no degradation in performance. The VPN features are amazing and allow me to connect from anywhere. AND let us not forget the great Dual-WAN features! Having had 2 ISPs (Cable and a DSL backup), over the years my Peplink has flawlessly provided failover between WAN connections, whenever there was an outage, and we never noticed anything had changed. This is a quality product from a quality company that really cares about its customers. For security, performance, reliability and great feature sets, you can't do any better than Peplink.

After Linksys and Cisco had failed and broken, I tried to find something different. Balance by Peplink has been an excellent choice. I have a rather demanding setting between different operators and I do need some extra arrangements to secure WEB connection. This Balance one has managed to secure connection even when some of the operators have failed.
