This is a highly suspenseful political thriller with strong characters and an in-the-now plotline. The tension, as Vivi fights to protect her child against unknown deadly forces, is thick and taut. The story is engrossing and thrilling with real life or death situations that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ms. Anderson's characters are well developed and relatable. Vivi is both strong and vulnerable as the stress of the events she experiences brings her to realize that she wants more. More life, more love, more everything. Jed is the stalwart jaded hero who finds that doing what he should and doing what is right aren't necessarily the same things. Jed is the quintessential good guy in a white hat. Ms. Anderson, also, managed to make the bad guys sympathetic yet still deserving of their fate.
This is a sophisticated thriller that will keep you reading long past bedtime. Whether or not the thriller genre is your go-to, this should be added to your TBR list.
He then became the target of the terrorists.
The strong attraction between the red-head and FBI Agent provided the romance, but the motive for the entire debacle was completely lost to me. Syrians seemed to be behind the attacks, with seven terrorists of which one was female. She was used to sit next to one injured man with a Western name in a private room in a hospital, slipping a tablet under his tongue each time he began to wake up. On one occasion he recognised her and tried to call for help. She pinned his arms down with her knees, kneeling over him on the hospital bed, while opening a phial for a tablet, while his heartbeat raced frantically yet the nurses did not immediately respond to his urgent need. She did not like to kill people, but was blackmailed to do the dirty work of waiting for the President to visit the victims, then shoot him, because someone from her country had her children. This is where I lost the plot. Mossad had apparently killed all the victims to put the blame on Syria. The story made absolutely no sense to me. It was a thinly-veiled political slur aimed at Israel using the reader's sympathy for a poor single mother with her poor autistic son to gain sympathy for some unknown Eastern block innocent victims. I found it vague, unclear and offensive.
A week after Alex's and Mallory's story (Hanrahan retires), Jed's shopping for Christmas gifts in Minneapolis, on vacation from the BAU because he got too involved on his last case. Vivi and Michael are at the mall after a harrowing doctor visit and being interviewed for a human interest news story. Terrorists attack the mall, then hunt Michael in case he heard or saw something that will affect their future plans.
Sex: 1 scene, some detailed thoughts
Language: 55 F words, 60 Lord's name in vain, 41 S words
Violence: mall terrorism (shooting, bombs, knifings), drowning, more shooting scenes, hand-to-hand combat, murder, poison
Do I need to read books before this one: not needed
Would I read more of the series: yes, but not because of this book
Wow this is my second Toni Anderson listen . Loved this one as much as the first one . Toni writes a story full of suspense and mystery. It will have you hooked right till the end . This story has 3 heroes, a female the mother Vivi, her little boy and the FBI agent .
Vivi and her son , Michael who is an eight year old autistic child . And the FBI agent Jed.
Both mother and child were at the wrong place and wrong time. Michael might be a target for he might have witnessed a terrorist attack in a Minneapolis mall .
Jed was at the scene not that he saw anything, but he needs to find a way to save Michael and Vivi . Since Michael heard the Terrorist discuss their plans they are looking for him .
Toni writes the storyline like she actually was there right in front on the action.
Eric G. Dove performance saying the story was perfect. His voice is very addictive, strong and clear .

An 8-year-old mute boy’s life is in danger when he becomes traumatised by events he has witnessed.
I enjoyed this reading this book and it was good to hear the reasons why people choose to do what they do.
Loved the storyline as it twists and turns. Well told and a little humor thrown in.
I wanted to know what happened to Michaels dad though... May be in the next book?
