Even without having seen what it's based on, and just most of the little individual stories from childhood, many many ages ago... this game was a great play. I'm not a werewolf fan, so i had a hard time deciding to play this one, but its made by an excellent company that made another game that I enjoy. Game controls need to be done quick at times in the first episode, a bit too soon to really be used to them if your a first timer for the overall game system style of play that it uses. Once you get used to the controls its fun and adictive. Another A+ for telltalegames. The story is excellent and keeps you on your toes. Hot ladies, Moderate Mature-ish Content, enjoyable fight scenes, and much more. Has awesome graphics, pretty good playability and episode length. A sweet detective story! Definitely one of the top games on AFtv atm alongside of TWD games by the same company.
I've had "The Wolf Among Us" on my PC for awhile now, but I just bought a new Kindle Fire HDX and I really wanted to try out a new game on it. I had downloaded the first episode for free on my old Kindle Fire (first generation), but it didn't run that great. The characters would be blacked out in some scenes, but I could tell that it had a lot of potential. So, when my new Kindle came in the mail yesterday, I decided to try it out again. The first episode ran perfectly. I had no issues and I'll go so far as to say that it ran smoother on my tablet than it does on my PC. This game just lends itself to touch controls more than it does to a mouse and keyboard. The action/fight scenes are way smoother, everything looks sharp and bright. I'm very impressed with the appearance. It's made me rethink buying Telltale games for my PC. I may have to start purchasing them for my tablet instead (even if it means waiting that extra month).
The game looked so good that I ended up buying the Season Pass, which is a great deal at only $15. Normally, Telltale Season Passes cost around $25 for PC (unless the game has been out for awhile and there's a sale). I was very happy with the price. I've purchased "The Walking Dead Game", Seasons 1 & 2, for my PC, but I may have to buy another copy for the tablet because Telltale Games run so great on this device.
As for the game itself, it's great. I have no complaints about the execution, story, style, or mechanics of this game. If you've read the Fables comics by Bill Willingham, I think you'll be very pleased with seeing some of those characters come to life. If you haven't read the comics, then you will definitely want to read them when you finish the first episode of this game. That's how I got introduced to them. "The Wolf Among Us" and the Fable comics incorporate characters from European and American folklore/literature. The game's story is essentially a murder mystery that revolves around Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown and Snow White, the assistant to the Deputy Mayor. I don't want to give too much away. I'll just say this: if you love Western folklore and literature and you don't mind violence and gore (which all those stories are filled with anyways), then you love this game. It has a very film noir, 40's detective movie feel to it. I love the style and graphics in this game. It's very colorful and unique in appearance.
Be advised that this game is NOT for children. It is rated M for Mature. It contains violence, partial nudity, blood and gore, and swearing. I noticed some reviewers mistakenly thought this was a kid's game. The product description and details make it clear that it is not. It does use classic characters from Grimm's fairy tales, Hans Christian Anderson's stories, Mother Goose rhymes, and other fables/folklore/tall tales/literature. Many of these original stories are very violent and dark in nature and so is this game. While you may enjoy telling the stories of these characters to your kids and grandkids, this game is not something to share with them. As I said, it is very dark and adult content.
If you're not sure whether to buy this game, give the first episode a try. It's free and it will give a pretty good feel for what you'll be purchasing. I also recommend purchasing the Season Pass as opposed to buying the episodes individually, as you'll save $10 if you do so. $15 is very good deal for a game that costs $25 on PC and that will give you hours of enjoyment. Just know that you have to be patient while waiting for the final two episodes. Telltale tends to take their time with their episodic releases and it takes tablet users a little longer to wait for the game to be transferred and put in the app store. The game has plenty of replayability too, as the choices affect the story, so you'll want to play it again and again to see the different outcomes.
I love this game, but I'm SUPER PISSED that the next episodes haven't continued to flow through the Kindle version. I spent $15 on the season pass when I shoulda just bought the d***ed thing on STEAM when it was on sale the very next day for less than $10 for ALL the episodes, since they've ALL BEEN RELEASED on PC. I've been waiting for MONTHS to just get to the next part but I have no clue when it'll materialize. Truth be told, I don't even remember what the heck I was doing last... I think the next time I'll buy a title that has already been completed on this platform instead of putting my faith in a franchise that may or may not release content for the device I have.
********** 3/1/15********* Well, they release the rest of the game some time ago but the story in my mind has lost its momentum... I'll finish this game some day but for now on I'll just move onto something else. Thanks for making us wait forever for DLCs.
I downloaded this game a good four to five years ago, back then only two episodes were available. now in 2018 all episodes are available so I bought them to experience the rest of the story for myself, when I returned to the game I enjoyed, I came back to missing textures and dialogue options being missing. characters and locations are black shadows, during character dialogue boxes appear empty or flat out don't show up not to forget, menu options are missing as well throughout even if the other glitches haven't occurred. the game ran perfectly fine back when I first got it, and it appears that all these glitches became apparent when I downloaded the last three episodes. since the game has been out for a while I suppose I can't expect any updates to fix the glitches but to anyone looking at downloading this game, don't do it on a tablet
I was so excited to find this game for my Kindle -- I am a HUGE fan of the Walking Dead games from the same developer and couldn't wait to try The Wolf Among Us. The format is awesome and addictive! The problem was, as I had read in other reviews, it isn't as complete as I would have liked. Many of the characters are blacked out half the time, and about half an hour into my first time playing, the text (in classic choose-your-own-adventure style) just stopped appearing. Just... blank lines. So I stopped playing ::sigh::. I'm really anxious to try again, and really REALLY ready to give this one 5 Stars. But the Kindle version needs some work first! Keep 'em coming, Telltale! You've got a friend in me!
I've seen this game played and it looked absolutely amazing and downloaded it myself. However, there have been times where certain characters come up as plainly black figures and the speaking options come up blank. I have been putting up with this for 3 episodes and not been able to progress from the lucky pawn because it has gotten so bad. I want to be able to make my own choices in this game, not just press blank boxes and hope for the best. Please get this fixed because I have purchased the season pass and don't want to have wasted my money on a game of such good potential but horrible quality.
I love the story line and the gameplay. It does glitch a fair bit (some of the characters and other things going black and option boxes coming up blank) but I've stuck at it and kept restarting because it is a VERY good game. I'm hooked on the mysterious story. My biggest issue is that I can only get the first episode. The other 4 episodes just say "coming soon" and if I attempt to buy then all I get is an error. Please don't leave me hanging telltale games. More please...
I was really excited to see this game on Amazon. I love both seasons of 'The Walking Dead' game and this game promises to be as good, if not better, than that. Graphics are amazing and gameplay is great, but the bloody glitch that causes the characters to be silhouettes is so annoying. It is impossible to immerse oneself into the game and I am really hoping that this problem is sorted out asap. I'm unwilling to play any more until it is.
It's a good game with good story telling. However, I got the season pass after playing the first episode to play the second and third. But it's been over four months and counting for the last two episodes to come to kindle and android. And TTG's been very quiet on when it will be released and I'm starting to feel like I've bought something and it's not been delivered. Since The Walking Dead get/got their android episode only a week after everyone else.
Really? I've paid a lot of money for "all 5 episodes" as they say? Ridiculous. I'm using a KFHDX no silhouette issues or anything. But please, at least do what we paid for? I really enjoyed this game until now, shame the amazon app store aren't as popular as Google Play and Apple that are getting all the continuous updates, hopefully Amazon will become at the same level one day. :)
