Neither of this issues are big issues for us, and we recommend it for anyone looking for a unique night light!

Sadly this doesn't work as described. After you charge it, you should be able take it off the charger. give it a shake, and it will turn on. Well, mine doesn't do that. I've owned different versions if this same light (two different Mickey mouse ones), so I know how they work and how to work them. Just to be sure, I did read all of the directions for use and followed them to a T. I also had my husband read them just in case I was completely misunderstanding everything, but alas, it just doesn't work as described. When I originally saw the reviews for this product I thought that perhaps people were not understanding how it worked. Well....my bad for not listening.

The light does light up while on the charging unit only (which I believe is a defect and probably why it doesn't work while not on the charger). I gave it 2 stars because it is cute, and does light up when on the charger, so technically it acts as a standard night light, but its soft and squishy for a reason, and the reason us not to sit on a charger.

I would not gift this since you're not sure if its going to work, but if it does work, it would be an adorable gift.

Since mine doesn't work unless it's on the charger, I would say the battery life is non existent.
