Makes shredding easier but difficult to clean due to gaps in the plastic.

Makes shredding easier but difficult to clean due to gaps in the plastic.
I purchased these shredding claws because my wife has started a new diet and I've been frequently cooking meats in the slow cooker for her. Initially, I was shredding the beef and pork and chicken with two dinner forks and thought to myself, "There has to be something better out there." It didn't take me long to find a bunch of options on Amazon. I went with the Cave Tools brand because the price was fair (I didn't want something too cheap, but I also didn't need anything expensive) and they were plastic (I didn't want metal to corrode or scratch my cookware). These claws were excellent at pulling the meat apart and shredding it quickly. They're larger than my forks, so they shred in less time, and they don't have long handles, so they're easier to handle than the forks. That also means your hands have to get closer to the hot food, so let it cool first. They're also sharper than they look in the picture, great for puncturing meat to hold it in place with one claw while the other shreds.I did find one flaw with these shredders though. They saved money by not making the claws a solid piece of plastic. The plastic is hollow on the underside, meaning there are large gaps that come to a point in the prongs. This is a great place for food and debris to hide, and it's too small to get a dish scrubber in to clean. I would rather have paid $5 more for the claws and had them be one solid piece of plastic without the nooks and crannies for food to hide in. I hope a version 2.0 comes out with an improved design. Still, I'm happy I purchased these claws and do recommend them to anyone who shreds anything on a regular basis. They definitely made cooking easier. 4/5 stars

These meat claws are strong, sharp, and really do make shredding cooked meat easier. Before I bought these, I pulled pork (and beef, and chicken) with two forks. That always took more time and effort than I thought it should, and my hands were always tired and sometimes achy afterwards. So, for an upcoming family gathering where I planned to pull two whole pork shoulders, I wanted a better method. I ordered a set of these, but as the date of the gathering drew near, and I worried I would not get these claws in time, I bought a different pair of meat-pulling claws at a local store. Then, these arrived, in time for the gathering. As a result, I was able to "test drive" both types of tools. I have to say that using these Cave Tools claws is the superior way to pull pork shoulder into shreds. The grips on these tools allow them to work like extensions to my knuckles, and they really do allow the user to pull an entire pork shoulder into shreds in just a couple of minutes, versus what I estimate would have been 10 to 15 minutes of work using two forks, and would have resulted in tired "people paws" afterward. I have only one suggestion for an improvement, if it is not a technical impossibility of the plastic-molding process: make the backs of the claws solid and smooth; there are small indentations in the backs that can hang onto little shreds of meat that make cleanup a little more work than a smooth, solid back would do.

So, I've gotten into smoking and it was just a matter of time before I was going to try pulled pork. Man, where have these been all my life. Way better than trying to shred it with two forks...lol.

DISCLAIMER: I am a regular Amazon customer and PAID the same price for this product that was publicly available to everyone else. I did not get this for free or at any special hidden discount to write a review. This is my HONEST opinion as a real paying customer and it is not biased in anyway by getting "paid with a product" to write it.

I have now used these claws to shred pork, beef and chicken and they are so much better than my old method of using two kitchen forks. The claws: 1) greatly speed up the shredding process, and 2) pulls the meat into pieces perfect for great BBQ sandwiches. They are sharp and dishwasher safe if placed in the top rack.

How much do I like these? I recently have ordered a second set to give to my married daughter and her husband so they can make pulled pork, beef or chicken sandwiches when I come for a visit! I love BBQ.

BONUS: Here is super easy slow cooker/crock pot recipe I found online for PULLED BEEF that can be served with BBQ sauce or with au jus (like a French dip sandwich). I have made this 4 or 5 times now and it has been great every time!

1) Take 3 to 4 lbs of beef chuck roast, 1 pack (1 oz) of powdered hidden valley ranch, 1 pack (1 oz) of powdered au jus gravy/sauce, and 1 stick of butter. Put the beef chuck roast in the slow cooker (if one large piece of meat, I cut in two and add both) and immediately top meat with the powdered ranch, the powdered au jus gravy and the stick of butter (just dump them in). Put the lid on the slow cooker, and set to LOW heat for 7 to 8 hours. You might want to stir things in the slow cooker once about an hour or two into the process. Recover and let it cook.

2) After the 7 to 8 hours in the slow cooker, remove the beef (but save what's left in slow cooker if you want au jus style). Shred/pull the beef using the CLAWS, of course. If you want au jus style, skim the fat from the au jus gravy that is left in the slow cooker and what's left after you throw out the skimmed fat is a tasty au jus. If you want BBQ pulled beef, just add your favorite BBQ sauce (generously) to your pulled beef sandwich.

A huge thanks to CAVE TOOLS for making the whole process of pulling the meat so much easier!

These are plastic, which is obvious by the price, but they do a beautiful job shredding chicken. There is about a one minute learning curve - super easy and effective. I haven't tried them on beef yet but they seem like they will do fine.

I purchased this item as a lot of reviews I has read said the bear claws brans was the best and a better quality, so paid the extra for these and shipping only to find they do not live up the their name. When they arrived I noticed that the colour was brown not the gun metal grey as ordered, however as these were for a gift, I didn't have the time to change these. Whilst the claws themselves work fine, after only using these twice, the bear claws name has rubbed off completely, so I might as well have bought a different brand, rather than paying for the bear claws brand. Would just purchase from an AUS seller next time and save the added expense.
