Blaz drops Rylee and Liam off on the far frozen north coast of Russia. Blaz leaves them to be alone; truly alone. For the first time since Liam laid eyes on Rylee --even when he was a still on the force, she was always surrounded by either friend, fiend, foe, family, werewolves, vampires....whew! whatever Rylee was into you can bet she was always in the mix of characters.

This was their first 'For Real' alone time. Liam had promised the old wolf that he would come and learn how to be a proper were. So they decided to make it like a holiday. A holiday well deserved and far overdue. The ice crystals stirred by the great Dragons departure had barely fallen still and they were in each other's arms. After sizzling love in the snow, still in their birthday suits, when an old woman begs Rylee to find her missing Catya. Damn! Another missing child!... As the old woman disappears back into the dark forest..the leader of the outcast wolves bids them welcome. They are welcomed with open arms by the submissive, passive weres. But when a group of self righteous spell casters attack the weres village, none of the villagers even put up a fight! Furious beyond belief at the lack of will to fight, Rylee lashes out at them...

it is then that Rylee and Liam find out that the weres had sworn an oath to never kill again...That's when the horrible truth of the villagers comes out...At one time, they were all killers...eaters of man flesh. Because of the horrid past, they can't even protect their own children without breaking their oaths!! What to do, what to do!?!

It doesn't matter. Everywhere Rylee goes trouble is not far behind.

I just finished book 6.5 Guardian, I can't believe they just keep getting better and better.I was a HUGE Anita Blake FAN THE first ten books in that SERIES are wonderful and I have read some of them more than once, but as the books progressed they lost the story and the characters were just flat.I bought every book hoping for the best but it never came AFFLICTION WAS THE LAST STRAW NO MORE ANITA BLAKE FOR ME. I set out to find another series I could enjoy and boy did I find it. You SHANNON MAYER ARE MY NEW FAVORITE AUTHOR. I bought all nine books and it took me three days to get through six and a half.books I can't stop reading. My eye's are tired and dry and I don't care... But then I read there is only going to be TEN books in this series? Oh please say it isn't so, my HEART will be broken. I will read everything you put out, but this SERIES IS NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART. I love everybody in it even some of the bad guys. I want to slow down and savor the last books but I can't. Unforgettable characters like RYLEE AND LIAM AND ALEX AND EVEN MILLY stay with you, I laughed and cried and just enjoyed the ride, I will be sad when it ends.

But hey, they tried. This is a Novella that's supposed to be read between books 6 and 7. I usually don't bother with short in-between works like this, since they generally aren't all that important to the overall series (and besides, I really don't care for short books). In this case, though, I'm glad that I did.

This short story showed some much needed romance between the lovers. Yes, there was still a lot of action, because it seems like Rylee finds trouble even when Fate isn't forcing the issue. But it also reinterated the prophecy details that have unfortunately become crystal clear to everyone except Rylee.

What really made it worthwhile to read as a short story was the introduction of a few new characters, plus a couple of big surprises (which I definitely won't tell you about--sorry!) You should read it for yourself, because it's worth the time to do so, and worth the cost of the book.

This was a short but oh so good novella ! Rylee & Liam are thrown into another battle of good verses evil, while Liam is trying to learn more of his guardian powers. I won't tell what happens, however the ending filled my heart! The love of these two are what dreams are made of. You MUST read this one !!!!
I highly recommend and this is a good steamy 18+ novella ;)
