The beginning of the book jumped around quite a bit and was somewhat confusing, but it all smoothed out as the story continued. The characters appeared to be more likeable than in the first book where I found them to be a bit "cardboard". Emma's assistant, Kristy, has a dark past that she has not shared with anyone - and that fact is now causing problems for her. A man is murdered in the apartment building where she lives, a friend of hers is attacked and a police woman killed. All investigative roads lead back to Kristy although she doesn't appear to have a motive. Kristy's past intertwines with the three crimes and the perpetrator came as a complete surprise to me! And the mystery "Boss" is still a mystery...guess I will have to read the next book to find out who he is!

Ordinarily I’m not a mystery reader, but this book was enjoyable from start to finish. I also hadn’t read book 1, but Main Street Murder reads great as a standalone. There were quite a few characters, but each was drawn well and fit the story, so that I never found myself confused. The author’s descriptions of Wyoming were lovely. I would have liked even more description of settings, but I realize that’s not a big part of the mystery genre. Contrary to what some reviewers have stated, this felt like a complete story to me. Yes, there is more to come (I'm guessing sort of a James Moriarty to Sherlock Holmes type of continuation), because this is a series, but this story and murders wrapped up very nicely and I didn’t feel at all hung out to dry. In fact, I’ll look forward to reading another book by Ms. Crowder any time!

Main Street Murder by Linda Crowder is the second installment of the Jake and Emma Mystery series and one that is just as good, if not better than the first book, Too Cute to Kill.

This second book begins with a May 1st blizzard in Casper and a murder while the roads are closed in or out of the city. Jake and Emma are never far from the action and when one of their closest friends is named a suspect in the murder, they go above and beyond to prove her innocence. As one other reviewer noted, the ending was not closure, so be prepared to read the next book for unanswered questions in this second installment.

I loved the backdrop of Wyoming for this story, as with the first book, the sights, sounds and feel of the area jumped from the pages as I read through the story. The author is a great story-teller and I look forward to the next book in the series.

The novel seemed a little slow, or perhaps leisurely would be a better description. I didn't personally "mesh" with any of the characters; to me, they seemed just average people, and I did not feel a personal investment in how anything turned out for them. Likeable, but dull, would be my assessment if I met these people in real life. I enjoyed the book, and the story was well-plotted, but I can't say I'd rush to read another novel by this author. As I probably say too often, just not my cup of tea.

They wake up in May to a snow storm, so Emma calls her receptionist Kristy Castle who canceled Emma's appointments for the day, no one can drive in this weather. Mean while Kristy downstairs neighbor, Vince Shipton is planning on fleeing Casper, he left a note for his boss but he just can't do a job he was paid for, which ends up being his demise. Detective Matt Joyner has never solved the crime. Now someone is targeting Cheri Jackson a widow that works at the bank and on the Welcoming Committee along with Kristie. Kristie seems to be the common denominator, but is she capable of murder?

This is a pleasant but ordinary cozy. With so very, very many books to choose from, a writer needs a hook to reel readers in. This book doesn't have one. The protagonist, victim and even the perpetrator are easily forgettable. If I were to attempt to offer the writer a suggestion it would be look to the other writers her bio says she reads. Give us a little controversy or a central figure we can love or an exotic locale. In other words, something to set her series apart from the crowd. I'm sorry to say in spite of her attempt at a cliff hanger at the end, I'm not inspired to read the next book in her series. I also have to mention the small errors, such as missing words scattered through the text, were quite annoying. Proofread!

This truly is a cozy mystery in the best possible way. Jake and Emma a delightful couple with very full lives of their own, fall into a mystery when an employee's name is overheard in connection with a recent murder. To say more would be to ruin the plot. But Jake and Emma in an attempt to protect their friend do what they can to help solve the mystery. What I absolutely love about this book is that the author never down plays the role of the police or insults the reader's intelligence by bringing in information at the last minute to solve the mystery. The other aspect I loved, and I hesitate to say this for fear of putting too much pressure on the author, is that it resembles Agatha Christie in that it is a cozy mystery but it never down plays the evil or tragedy of a life ended violently. Bravo Ms. Crowder.

This was an easy read, what I call a light mystery. I enjoyed it, and the characters were likeable. However, the main mystery was easy to figure out and there wasn't a lot of suspense to the story. Also, there are a lot of grammatical errors in the book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good, clean story .

Annoying to finish the second book and still be left dangling from the first book. A good mystery author does not need to do this. Proofreading would have been nice- a number of grammatical and spelling errors. Not enough depth to the characters. More description of a rodeo and parade than the characters. The two main characters remain stereotyped people. Light reading.
