I'm still getting used to this. My wife bought a vent clip for her phone and let me borrow it. I liked the convenience it gave me for my own phone, but it was too bulky, so I went looking for a "flatter" clip for myself. I found this. It works perfectly for my needs. The rubber clip can be used on "thin" or "thick" vents, and will turn with some force. I have yet to use the attached cable clip for my charger and aux cable, and it looks like I don't really need it. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll get my phone in and out of the clip without two hands, so far no good.

The design of your specific dash vents will determine how well this works. Mounting of the mount aside, this one does hold the phone well, with a strong spring-loaded clamp, although it does take both hands to put the phone in. (Belkin and Tesla should get together to offer $2 off when purchased with a self-driving Tesla!) It might be possible to remove the phone from the mount using one hand, depending on how sturdy your vents are and how the mount fits on your vent. This mount seems to be well made compared to a few others I’ve seen, but after a year, mine had a plastic piece crack (no idea how this could have happened), on a side edge of the rectangular middle piece with the Belkin logo (see photo). The crack didn’t affect the function of the mount. I have only limited first hand experience with a couple other vent mounts, but this one is probably better than most.

Easy to use in any car. This is the same phone mount that's sold in an Apple box. (I'd previously purchased one, and upon opening the box saw it was Belkin.)
Very few moving parts make it simple to use. Just push it onto the vent, spread the holder to fit in your smartphone. A charging chord can easily be used with the phone at the same time. No tightening or adjustments needed. Fits the phone with or without a case, and can easily pop out one and put in another -- the spring loaded grip automatically adjusts.
Since the vents in all cars seem to be in a good position for GPS use, I highly recommend this over models that utilize th cigarette lighter or cup holder (both of which can be in locations not conducive to phone use.) The vent also seems to be a good position for using the phone (hands free) by putting it on speaker-phone.
I purchased my first when I was going to be using someone else's car for an extended period, as they didn't have a GPS or hands-free set-up for the phone. (I let them keep it, high is the reason for my needing another.)
I now have one for use with rental cars when traveling. Not only is the cost lower than adding GPS rental, but It's also nice not to have to fumble with the quirkiness and oddities of unfamiliar GPS systems. And, the car mount easily fits in a pocket or purse when it's time to remove it from th vehicle.

Also he uses his phone a lot as a gps or to listen to music, and the mount puts the phone in a location where he can easily look at it. He no longer has to look down at his phone for directions while he's driving. The fact that it's adjustable to fit different size phones is good, so it grips the phone well. I like how the phone can be placed vertically or horizontally. The only con so far, according to my bf, is that sometimes you can't pull the phone out of the holder without pulling the whole mount off the vent. Overall, seems to work pretty well.

At first, I wrote a five star review for this product. However, after a few days, I've changed my mind because issues started popping up left and right.

I bought this Car Vent Mount because the one I previously bought is abysmal. The other one I bought uses a very strong magnet, and it requires you to stick a metal/magnet plate on your phone (which was terrible because (1) the metal/magnet plate is black and my phone is white, and (2) my white phone case is see through, so it definitely aesthetically failed). The previous product had *several* problems (that I won't mention here), so I decided to get a new and (hopefully) better one. The Belkin Car Vent Mount looked simple, and it didn't share some of the same problems the other product has (e.g. (1) super powerful magnet that will probably ruin your phone eventually if you use it often, (2) it forces you to change the look of your phone by requiring you to stick a 2''x2'' black metal/magnet plate on the back of your phone or case, etc.). However, problems with the Belkin product started showing up quickly. I'll save you time and enumerate them in a succinct list below:

(1) It's not optimal for an iPhone Plus (or any other type of phone that's on the bigger side). Your phone will change positions quite often, and it might even fall, especially if your vent is vertical instead of horizontal. For example, my iPhone 6s PLUS is too heavy for it. When I take turns at a certain speed, my phone changes position. At one point, my phone fell (this is the hair that broke the camel's back, which made me decide to change my review). These issues might apply to smaller phones too, but I can't speak to that.

(2) You can't easily take the phone out of the mount without the whole product coming out too. This actually became very irritating really quickly.

(3) My phone *barely* fits unless I take off the case which I don't want to do, and which I shouldn't have to do. (This problem is intertwined with problem number 2).

These three are the main problems, and they're big enough that it made me decide to change my review. I do think this Car Mount is the best I've used so far, but it still falls WAY short of being satisfactory.

I'm someone who cannot ride without the assistance of Google Maps on the roads of NCR. Have used a windshield/dashboard mount previously, found it to be too bulky and a dis-tractor, no matter where I install it. Hence needed something that fits on the AC vent or the CD drive. Was looking at the one by Zaap, iOttie and Belkin. Went with Belkin because of the brand name and the silver finish in pictures and a few videos that I found on Youtube.

Must say, the product is quite well built, feels premium for a little mechanical device that holds your phone.

Pros:

1. Can rotate 360 degree for landscape viewing. On rotation, gives you a snap at every turn like a fan regulator which adds to a strong feel factor.
2. Spring mechanism for tight holding of phone is quite strong. My iPhone 7 with an Otterbox Achiever series case fits seamlessly and remains totally in-place.
3. Fits easily over the vent. It is recommended to install it on the lower vent and when the AC is not on warm-mode.

Je mets rarement 5 étoiles, mais j'ai acheté plusieurs supports (notamment à ventouse) qui n'ont que très peu fonctionné, or c'est le 1er qui me donne entièrement satisfaction !
Il maintient mon iphone 5s avec sa coque de protection (un étui à rabat, donc assez épais) sans aucun problème, parfait pour les applis Waze et GPS que j'utilise tout le temps. La machoire pour fixer l'appareil possède des protections en caoutchouc pour maintenir fermement mais ne pas l'endommager.
Les dents qui rentrent dans la grille d'aération de ma voiture (scénic III) sont du même acabit : épaisses, en caoutchouc, et terriblement fiable (à voir sur du long terme). Astuce : si vous n'utilisez pas la bague pour tenir le cable d'alimentation (ce qui est mon cas puisque l'iphone 5s se branche par le bas), vous pouvez facilement l'enlever, ce qui améliore encore la fixation.
Conseil : une fois placé, j'évite d'enlever le support de la grille. Pensez également à ne plus faire fonctionner l'aération en mode chauffage sur celle-ci.
Au niveau de la fixation, qualité Belkin au RDV : j'en suis vraiment ravi
