What an amazing instrument at a rock-bottom price!

What an amazing instrument at a rock-bottom price!
This is one amazing instrument! I am still learning all the things it does!I was worried that maybe 8-bit resolution would not be enough, but it works just fine or everything I need it for. Think of this as more than just a DSO (Digital Storage Oscilloscope). It is a multi-tester - you can get realtime readouts of many many different measurements right next to the waveform, such as Vrms, Vp-p, frequency, Mean volts, max volts, min volts, etc. So kind of like having a DMM right in the scope. The screen is extremely clear, bright, and easy to read. Many trigger modes, acquire modes - like I said, still learning how to use it. FFT built-in, I could go on and on. The spec sheet does not give this unit justice, because it is difficult to describe all of the things it does. You can even trigger on the width of a pulse! Set a width (time), and it can be set to trigger for smaller pulses, larger pulses, or pulses within 5% of your setting. While I have not needed that, I can imagine that might be extremely useful! Catch a 5ns glitch! Set to trigger for less than 6ns width! WOW.Yes, you can see some digital artifacts but they are down in the noise - like 24 dB down. In other words, working with 1 volt full scale (that would be 8 major divisions) you would have digitization noise at 4mv - which is 1/32 of a major division. This is so small, it is not really an issue for almost all cases.I included a photo of the scope showing it reading the built-in square wave for testing the scope probes, and showing the "measurement" display next to the waveform. This measurement is accessed by pressing a single button, what you want to measure can be changed with a single button (F6), and the panel can be removed with a single button (F0).I love it!And yes, I realize that this level of technology is only available from China because of the extremely low wages... Sigh.

I bought this to use as a basic scope to troubleshoot and align an old Heathkit amateur radio project. It is simple to use and works fine for I am using it for. I haven't tried the FFT or much of the waveform storage yet, just playing with them. The built in help system is great and unlike a lot of Chinese equipment, actually looks like it was written by an English speaking person. Comes with 2 X1/X10 probes that seem to be of good quality. I used HP or Tek scopes before I retired and this one isn't an HP or Tek, but is a very good entry level scope for less than $200. I have also heard that this scope can be hacked for a full 200 Mhz bandwidth. All in all, worth the price to me.

If you are still sitting on the fence, and why else would you read this, go ahead and give this scope a try. As another reviewer said, it is a professional scope on a hobbyist budget. More, this scope is easy to switch to if you have been using only an analog scope before. It easily meets all specs (as far as I could measure, it quickly became the most accurate tool on my bench), it is well built, and it has more features than most hobbyists (and quite a few professionals) will ever use. The manual is comprehensive and written in easy-to-understand English, and the graphical user interface is very intuitive. Of course, there is a bit of a learning curve, but with the amount of features this scope has, this is to be expected.

There is one fly in the ointment though: the software to control the scope from a PC. I could install it with no apparent problems under Windows 10, but it would not recognize the connected scope. I contacted the manufacturer, but they never replied. But since the GUI is so intuitive, I see no real need to control the scope from a PC, and I therefore did not go down to a four star rating. If the manufacturer would have been more responsive, I would have recommended the scope for professional use as well. But since the scope is widely used, you are likely to find an Internet forum where you can ask technical questions and get them answered. So far, however, the PC software was not among the things people discussed, and, as I said, I did not see a need for the PC software yet either.

Actually works better than the Hantek DSO5102P. Triggering seems less sensitive and less erratic. The probes need adjusting. Overall works well for an inexpensive oscilloscope. I could nitpick a few things but for the price, why bother. I would have given it 5 stars but Hantek does not warrant accessories, so if your probes or AC power cord are defective, you will not get a replacement.

If you are buying this scope chances are you are already experienced with electronics, and removing and replacing capacitors. DO IT with this scope. The Chinese make great scopes, televisions and other electronics items with the exception of their capacitors. The caps on almost all of their electronics items are pure junk. If you don’t believe me, look up YouTube videos of this model scope and you will find one from someone who found a bargain on one of these that was new but doa, it was one of the caps literally exploded inside of it. He replaced it and the scope worked fine. I have been an electronic repairman for over 20 years and I constantly get broken Chinese televisions with the same exact issue, blown or bulging caps and the products are only a year old. This is very common! Caps will either bulge, swell leak or explode. You don’t find this happening with old well built electronics from the 70s and 80s because we weren’t so cheap back then. It is easy to open, find the values and order a set of good quality Japanese caps and swap them out. Don’t buy cheap ones off eBay and end up replacing junk with junk. The rest of this scope is solid and well built, and if you do what I said you will be passing this scope down to your kinds and grandkids like we do our old Tektronix scopes from the 70s. And while this is somewhat of a rant, it’s our fault everything is made in China now. We live in a society where we want cheap. The Chinese are very capable of making quality items just like any other Country can, but they are told to make products on a shoestring budget by the manufacturers so they can sell their product and compete. You know this is true because you yourself are looking at one of the cheapest scopes on Amazon right now! Your welcome :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hantek DSO5072P is a nice scope at a great price.
Reviewed in Canada on October 10, 2016
I ordered the Hantek DSO5072P from Realsun. These guys are great, got it very quickly.
The DSO5072P seems to be quite a capable scope for my needs. I did a quick test of the various inputs with different signals and the unit seems to be working well. Quite straight forward to use once you start looking at the screen instead of looking for marks on the dials (like on an analog scope, since digital scopes have menus instead of marked dials)
This is the first two channel digital scope I have owned, my last scope is a rather old single channel analog scope.
This unit makes things so much quicker to measure with the voltage, frequency and other readouts. It even has an Auto mode that, for a lot of signals, will set up the scope for you. The scope will remember what you have it set to if it is powered off (wait at least 5 seconds after your last setting change). It also has setting memories, but I haven't played with them yet. It has many trigger / pre-triggering options, including line (60/50Hz AC power line), ch1, ch2, swap (which will alternately triggers ch1 & ch2 so both waveforms can be locked independently), a dedicated trigger input BNC, video (NTSC, PAL, SECAM field or line), and more.
The screen is quite easy to read and very adjustable. You can set the colours of your channels, math function output, and more.
I haven't played with the storage functions, or connected it to a computer as of yet.
It can also be set to a 2nS time base (even though it is a 70MHz scope), though the highest frequency I have tested it with was 25MHz (so far). This seems to save the bother of 'hacking' the software on the scope. It is probably not as accurate above 70MHz/100Mhz as the DSO5202P (200MHz) scope, but is still a great deal for the price.
The scope has lots of vents and a small, very quiet fan. Auto calibration can also be preformed and is recommended when you move the unit to an area that has a temperature difference of more than 5 deg C. (leave unit running for 20min or more before cal)
There are so many more functions and settings that this unit has I could probably write a book! There is a PDF manual that Hantek sends on a mini-CD (along with drivers and software), and you can also get this content from their website. Have a look at the manual in PDF format and see if it fits what you need it for. The english isn't perfect, but it is a lot better than some and is fairly easy to understand.

My DSO5072P included a standard north american power cord (looks like the box was opened to check or include the correct one).
Along with two nice 80MHz 1/10x probes (PP-90) which included 7 coloured rings, two tip attachments, setting screwdriver, and a pouch per probe set. Also, included an USB (A to B) cable, some paperwork and a mini-CD (the CD was slightly scratch, but I had no problems reading it on my PC)

Would recommend this to anyone that doesn't need to spend mega-$$$$ on a super-highend industrial oscilloscope. Probably overkill for most DIY / hobbyist activities, but at this price more is always better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DSO
Reviewed in Canada on April 8, 2017
DSO5072P is a great digital scope, perfect fit for a hobbyist. Functionally, this oscilloscope is very similar to some well known (and expensive) brands.
Don't think anyone would particularly benefit from a "hacking" procedure found on the Internet, since scope's software can already display and measure signals over 100MHz, although with reduced accuracy. I was able to successfully capture waveforms of 150MHz signals.
Included probes are good up to 60-70MHz, and are good enough for usual tasks.

Fantastic scope. Always wanted one but could never fully justify buying one until I saw this. Its paid for itself already with 'debugging' a digital controller.
For the price, I highly recommend this scope.
