To answer that question after reading the book I would have to say I would keep dancing! I believe that long distance love can workout, I'm a former Navy Brat and my parents did it. I mean my Dad wasn't involved in any wars, but he did have to leave us for months at a time and one time a whole year! Their love was strong enough for them to stay together; well I'm sure having two kids in the mix was a reason for it too. Lol! I digress.
Zoe Parker has it pretty hard! Her boyfriend and best friend she finds out have been sleeping together behind her back and in public for the whole town to see. Her mom died recently, her Dad isn't the same since she died, and is never around, she was laid off her job, and to top it all off it's summer and hot as all hell! Yea I felt like she was experiencing a little bit of hell. The girl just has no luck it seemed like. I was pulling for some happiness to come her way as I was reading. My heart felt like it was going to explode because of the pain I felt for and with her. And when I think this is going to be the whole story she sees a handsome man at the airport that will no doubt change her life.
Calvin Hall enlisted into the military after high school and hasn't been home in 5 long years! He is coming home to parents that were killed in a car accident and he was unable to attend their funeral do to his orders in the Military. He is coming back to his sister and grandparents and a small town where little has changed, but Calvin is not the same guy he was before he left. The military has changed him for the better in my eyes, but everyone has their shit to deal with. He is expecting to come home and relax until his leave is over in two weeks. What he doesn't expect is to meet Zoe Parker, and have his life change even more.
I enjoyed reading September Tango, it was different from most of the books I read, but it was refreshing to break away from my normalcy. The chemistry described between the two characters makes you think back to the first time you really, really, really fell in love and it makes you think of all the heartache and friends you may have lost and gained in life. How life has its downs, but when you least expect it has a lot of great ups!
I love that the couple in this story is interracial. I honestly have not read a lot of books that have this aspect of it and a thoroughly enjoyed it.
One of my favorite aspects of this book and what also peeked my interest in wanting to read this book is that a male wrote for the character of Calvin! I love to know what a man is thinking and how he thinks, and why he thinks the things he thinks. I absolutely love it! I'm thinking that is why the sex scenes are so hot and steamy because they are coming from not only a female perspective by a male's as well. That doesn't happen very often! It's all about chemistry man, and the chemistry is fire in this book!
A lot happens in this book and you will never be bored. Both characters even though they have been through so much, they are both very strong people and I can relate to having to rely only on yourself and that it is hard to allow someone else in to help you from time to time. I love that the two of them found solace in each other.
And yes there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end (cliffhangers and I have a love hate relationship) and I'm praying that there will be a book 2! I need to know what will come of Calvin and Zoe! There just wasn't enough time! Lol!
**Fingers crossed for a sequel**
**Spoilers Below**
Zoe and her long time boyfriend have just broken up after she finds out that he has been sleeping with her friends. Over the course of the week that the story takes place Zoe also discovers that her father who mysteriously has been absent, has abandoned her and moved to Las Vegas to cater to his secret gambling addiction. He has left Zoe with a shitty Dear John letter, and an overdrawn bank account, no money, and her childhood home that is in foreclosure. Within a few days time she loses everyone in her life that was important to her, until Calvin, her ex-best friends, ex-boyfriend from high school walks back into her life after 5 years away in the Army. Calvin is home on R&R from Afghanistan and he and Zoe, meet at a party his first night home. They are instantly attracted to each other, and Calvin whisks her away for some alone time that results in a 4 day crash course on falling in love. With Calvin’s leave cut short, he is forced to leave the woman that he has fallen in love with, with no one to rely on, no friends, no family, no job, and no home. Calvin knows that he wants to be with Zoe, he wants her at home waiting for him to come back, he wants a future with her, he wants to take care of her, so he does what any good soldier would do…he puts a ring on it. Calvin’s family rallies the troops to throw a last minute wedding, providing Zoe with the family dynamic and unconditional love and support that she has been stripped of. The end is left in a cliffhanger, but its nothing major; there will defiantly be a second book though.
Yes this story unfolds at hyper speed, but this is the best option for them to have a successful relationship with Calvin being in the Army and with Zoe having just become homeless and friendless. This scenario happens to real life military couples all the time. I myself am an AF spouse, and I know a hand full of couples that were married in less then a few months from meeting. Maybe not in a few days, but this scenario is no different then the many books that I’ve read with a drunken Vegas marriage. Sometimes you just have to jump in the water and learn how to swim later.
***End Spoilers***
What I love about this book is that it is so detailed. Usually it drives me nuts, but as I read the book, and listened to events of Zoe and Calvin’s lives, I could see it play out in my head. There were no time lapses or gaps; it all flowed together in one non-ending story that lasts from the day they meet to the day Calvin leaves. Zoe is also a beautiful full figured woman at a size 16, and Calvin is black. This aspect of the book did not faze me in the least. Until I was just over 50% through the book I never even knew, it is such a non issue, and even after its revealed that they are a mixed race couple, its only touched on a few times. If this is something that you don’t prefer to read about, it is so easy to insert the Channing Tatum of your choice and keep reading. This is but a small detail in the book that has no weight on any of their actions or relationships. To me, this book was real life. These were situations that us living outside of our Kindle have to deal with. We deal with our loves leaving for war, we deal with cheating, we deal with abandonment, deceit, and betrayal. We deal with having to make decisions that may seem crazy to others in order to make things work.
The only thing that I didn’t like about the book had to do with the writing structure. The POV changes from Calvin to Zoe, but there was no real distinguisher between the two, they switched from paragraph to paragraph with no story brake or indication of whose POV it was. Other then that, I really liked the book, and I would suggest it to anyone that is looking for an easy read with solid real life characters and events.

It brought back memories as there were

It has pretty much everything with no scary cliffhanger yet it still has me eagerly awaiting the next instalment.
