Entrepreneurs are busy, we all know that! However, most of us are busy in the everyday activities and we pile a long list of things we would like to do. Among my top 5 things to do, three of them are entrepreneurial books to read. I just have all the wisdom in the wold to read them: unfortunately little time to do it. Edify.me made my weekend with this succinct yet comprehensive and well structured summary of the lean start up method. The examples such as the Facebook reason for growth, are well summarized as well as the content. Content is presented in a schematic yet effective way and allows some space for making your own summary to the summary. Overall the book succeeds to providing the reader with the essential take home messages from the original book in a convenient amount of time.
If you are interested in reading The Lean Startup, so yourself a favor and read this instead. The original book, as many of the reviews indicate, is waaaaaay too long and repetitive. I read it and I read the summary. Trust me you'll get most of the good of the original without the pain of having to live through the self promotion and nauseating repetition.
I've already read the book but wanted a quick refresher of the principles covered within the book. This Summary was a great way to get the gist of the book chapters without having to fully re-read the book. For people in a time crunch who aren't sure if the book covers the content they need / want, this summary would be a great overview to either pique your interest or confirm that you need another resource.
I find it hard to finish most business books, both because I don't have the time, and because the books tend to be poorly written, repetitive, and full of extraneous detail. This is the first summary of a business book that I've read, and now I'm hooked.
I finished this edify.me summary of the lean startup in one sitting, in under an hour. (The book cover claims it takes 45 minutes; I didn't time myself, but that's a pretty good ballpark estimate.) There are parts that I will probably need to refer back to in order to fully understand the details (such as the section on Kanban for Lean Startups, a recommended tool for measuring the performance of your lean startup that I'm not familiar with), but the summary condenses the book into a very manageable size. The writing quality was also a pleasant surprise to me, so that it felt like an easy read rather than a chore to get through.
Probably the biggest benefits of the condensed format is that the meaningful information is no longer so hard to find among all the BS. For example, I recently finished the (full text of) "The Profit Zone" , where there are numerous made-up stories that "illustrate" one of the kinds of profit models that the author is describing. I don't exactly know how much of that kind of fluff appears in the full-text of the "Lean Startup", but there is virtually none of it in this summary. You still get bullet point lists and a few anecdotes (mostly about Eric Ries's experiences at IMVU), but all of it contributes meaningful information, and there isn't so much information that my eyes glaze over.
I haven't read the full Lean Startup book, so I can't provide a detailed comparison with that, but a quick comparison of the table of contents from the full book and the summary indicates that the summary adheres pretty strictly to the same structure as the original. I consider this to be a big plus: if I want more information about a section, I can buy the full text and easily find the corresponding section there. So far, though, I haven't found any reason to need this. I can't tell for sure if the summary is comprehensive, but it certainly feels thorough.
All in all, I thought this was a much better way of reading a business book than actually having to read the full book.
I haven't read the full version of the book, so I can't speak to how thorough it is. However, I did get great value from this summary and If you need to know the basics fast to keep up with work, I'd highly recommend this. It's fast to read and afterwards you can decide if you need more examples given in the full version.
Really fantastic summary of the main takeaways from the Lean Startup. I just joined a startup and this was a really easy way to get up to speed on the key concepts that make startups successful. I love this slimmed down version because all the key ideas are captured and it makes it easy for me to come back and reference different concepts. I'm a new startup manager and I plan on regularly revisiting this to make sure I retained the core concepts. I will be definitely be checking out their other summaries!!
This is a well-written, perfect size summary. I have been thinking for a while that the majority of books don't need more than 50 pages to explain the main ideas and this summary proves that. I realize that I am making this assessment without reading the original book. I had to buy a summary instead of buying a book as I no longer have time to read the 336-page original book.
This really got you through the basics of everything you'd want to know from the actual book. I'd never read a summary style companion/book, but I have to say, for relatively boring material like this, I may have found a preference. Get the information and go.
