Excellent device.

I was a bit skeptical of the whole Chromebook argument at first. As a power user (programming, lots of content development, sound/video editing), I've always purchased mid to high-end laptops in the $900-$1200 range. I seriously expected this to be another gadget, like a netbook, that I played with for a month or two then gave away.

After two years with the platform, I am a convert. I won't go into all the benefits of the platform as you can read those elsewhere.

This CB2 by Toshiba is well-constructed. There is minimal flex in the construction. The finish doesn't rub off with use. The screen is bright and clear. There are no annoying gaps on the seams. Battery life is excellent and I routinely get 6+ hours of continuous usage.

Update: Sound is EXCELLENT.

I have done some serous typing on this laptop and the keyboard is as good as any other $1000 laptop I have owned.

Feels like a great laptop so far.

1. Refurbished
- I bought the refurbished model because it was $60 less then new. The laptop looks and acts brand new. I know some reviewers have said their refurbished models came scratched. I bought two laptops and you would not be able to they are refurbished.

2. Pro's
- Great screen, better then many laptops that cost twice as much as this laptop. The whole reason I bought this laptop was for the screen and I am not disappointed.
- Chrome OS has come a long way. I had a 2 year old ARM chromebook before this and it was not very good. It was slow, buggy, and had a bad screen. This laptop is fast and there is no lag when using google docs. (unlike my ARM chromebook). My arm chromebook is now going in the trash.
- Google maps and google Earth run very well on this laptop. Both of these apps/websites tend to work poorly on older chromebooks or low end laptops so its a good test of how fast this laptop is.
- It plays all sorts of video files with out any problem. So it would be great for movies on an airplane.
- I have an Ipad, but I do not think I will get another one. Between this laptop and my 5.5 in Android phone I just do not need it anymore.
- Battery life seems solid so far.
- Keyboard is great to type on, which is a big deal. As many laptops are not fun to type on.

3. Cons
- At first this laptop was really slow and I was very concerned, but once I installed an update everything worked great. So make sure to update right away.

4. Overall
I would highly recommend this laptop. Its my 3rd computer, as I have a windows desktop at work and at home. However, this could be your only laptop. Even if its not your only computer it makes for a very good low priced 2nd computer for traveling, sitting on the sofa, etc. I will still use my desktop when I need to do serous work, but do not see needing to buy a windows laptop ever again.

After Six Months of Use, No Regrets

I've been using this laptop for about six months now, and I love it! I am a PC user, and the display on my HP died. Since I didn't have it in my budget to replace the HP, I opted for a Chromebook. I purchased it because I wanted something lightweight and inexpensive with a good battery life. I realize that it is a bit more expensive than many Chromebooks, but the display is worth it.

I do a lot of typing, and the keyboard is comfortable. I realized at the time of purchase that there would be some limitations, but I get around those by using Chrome Remote Desktop to connect to my displayless HP (or to my work PC) to use the few apps I can't use directly on this device. I have had no issues with battery life. A single charge easily lasts all day for fairly constant use and an entire week if I'm only using it occasionally.

The display is gorgeous. The internal speakers are nothing special, but they're far from horrible. I prefer to use headphones anyway. Connecting to wifi has never been problematic. The computer starts fast. Very fast. The only thing that took some getting used to was learning the keyboard shortcuts. I'm a heavy keyboard shortcut user, and this keyboard does not have HOME, END, DEL, or any of the function keys that I use for my job. I can't ding the review for that since I knew this prior to purchase, but it might be something to think about if you're a heavy keyboard shortcut user.

After six months of use, I don't regret this purchase. This device has been perfect for my needs.

Why buy an expensive laptop when everything is becoming web-based. Save a ton of money and get a Chromebook
