The (large) disappointment has been the microphone's output port and the iOS Lightning cable that comes with the microphone. The first thing you notice is that a 3 ft cord is not nearly long enough if the iPhone (video) is on a tripod but the microphone (audio) is not.
That leads you to ordering a longer cord, where you soon discover: 1. The micro-B USB connector on the mike is pretty obsolete and was not commonly used in the past, so you will find very few micro-USB to Lightning cords on line. 2. When you do find one, it will not work with this mike. Apparently, Shure's design for the interface is proprietary and the only cord that will work is the short one furnished by Shure. 3. You can, however, find longer male-female Lightning extension cords. They do work with the microphone's cord, so that's what I did. 4. Don't be tempted to try using the microphone's USB-B cord (also furnished for free) and adapting that to iOS Lightning with a USB extension cord. That won't work either thanks to Shure's unique port design.
Once I solved the cord length problem, I soon noticed that Shure's cord was becoming looser at the microphone end (micro-USB), wouldn't stay securely plugged into the mike, and actually pulled out occasionally when the mike was being moved. Nothing abusive here, just routine activity, but not good during a recording session. So I just swallowed my pride, ponied up $30 (one third the cost of the mike!!), and ordered a (short 16 inch) replacement cord from Shure which I will probably tape to the microphone to make sure it stays in place.
Poor construction, on top of poor interface design choices, is not what I've come to expect from Shure. Made the overall experience with this microphone a bit disappointing.
Would this be a step up from a headset mic for a gamer? Maybe. Would I ever use it for a professional audio application? No.
Something I didn't realize until recently is that this microphone has audio pass-through. I'm not sure why this isn't touted as the greatest feature of the product, but it is. As you can see in the picture, I have my headphones plugged into the back of the microphone. This allows me to hear not only the sound from the microphone (such as myself speaking), but also the audio from the computer it's plugged into. There is also a gain knob which allows you to control the volume of the headphones. No issues with the knob, it works well (I've heard some similar gain knobs are terrible).
I have no complaints. There is a lot to love about this little affordable microphone.

Through a lot of research, we decided on this Shure microphone. Upon his first use, he was thrilled with the sound quality. His friends said that he actually sounded like himself. In addition, this microphone is incredibly portable and he takes it with him whenever he goes to a friend's. I would absolutely recommend this to others.

Initially I bought it for my daughter who has recorded some amazing tracks with it, then I bought this one for some voice over work I needed to do in a hurry and the studio was closed.
best used with a pop filter but a genuinely stunning mic, Shure software is fairly east to use but is much better with Garageband (thank you daughter) and Logicpro
In short great value, great product, use a pop filter
It does only seem to be designed work with lightning and USB devices so it’s PC, iPhone and basic iPad - but that’s it’s purpose I guess.
I’m quite happy having only paid a shade over 80 quid for it - it’s by no means the worst electret condenser about and is essentially it’s own mini audio interface to boot - the headphone out is excellent and the mic presets are not complex or hard to amend in the app.
