Good hard drive for a good price

I have a Dell E7440 Ultrabook that came with a 128Gb 6Gb/s mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD). 128Gb is enough to hold Windows 8.1 and all my installed software and apps, but it's a little too small to also hold all my documents, music, and video. The Dell E7440 has 2 hard drive trays. One holds a traditional 2.5" SATA hard drive and the other is a mSATA port. The 128 Gb mSATA SSD the laptop came with was installed in the traditional tray with a SATA to mSATA adapter. That left the mSATA port open. I was looking for a 6Gb/s mSATA SSD to fill the empty port giving me a "Data" drive to compliment my existing "System" drive.

I ordered this Premiere Pro drive based on previous reviews and the price. The install on my laptop was very easy. Two small screws to remove the bottom panel and then just plug in the mSATA drive. The drive is notched (Idiot Proofed) so you can only put it in one way. My only complaint is that the drive did not come with any hold down screws. Since my laptop did not ship with a drive in that port it did not have a screw. I had to use one from an old damaged laptop I had laying around.

The reason I wanted two drives (C: System and D: Data) was so I could move all my Windows file libraries (Desktop Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Video) from C: to D:. This helps in a scenario where your system drive crashes or becomes corrupted. You can replace, reformat and/or reinstall Windows without losing the files on your data drive. It also makes it easier to move all your files to a new machine in the future. It's simple to do. First create the library directory structure on your data drive. Then goto your system drive, right-click on a library folder, and choose properties. In the library properties window select the location tab. From the location tab click the move button. Select the path to the relevant folder on your data drive. Repeat these steps for each library you want to move.

I bought this ADATA M.2 SSD to run my Adobe CC suite software on for video and photo editing. Program start-up times are greatly reduced now and editing is also much faster now as well. My Windows 10 drive is also an ADATA SSD so through my own personal experience, I trust the ADATA brand.

My Gigabyte G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 UEFI immediately recognized this M.2 SSD. Once in Windows 10 in Disk Management, the initialization and formatting were simple, fast and a breeze to complete. I installed my Adobe CC programs and tested out both Premiere Pro and Photoshop, they loaded very fast and editing was much quicker and smoother that when I was running them on a mechanical drive (7,200 rpm).

This M.2 SSD does exactly what I purchased it for and for these reasons I am giving this product a 5 star rating.

Not fully compatible for Chromebooks (ALPM not fully supported)

Do not order as a replacement for any Chromebook will not work in the long term.
All Chromebooks use SATA Aggressive Link Power Management (ALPM) at the firmware level for maximum power savings and this SSD not fully compatible with ALPM. Drive will seem slow or cause crashes.

Fast and works perfectly right out of the box

Works perfectly in my Thinkpad X250. Read speeds are about as fast as you can get for a SATA M.2 card (PCIe/NVMe ones are much faster but not found on many laptops or motherboards yet). Looking at similar SSDs, I was concerned that the write speed would be very slow. All of the 2242 size SSDs seem slow on write speed. Happily, I got over 300MB/s write speed - plenty good enough for my laptop. If there is any downside it's that they don't offer 480/500/512GB SSDs in this smaller form factor yet.

You might need linux to format this drive for Win 10 to see it.

I own a Lenovo Winbook N22. At first I had trouble upgrading the bios. Once that was completed the bios recognized the drive but Windows 10 did not. This was because Windows expects to see a formatted drive. So I booted up linux from a USB drive and used gparted to create a ntfs partition on the drive. Worked perfectly. Rebooted into Windows and now Win 10 recognizes it. Awesome.

Great for NUC

I dropped this device into a first gen Intel NUC with a Celeron processor for duty as a dedicated XBMC machine. It was a nice upgrade over the USB stick I was using previously. The device booted with no problem and has been running solid since day one. I don't think this form factor is marketed to the high performance crowd so I don't believe hard numbers are all that important. This is an easy to install component that works well. This is highly recommended if mSATA is a requirement.

This has been a champ of a BOOT drive.

If you are looking for a boot drive to load up OS or core programs/with work files stored else where, this has worked very well. Using CrystalDisk it reads fast in excess of 500. But if you are planing on writing, it is slow for an SSD. ~150. A great BOOT drive. But I would not recommend for intensive writing above a mechanical disk drive given the cost per gig. Pair it up with a storage drive and you are set.

Did I mention...BOOOOOT DRIVE.

I replaced this one with another that died after many years. My MOBO uses this as cache for the installed hard drive. Once I purchased a hybrid drive, which uses similar technology, this cache option, even with the new mSATA drive made my system unstable, but the drive itself worked great!
