My wife and I teamed up to read this book, she read it first, then gave it over to me.We discussed the book after we both finished. Though this is not our normal genre, both of us agreed on how much we liked the story. It was fast paced, both gripping and highly enjoyable, with some excellent (didn't see that coming moments). I would definitely recommend this read.
I have downloaded another of Catherine Mede's books to read over the next few days. After my wife that is, she got to it first.

An action packed scifi romance - an adult Guardians of the galaxy. I'd love to see this story transformed into a movie. The heroine, Vyvica, struggles to keep still , she's very kinetic and used to giving the orders, so I especially liked the scene where she's confined in the pod with Kelvaras, the sexy mercenary. Good balance of fun and drama. Wendy Scott, Fantasy Author[...]

If you're looking for a Science Fiction Romance with some serious world building, this is it. Catherine Mede has envisioned a society regaining its feet after a coup d’état, with the Guards of the rightful regime forming a rebel network of spies and informers, looking for a way to throw off the interloper.
Vyvica is so driven in her quest for vengeance that she feels a little one note at the beginning, but as the story develops it becomes clear that her ferocity is a thin cover for her fears. Neither Vyvica and Kelvaras trust easily, and their slow burn of a relationship worked well and felt true to their characters.
To be honest, I was never entirely certain about how Kelvaras thought he was going to pull off working for both parties, but the plot moved along quickly enough I was willing to put that aside and enjoy the story. A good read!

I was lucky enough to be one of the author's beta readers for Shards of Ice so therefore I guess you could say I received an ARC. At first glance, I didn't think this was going to be my kind of thing. In fact, it was totally different from anything I've read before. Having said that though, I did enjoy it. The characters were very well rounded, although it took me some time to warm to Vyvica but I did, eventually!
All in all, once I'd gotten into it, the story had me hooked, and I occasionally found myself sitting on the edge of my seat. I'd definitely read more by Catherine Mede in the future.
