If your computer has HDMI and your monitor has DisplayPort, this will NOT work. They do not make a simple cable for HDMI to DisplayPort. You will need an active converter if you are hellbent on going HDMI to DisplayPort. You are better off seeing what other formats your computer outputs, or (if your monitor has VGA or DVI-D), get a different cable that goes HDMI to VGA or DVI-D.
