By Jeepest Of All on March 7, 2016 Verified Purchase I have tried the white adapter which are abundantly available from ebay and it caused my Satellite A70-S259 to lock up when formatting my 128gb Samsung msata drive during Windows 7 32 bit home premium installation. So I tried the clone method which seemed to work ok and had read speeds around 74mbps and write speeds around 69mbps. Then when it came to restarting the laptop it would lock up again but this time at the windows boot logo. Doing some more research I found that the generic white ebay adapters typically have the JMicron chipset in them which causes a lot of compatibility in issues between certain laptops and msata drives. One person from a forum recommended to purchase an adapter that has the Marvell chipset which this adapter does have. This adapter is pretty much identical the Aleratec version but sold out cause I waited too long to make a decision whether to invest into an old laptop. Thankfully this Ableconn's version worked out PERFECTLY and fit like a glove in my Toshiba! Windows installed fast and without a hitch! Now I'm getting 94mpbs and 77mbps writes speeds! Boot times are just over 15 seconds, outstanding! Boot time with the original IDE 60gb 4200 rpm hard drive was around 1 1/2 minutes. Get yours today as I worry about if these great adapters will be eventually be phased out as old technology relics of the past have. Was shipped quickly but unfortunately USPS decided to throw the packaged envelope on my front lawn and was buried underneath a few inches of snow from a storm that just rolled through that same day. Couldn't find it until 2 days later with a flashlight but obviously wasn't Ableconn's fault just the delivery person must have had a bad day I guess. As usual, Amazon delivered right on time, and I had the drive installed 20 minutes later (MSI sure does have a lot of screws holding their laptops together!). After quickly cloning my primary drive over to this one, it was ready for use. ,371 First thing I did was download and install the free Samsung Magician software (which as of version 4.6 now recognizes this drive as a Samsung drive) and ran a benchmark. Here are the results: Sequential Read: 549 MB/s Sequential Write: 523 MB/s Random Read (IOPs): 97,371 Random Write (IOPs): 86,219 Then, I used the Samsung Magician software to enable RAPID mode. For those unfamiliar with RAPID, it is an acronym for Real-time Accelerated Processing of I/O Data and was first introduced with the 840 EVO series of drives. This feature has since been updated to v2.1 for this drive/version of Samsung Magician 4.6. In short, what it does is use up to 25% of your extra system RAM (up to 4GB maximum if you have 16GB+ of system RAM) and use it as a cache for your drive to improve the already blazing fast performance. This is completely automated and does help overall system performance, especially with commonly used applications as the software will cache them automatically for faster load times and decreased latency. I had tried another KingSpec PATA SSD and it did work, however it had trouble with master/slave which meant it was either a CD/DVD drive or the SSD. With this Transcend one I was able to use both (with this one in Master mode). At least with the PowerBook G4, using this SSD I can max out the transfer rate of the DMA level it supports. So it is almost nearly theoretical maximum, but not quite. So I would recommend this one if you have an older laptop and there is no possible way you can cram a SATA to PATA adapter and a SATA SSD in your system. If you're reading this you already know that upgrading to an SSD is the single best thing you can do to improve the performance of your computer. I hadn't thought that there were any SSD options available for older computers with PATA/IDE interfaces until a chance search turned up this item (and another seemingly identical one under a different brand). I was skeptical because I had never heard of the brand or any adapter like this before, but thought it was worth a try to breathe new life to my Thinkpad T42.

Simply put, it works perfectly. No drivers, no headaches--pop in the mSATA drive (I used a 120GB Kingston from Amazon), put it in the computer, and it simply works, recognized exactly like a standard mechanical drive. While the computer is still not a rocket it is now quite usable for basic tasks. It is such a relief not to wait for that flashing hard drive light. For what it's worth the Windows Experience Index rating in Windows 7 now gives my HDD a 5.3--not as fast as the 7.5 in my more modern laptop, but a vast improvement nonetheless. I could not recommend this enough.

A nice 44-pin PATA to mSATA adapter

Good for revving up old machines.

Works great in a Powerbook G4 to put in a much bigger and faster SSD in rather than installing an old and slow 320GB PATA drive. While you can only go as fast as the bandwidth of the old PATA connection, it does make an improved snappiness on launching apps and brings some new life into an old machine.

Yes, I took a Dell Insprion 600m (many years old) and put this in. It required a small mSATA (NOT SATA) drive. No real problems except the expected. Had to reinstall Win 7 from scratch as I couldn't get disk clone to boot (Macrium free version). Performance is quite good for a computer with a CPU speed about 1/20 the desktop I'm now writing on... Quite a boost in boot speed, application speed, etc. Well worth it if you have a computer with sentimental attachments.

Nice inexpensive upgrade for an ancient HP laptop running Windows XP

Used this to replace an ancient 80GB PATA hard disk in a HP DV8000 Pavillion laptop running Windows XP with a Samsung 120GB mSATA SSD. The speed of disk operations is doubled, making boot and program load times significantly better. The laptop isn't a speed demon now by any means, but it has become at least as useful as a ChromeBook, and has a big 17 inch screen and nice speakers.

It works as expected, IDE is a limiting factor, plus only 2gb of ram and 32 bit windows 7. It would be best to have a newer system with at least SATA 6GB/s support to get the most out of the Samsung 850 EVO I put in the HP zv6015us laptop. Windows 10 Pro 32 also tested on it and it is still too sluggish, Edge runs horribly, and Solitaire games too slow.
