Great Device For When You Need Multiple HDMI Ports

We have a mounted TV in our bedroom which only has one HDMI port (it's not a Smart TV). We watch Netflix a lot and purchased the Amazon Fire TV Stick. But the Fire TV Stick required an HDMI port, and the one on the back of our TV was already occupied. So after reading the reviews on Amazon, I bought this HDMI splitter in order to connect the Fire TV Stick. I plugged the HDMI cable from this device into the HDMI slot in the back of our TV. Then I plugged the HDMI cable that was originally plugged into the TV into one of the three HDMI slots on this device. I plugged the HDMI cable from the Fire TV Stick into another one of the 3 HDMI slots. And now I'm able to view our TV and switch over to Netflix from the Amazon Fire TV Stick.

In order to switch between devices, there's a small button on the top part of this device that you press. There's a red light which lights up on the device that's currently active. You have to press the button manually to switch between the devices. I wish there was a remote so I could switch without getting out of bed, but it's not a major issue since we're either watching TV or Netflix and don't go back and forth much.

I know some people said it doesn't work or gives off a bad signal, but I haven't experienced anything like that. I've had this a little over a month. There's no installation required. You simply plug in the splitter and it's ready to go. I have the cable bent so that way it stays hidden behind the TV. So far the durability of the cable has been good. It doesn't distort the video and both devices work as normal. This HDMI splitter does the job for which I bought it for, so I'm happy with the purchase.

Don't waste money elsewhere- get this switch!

I bought a different HDMI switch off amazon, thinking they were probably all pretty much the same. I couldn't have been more wrong. The first switch seemed like it might work at first. Then after just a few minutes either picture or sound would stop working, it was like I could only have picture or sound, not both. I had to jiggle the wire into the perfect place to get it to work. After telling amazon it was faulty, they said just to keep it, so I gave it another chance since it was free at that point, but it just wouldn't work. After 20 minutes of jiggling it went into the trash.

Then, I came here and bought the Kinps HDMI Switch and I'm glad I did. The item works flawlessly, and I can very easily switch between watching my regular cable box and my amazon fire stick. It took mere seconds to set up, and has been working perfectly without issue since it arrived. If you need a 3 port switch, this is the one to buy.

It works for what we needed, but I had a couple of problems with it.

I ordered this cable because we had too many HDMI devices and not enough input ports on our TV.

This thing does work great - whichever device is powered up is the one that it shows on the TV.

But I have two problems with it:

First, it's heavy. Our TV hangs on the wall, and this thing hangs down and if it's not supported on, say, a dressed or something, it will unplug itself, just due to the weight.

Second, it has a bright red LED light, which isn't ideal in a bedroom. No matter where we put this thing, it adds light or makes a wall glow. We're going to try covering it with electrical tape, but it's worth noting that this is a thing you'll have to contend with if you're using this device in a bedroom.

Yeah, I know sometimes you receive a defective unit, but it's an inconvenience and a hassle. This thing didn't work at all, whether I had a single device plugged into it, or three devices (DVR, Blu-ray player, and Apple TV). Its red LED lit up, but it did nothing. My TV consistently showed the "No signal" alert, and the screen was dark. When these devices are plugged directly into the TV, the video displays on the screen with no problems, so obviously, this HDMI switch is defective.

I returned it, and won't be buying another one.

1/15/17 update: after I wrote this one-star review, the seller contacted me and offered to replace the defective unit, but I had already decided to buy a different HDMI switch. It appears that seller is conscientious about taking care of unhappy customers, and I wrote a favorable review of the seller, based on customer service, even though I wasn't happy with their quality control.

Unreliable and random.

Took me only a few hours to give up on this. Very inconsistent behavior, too unreliable. Sometimes switches hdmi inputs, other times screen goes blank. My devices work fine when connected to TV directly, but weird behavior when using this switch. I'm very suspicious at all the positive reviews now.

I like this switch a lot

I like this switch a lot, more than the 5 port remote one ( but if you need more than 3 ports, then you're stuck with the 5 port remote one ). I like that I can manually "force" the change in the input regardless if the thing "thinks" something is transmitting data or not. That's the problem with the 5 port one, I have Amazon Fire TV plugged into it and it goes to "sleep" and then it won't let me change to that input! Ugh, frustrating. Outside of the Amazon Fire thing, the 5 port with remote is very good at everything else, changing on it's own based on what it's detecting ( blu ray, xbox, wii u ). But I still like having the control to pick the input I want and I don't change inputs often so it's not an issue for me to manually click the button on the back of this thing. Good quality, appears sturdy.
