A Spine-chilling Apoclyptic Thriller you'll be hard-pressed to find better

Mason, as his friends call him, is a very skeptical, rational man. He has lost his faith in humanity, and that could mainly be due to his lost love, Beck. He’s on his way back from vacation, one that was supposed to be with Beck, on a flight that is too much time for his liking. He fell asleep and woke up to an unforeseeable nightmare for everyone, including the pilot and co-pilot have been rendered blind. Though, with his help, the plan is able to land without a hitch. But something isn’t right, and Mason can’t quite put his finger on it. However, he still has a week let of vacation time, and he decides to go home and lock himself away from the world for the rest of the luxury time he has.
When he finally has to go back to work, he finds the world he wants so desperately to get away from has gone to hell in a handbasket and the fight for survival is on. Though scared and in a state of disbelieving, Mason gets through some sticky situations. While he’s not the type to care about other people, when he finds a little red-headed, big green-eyed girl, about the age of ten, his heart is turned around. The irony is the world he really didn’t care for, has now become a place he no longer recognized. But this little, seemly frail, survivor is able to capture his heart within a half a day. The two need one another and become more like family than acquaintances. Little Mackenzie (Mack) is blind. Mace, as she calls Mason, believes she has been infected with the sickness that has turned the world into a living hell, but he can’t leave her and, to be honest, he doesn’t want to. What will happen when these two unlikely friends set off to find Mack’s Aunt Sarah in a world of people who have become savage, vile, shells of who they once were?
Ken Stark has created a spine-chilling thriller that embraces both the fear and suspense within the reader but also strikes their compassion and sensitive side. He has created relatable characters that take his reader’s a new height of experience. It’s more than just experiencing a good horror/thrill story, but become enthralled and part of that story. Your pulse will accelerate, your heart will race, and, at times, your eyes will fight to keep a tear from falling. You will be hard-pressed to find a better story for this particular genus of story

Intense, zombie novel that'll keep you flipping the pages.

As a mega fan of anything zombie, I was eager to jump into Stage 3. The cover caught my attention, the synopsis, which reads pretty much like most zombie books, was interesting enough for me to plunge in.
The story kicks off with the main character Mason on his flight home from vacation. After a few drinks, he dosed off only to wake to find things not right. Everyone is blind, including the pilots. With guidance from the sightless pilots, he lands the plane safely. Resting at the bar, he catches a glimpse of the gentleman who sat next to him on the plane take a bite from paramedic. Thinking nothing of it, he heads home and secludes himself from the outside world. A week later he emerges to find the world has gone to hell. He meets up with MacKenzie, a young blind girl trying to find her Aunt. With rebar in hand, he and MacKenzie fight through streets, sewers, and hospitals to get to a Red Cross center.
From the outset, Stage 3 hits the ground running and doesn't finish until the last page. Nearly every chapter is filled with zombie head bashing, though, while enjoyable, does get to be repetitive. I really liked Masons development throughout the book, especially after he meets MacKenzie. The chemistry between the two seemed real and you felt yourself pulling for them.
The writing was simple and well done with very few hiccups. Stage 3 does follow the typical, must get from point A to point B formula, but Stark does it in a way that pulls you in and forces you to keep turning the pages.

OUTSTANDING, GRIPPING, AND EPIC BOOK!

From the start to the end, this book kept me engaged, invested in the characters. Rooting for them to survive, waiting on every turn to see what happens. It was gripping, raw, energetic, on the edge of your seat kind of book that deserves a second read.

The story is vastly different from your typical zombie genre, this was scary, more realistic and had a sense of urgency about it that keeps you reading.

I admit I didn’t like Mason in the beginning, thought he was an arrogant drunk. Boy was a I wrong. I fell in love with him throughout the book and can only hope that he and his little companion make it. I really hope they find Aunt Sarah too.

I don’t wish to give any spoilers away, so I’m going to end this review by saying, I not only highly recommend this book, but I insist you get it. You won’t regret it. You will have sleepless nights, not from the fear of the story, but from the need to finish reading it.

I hope Ken Stark rolls book two out sooner, rather than later. I’m really going to be hanging out to discover what happens to Mason and Mackenzie.
On a side note, the author delivers a ‘free sample story’ at the end, to give you a taste of another story, which is just as gripping as Stage 3.
