Rrr (Recoil Reducing Rail)Gamo, pioneering the latest in gun technology, delivers the groundbreaking Triple R. Developed to subdue the taxing stresses placed on your scope from the intense recoil of air guns and high-powered rifles. The Recoil Reducing Rail uses, patent pending, two-piece aluminum construction separated by dual polymer struts to absorb the shockwaves generated by the recoil. Once mounted to the Recoil Reducing Rail, the recoil stresses to internal components of the scope are reduced by almost 100%. |
Igt (Inert Gas Technology) Mach 1Gamo launches forward with their latest propulsion system – the IGT MACH1. Based off the groundbreaking IGT platform, the MACH 1 replaces the standard spring powerplant with an Inert Gas Cylinder. But the IGT Mach 1’s monster 33 millimeter cylinder delivers more Velocity and Terminal Penetration. Not to mention smooth and consistent cocking efforts with contact power delivered to any pellet you fire. If you want: More Precision, Less Vibration, And True Knock Down Power make sure your next Gamo has the IGT MACH 1 inside. |
Cat (Custom Action Trigger)Gamo air file owners are now able to independently adjust the 1st and second stages of their trigger. Simply loosen the 1st stage adjustment screw and the trigger travel increases. If a shorter travel length is desired just tighten the same screw to decrease the 1st Stage travel length. The 2nd Stage Adjustment is made just as easily - unscrew the adjustment setting to increase the 2nd Stage travel length or decrease it by screwing in the same adjustment point. |

I have an older Gamo Whisper Silent Cat in .177, that is deadly accurate out to 60 yds. But it breaks springs. But because it is so accurate, I get fixed each time. The other gun is an Umarex Octane. 22. That gun has been factory replaced four times in less than two years. In MY opinion all the Umarex guns I have had have manufacturing deficiencies, which is the reason I bought this one.
For now, this Gamo Magnum .22 is pretty awesome, but it has a few minor issues to be aware of.
I fired right at 500 rounds through mine while at deer camp. Not at deer okay!
Here is what I know. Cocking the gun is much harder than my others. It is very accurate. It's light weight makes it easy and a pleasure to carry. The trigger is pretty darn good right out of the box. I haven't messed with it yet.
The scope is OK, but I will be mounting a 30mm, 4-16x56 mil-dot as soon as I find the right rings.
The iron sights were great and dead on. I noticed on the scope that the windage turret was turned all the way in, left windage, and several full turns up on the elevation turret. Evidently they sighted it in at the factory. So it has serious barrel droop. Not uncommon in these guns, they all have it but this was a bit more than my other guns. I centered the erector tube in the scope by counting clicks, fired a few rounds, then using a free phone app I shimmed the scope to the target. After that I fired away until my arm hurt. All the screws loosened except those on the new recoil reducing rail (awesome) and needed attention but it wasn't a problem. I'll be putting one of those rails on my other Gamo.
I will be stopping at an airgun store to find compensating rings in a few days. And then we'll find out what the gun can really do.
I fired Crosman Premier Hp 14.3 grain pellets from Wal-Mart almost exclusively and the ground squirrels where I am from are in serious jeopardy using this round. I confidently hit squirrel sized targets beyond 75 yards.
My F1-Chrony measured my muzzle velocity with these pellets at 865, to 895 fps. I'll be checking this again to see if anything changes.
The machine work is all very well done, and quite frankly, for now, I am proud to own one of these guns.
Oh! I almost forgot. I ordered my gun through Amazon, two day delivery. It was on time, but in a box six times bigger than it should have been. Both the actual gun box with all the goodies, and the scope box inside were pretty beat up. The Styrofoam packing broken and mashed. But the gun itself seems unharmed.
Also there was no packing list included. The box had my name and the UPS shipping label only.
This is an Amazon thing and I contacted them. Got an apology, and the data where I can download my ordering information, so I am good.
That's it for now. I haven't really down and dirty tested this gun in what will be it's final configuration, but it sure looks good for now.
UPDATE:
I'm still using this rifle and I still really like it. Last spring I used it to remove pests in ranchers pastures, shooting as many as 500 rounds of Crosman Premier Hollow point 14.3 grain pellets a day. The gun is topped with a Leapers UTG 4-16x56 etched glass 30mm SWAT scope supported by a droop compensating mount and rings. Velocities are now 950+ fps with a clean barrel. I recently mounted a picatinny rail under the forestock for clamping a bipod on. Accuracy increased by at least 50%. One note of caution is to clean the barrel often. The softer Crosman pellets strip off a little lead each shot which builds up about two inches in from the breach. The Gamo tech's told me a bronze bore brush, and a bore snake will not hurt these barrels if needed for cleaning.
I liked this gun so much I also bought the .177 version. I mounted a Leapers 4-16x40 UTG, 1 inch tube, True Hunter AO scope on a UTG 11mm to Weaver, picatinny rail using the new Weaver windage adjustable, all steel rings.
This gun pushes Crosman Premier 7.9gr HP pellets at 1154 fps, and shoots tight little groups out to 35 yds. But that ammo leads up the barrel within 30 to 40 rounds. I am now testing other, harder alloy ammunition. This gun is also a keeper for me.
Was able to take it out today to get it sighted in. Brought the following pellets:
- Crosman Premier Hollow Point 14.3 gr
- H&N Barracuda Hunter Extreme 18.52 gr
- Gamo Red Fire 15.4 gr (I believe)
Setup a target at 63 yrds ~ and immediately hit a 2 1/4" spread without any sighting, using the Premier HPs. Very impressed. After a basic sighting and maybe 30 shots playing around swapping around ammo, did a 5-shot group test with all 3 pellets. The results were actually quite surprising!
The Gamo Red Fire were the best rated and most popular pellets for this rifle based on tons of Amazon, YouTube and random forum reviews, but they had the largest spread of the 3 for me. May be because I haven't broken it in enough yet, or maybe it was the longer range, not sure, but they gave me a wild 5 1/4 spread. The closest 2 were 5/8 apart!
2nd place were the Barracuda pellets with a 2 7/8 spread, closest being 3/4 on the money. They're a lot heavier than the other 2 so was pretty happy with that.
Best grouping of the 3 were the cheapest ones, the Premiere HP. Excluding 1 stray (2 5/8) 4 pellets hit an even 1" spread at 63 yards and 2 went in the same hole!
As I said, I'm not really broken in or fully sighted in yet, and I've only ran maybe 45 rounds through, so take this review for what it's worth, but so far I'm very happy.
As others have said, it's very powerful and breaking the barrel isn't very easy, but it gets easier as you get used to it. I found it easiest to lay the butt of the stock on my weak side thigh with the scope facing out and up slightly and pulling in toward my gut from near the very end of the barrel. Other than that, everything else is pretty straight forward. Good luck!
