Customer like our wires

  1. These wires are pretty great, and wonderful to work with in PC-related rewiring or wire-extension works due to the thickness of the core and the heat resistant nature of the silicone insulation.
  2. These are high quality silicon insulated wires. It is important because during soldering they don't burn like PVC insulation. These wires are the best for the soldering prototyping board - flexible, low impedance and not burned insulation. Deal is good too. Don;t confuse this set with one which has PVC insulation. It is important because during soldering they don't burn like PVC insulation.

The goal is to prevent entanglement between spools wires while you use them. If not doing it right it is even hard to place spools in box because wires get entangled .1. before putting spools in the box place sticky tape on the top of each spool to prevent entanglement while setting up (picture 1)2. after putting spools in the box, drive wires through the respective holes according to the color, then prepare a folded piece of carton to place on the top of the spools3. now you can remove tapes from spools, place folded carton on the top to keep spools pressed and wires kept in the spools and fully close the box (picture 2)4. tape the flap of the box as shown on my pictures and end of the wires are waiting to be pulled. I got this wire because the 40 year old solid core 30ga wire-wrap wire I had on hand was not suitable to use for hacking my Kindle. It. broke. too. easily. Plus, the only color I had was yellow. tl;dr: I am not disappointed once I made a few adjustments.

I have stripped a couple of these wires using my 40 year old wire-wrap wire stripper. The last image will hopefully show that, yes indeed, this is 30gs stranded wire. I suspect they drew the wire through a mosquito's mouth. I could not find anything online today that even vaguely resembles my stripper. I did not look only on Amazon. I looked online. In spite of having gazillions of products, Amazon doesn't have everything. My one-stop shopping experience has been irrevocably ruined! Gee, thanks Amazon.

You can see the stripper I use in the last picture I've posted with this review. 40 years ago it was the most expensive tool I owned.

I do, though I've not tested it, have a wire-wrap tool very similar to this JDV Products HSR30 Tool, Wire, Wrap/Unwrap Strip, Regular with which I have successfully stripped 30ga solid core wire in the past. OK, the way way past.

Pros:
- The wire is stranded and very flexible. It almost couldn't be more flexible if it was thread. Pleased and impressed by this.
- It came in a decently designed, functional, and sturdy box. For storage and dispensing I cannot stress how helpful this is and will be.
- The box has a cross dowel that keeps the reels of wire off the bottom of the box allowing for easier dispensing without binding.
- There are holes for the wire to come out. You don't have to take the reel out of the box.

Cons:
- The picture lies! The holes for the wires to come out are not in the bottom third of the box. They're in the top third. Facts are important!bought. eople! 9-)
- While the box the reels of wire came in is designed to use to dispense the wire, there is nothing to provide tension during the dispensing of the wire. Obviously too much tension will stretch or break the wire which would not be helpful. A thin bit of foam rubber on the underside of the lis which closes down on the reels might do the trick. Alas, I'm stuck trying a different approach.

To fix the tension issue, to help keep the wires from becoming too loose on their respective reels, and to help chaperone the wires to stay one only their own reels I did two things.

First, I glued a strip of VELCRO Brand One Wrap Thin Ties, Black, 8 x 1/2-Inch, 100 Count (91140), hook-side to the box. A second strip, just a tad longer, covers hooks to the glued strip thereby holding the wires flush to the box.

Second, I cut the corner off a bit of cardboard and placed it between the back of the box and the wire reels. A picture is provided to help those, like me, who have impaired imaginations. Note, the bend of the corner is in the middle. My hope is that this cardboard insert will suffice in providing enough tension; however, of course, not too much tension.

I needed a fine thin flexible wire to repair broken wires in a Buzz Lightyear toy. There were 2 bonded wires in the wings which retract. Both sides failed in the same manner. After arduous task of splitting wing tips apart (solvent welded, it seems), I was able to run new wires, and solder them. The silicone was a bit thicker than I was hoping for, but it worked out for me. This seems like nice wire. The insulation stripped cleanly with just two light cuts on opposing sides and a tug. It's nice a flexible. It soldered very well. I recommend it. My only noteable potential negative is insulation was a bit thick for 30AWG, in terms of fitting within small projects. I definitely recommend it. I wish it had included white color in with red, green, black, instead of sky blue, but that's a preference thing, for sure. Useful cardboard box for dispensing and organizing. Buzz has lasted 2 weeks now. Hope he continues to fair well.

I use this gauge (gage) wire for electronic projects for my model railroad. It has good electrical characteristics, the silicon insulation is suited to the wire and strips easily. Pre-tinning makes soldering a joy. I am very happy with it and when it is used up, I'll purchase more. I gave it 5 stars for the wire itself.

The box is another matter but it doesn't harm the wire's rating. They should put "Assembly Required" in their advertising. You must remove each spool to undo the knot placed on the wire to hold them together after being wound. I wound up removing all the spools at once. I wish I had thought of securing each spool with tape as another reviewer suggests. DUH. Then you must thread each wire through its hole in the box- not difficult but it is tedious. Don't forget to remove the punched out shard that's in the way. Kind of like Florida elections gone by. If you want to use the exit holes that don't get covered up by the box flap, those are the wrong color and don't match the wire colors. If you use the correctly colored holes, you will have to raise the box flap for each use. Doing this, after adding additional cardboard under the box lid to "tension" the spools as that same reviewer suggests. Of course raising the flap takes all "tension" off of the spools and exposes the open box and spools inviting tangles galore. It's not quantum science, but it could be a project. BTW, what in the world are the two supplied zip-ties for? Thanks for letting me rant. I like the wire a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, fair price. But makes a real spaghetti inside the box.
Reviewed in Canada on December 18, 2017
Size: 18AWGColor: Silicone wire Box1=Red+Blue+Green+Yellow+BlackVerified Purchase
In 2017 I bought the 18AWG box. Really smaller than what it looks on the picture. So small that I really wonder if there is really 17 ft. of length of each color. I will have to check that. The plastic reels are way too small, the wires aleays go off their respective reel and then it makes a big spaghetti inside the box. A bit too expensive for what it is.

UPDATE JULY 2018 : I needed 22AWG silicone wires and couldn't find a better alternative here on Amazon, so I bough this product again (22AWG this time). The quality is good and the price is fair, but the delivery system is still disastrous!

- Real silicone wires : I can put my soldering iron at 450 degrees on the insulation and it doesn't even make a mark
- Advertised as 20 feet of wire for each color (22AWG) : I took out the yellow roll and measured and it was really 20 feet long

Same problem as with my first purchase the 18AWG box. The wires are on plastic rolls and there's a small wooden rod inside the allow the plastic rolls to spin. Forget about that!!! All the rolls are constantly spinning on their own as you pull one wire out of the box and it makes a huge mess in the box. All the wires then become loose in the box and they wrap over the next rolls.

I change my review from 3/5 to 4/5 because :

1) I cannot find any better alternative here on Amazon
2) I find a way to solve that delivery problem : Take out the wooden rod inside the box, then the rolls aren't able to spin freely on their own anymore but I'm still able to pull the wires easily out of the box

Price is right but colors are way off. Red wire is actually orange and blue is more like baby blue. On the positive, wire strippers not needed as you can use your finger nail, on the downside, you can strip it with a fingernail. Will be ok for my application as a signal carrying wire but I wouldn't trust it with any significant constant current (while considering the gauge)
