Product Description

Includes 1x RTL-SDR Blog Broadcast FM Band-Stop Filter and 1x SMA male to SMA male adapter.

Blocks the broadcast FM band between 88 – 108 MHz with over 50dB of attenuation. Designed for RX use only.

Insertion loss is less than 0.5 dB between 0 – 1 GHz, and mostly less than 1.5 dB between 1 – 3 GHz. Uses
SMA female connectors. Comes with a free SMA male to SMA male adapter.

A broadcast FM block filter can help if you have very strong broadcasts in your area that are overloading the SDR dongle. Also known as an “FM Trap”.

TV installers please read and pay very close attention to the following: This is probably not the right product for you. These filters are designed for software defined radio and radio scanner users. The filter uses SMA connectors. SMA connectors are very common in the professional RF world, but are NOT commonly used in home TV installations. TV installs normally use F-TYPE or PAL connectors. So this filter will not fit onto F-TYPE or PAL connectors which are common in the TV world without the use of an adapter, which is not supplied.

It works!!!
I have a Boafeng UV-5R series radio I was beginning to regret buying. Not that it's expensive but being new to this, I jumped in and bought a bunch of Baofeng accessories that I don't want to return. Come to find out the Boafeng's get easily overloaded on the front end and with any upgraded antenna it's been useless - cuts out or receives nothing. Based on reading and a guess, I ordered this and with a Nagoya 771 antenna it's working right out of the box! In fact, it works better with the stock antenna too. It's apparently reducing the overall SWR enough to allow the Boafeng to function. If you're having similar issues with any of the more inexpensive HAM or GMRS HT's, I recommend this filter.

Man, this thing is tiny. But it does the job and that's all that matters. I'm using it with an SDRplay RSP-1 instead of an RTL-SDR dongle, but the connectors are the same so it's a direct-fit to the radio's antenna connection. Including the little "jumper" to mate both male SMA connectors is a welcome addition. I can attest that it does indeed cut FM reception significantly between 88-108 MHz. I'm only about 12 air miles from multiple 100 kW broadcasters, and just 1,500 feet from a 250 watt FM translator on an AM stick near my neighborhood. This filter reduces the 100 kW stations down to next to nothing even with the SDRplay's low noise amp engaged. The translator still blasts through, which is to be expected, but most importantly it's no longer mixing with other big signals and polluting the 200-430 MHz band range anymore like they did before. Excellent! Now I can listen to UHF air band and everything around it without being overwhelmed by wideband FM broadcast signals.

I live 2 miles away from (and in actual line of sight of) a 50 kW FM station, and no fewer than 2 other smaller transmitters. The 50kW station was coming in at -8 dBFS. Trying to receive P25 public safety radio with my two RTL-SDRs mostly worked, but it was clear that the front end of the SDRs was being overloaded by the FM station(s). Installing these units significantly improved the noise floor, and has helped P25 reception.

I was skeptical, but the reviews were good and the price was reasonable, so I ordered one. Am I glad I did. This tiny filter easily installed right at the Uniden Home Patrol SMA input connector and because they give you an adaptor, it easily will go right in line with your existing SMA cable. I primarily listen to the Air Band (aircraft and airports). The FM Broadcast band is very close and those stations are very powerful, which can desensitize your receiver. I am located near several FM broadcast towers (within 2 miles), and my airband reception on the scanner was always substandard. Add to that my location is in a "shadow" of a small mountain between me and SD Airport.

So, I put it in line and immediately I picked up the San Diego Airport ATIS frequency which I could not hear at all before. They old rule is if you can't hear the ATIS, you can't hear the tower since they broadcast from the same spot. Needless to say, the tower now came in too along with ground control. This was an amazing improvement without having to add any amplifier to my antenna. All airborne aircraft now came in loud and clear, when before there was some hiss static. Great product, small size, very reasonable price. I will probably order another for use in my car. Reception across the board was improved in all frequencies for the scanner.

Pay a bit more money and buy a filter that works! I fitted this between a 50mhz beam antenna and a receiver to remove the FM broadcast band interference. As you can see from the 2 photos, it works a treat! Oh, the actual signal levels indicated are not as per real life as RF attenuators are fitted in circuit?
