Legendary skateboarder Rick McCrank goes on a journey exploring abandoned places with the people who love them long after the lights have gone out. Abandoned pays tribute to these modern day ruins, seemingly lost and forgotten, but not by everyone.
I was looking through out cable menu. I saw a show called Abandoned. I read what it was about and recorded two episodes. Here are my thoughts.
WOW! Haha What an interesting, fact giving show this is. I am so into this show. You have a guy going around, checking out a bunch of places that have been abandoned. Each have their own reasons. But, you learn all about what the place was. What made it stop existing as it was designed for and what it is now. If you like learning history or science, this show is 100% for you.
The great thing about this show, is that the host, does not seem like a brain. You never hear confusing stuff, that you do not understand. He is just like a guy, who goes to places, learns about them and tells you, in a very easy to understand and entertaining way. It all just flows, like water in a stream. They don’t try to many things. The show is simple. You see and you learn. Also, you get to see the dude skating. Haha I think that is a fun thing. It gives your mind something different. Thus, not bogging it down with facts.
This is one of the most interesting shows I have ever watched. I set the series to record on my DVR. Also, I will have to buy the season digitally. Great show. I hope it continues.
I fell in love with this show! Rick McCrank does an excellent job of pointing out where we have failed these locations and the residents who lived (or still live) there without sounding condescending or accusing. He states the facts of the matter, which is sufficient for me, at least, to feel ashamed of the collective American failure in abandoning the people who live around these deserted locations. It brings to light a very sad and often tragic characteristic...we, as Americans, do not like to face our failures and mistakes. So we just...walk away. And leave the mess for "someone else" to deal with. I waited for each new episode eagerly, and when I saw it was recorded, I immediately watched, knowing Rick and his crew would teach me something important, moving and interesting. Highly recommend Season 1 and am praying for the show to be renewed and for Season 2 to be available ASAP. Thanks, Vice network and Rick McCrank for your excellent work! My son is a boarder and a fan of Rick's and I truly enjoy how he finds the boarders in the area and highlights anything they have done to contribute to renewal/re-use of these locations.
