- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2023This is an indispensable tool for me now. Set "Effect" to max and "Dry" to zero. Highly recommend using it in stereo. Has made recording guitar doubles painless and even fun. Looking forward to using this live, with a rig set on either side of the stage (for stereo imaging separation).
GearNuts took care of me. There was a shipping issue with the order. They did the right thing and sent me a second unit. Customer service was great. I highly recommend them as a company.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2018"Live" simulated double tracking is tricky, and this isn't quite there -- but it's highly usable. I play in a metal band, and I'm the only guitar player, so I run a stereo rig and put the cabinets at the far sides of the stage whenever possible to get the biggest soundstage I can, and some of that "Glen and KK" vibe. Still, a stereo rig by itself falls far short of doubling, and that's where the Mimiq comes in: it adds very small variations in pitch and timing to simulate the effect of a doubled track, or of two guitarists in unison. It's not completely dissimilar to a chorus with a verrrrry slow rate, but there's no "shimmer" like a chorus and that's not really what it is: it gives (as far as I can tell) a very small, fixed amount of detuning on one side, and a very small amount of delay. Maybe there's some subtle EQ to counteract the perceived volume difference between sides that you get when you have a tiny, asymmetric delay -- just guessing here. However it does it, it provides a fair illusion of two guitarists playing in unison.
For some things I use it for -- big stereo riffing, majestic sympho-metal power chords, crystal-clear cleans -- it's pretty good. For other things, like high-gain leads, the effect comes across more ike a tinny reverb (a super-short delay). I run it in the effects loop of my Fractal AX8, and only use it in the patches where it suits. Pretty happy with the result, and I get questions about the big soundstage at gigs (all from guitarists).
If you use it, get a power supply: a brand-new 9V battery will last about 45 minutes if you're lucky.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2019Fantastic pedal. It is everything I needed. Will cut my writing time by a 1/3 and allow me to focus on other parts of song writing rather than double tracking. Huge time saver!! Sounds amazing like all TC Electronic gear does. If you get one make sure you run in stereo. That's that way it was intended and how it works best. Cheers!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2019If you are trying to double track your guitar or bass, just do yourelf a favor and get this thing. It is a very simple application, but it is a very effective tool, especially if you're a bedroom musician who is trying to get their music to sound bigger.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2017While ok in mono, stereo is unbelievable. Sounded like 3 guitars, duh. Yeah, that's what it's supposed to do, I know. But it does it well and while lugging an extra amp around sucks, it's well worth it. I normally use tube amps but picked up a small SS for the stereo effect. Cool!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2016I started playing rhythm guitar in a metal band and I wanted to sound bigger. As a hobbyist recording engineer I generally do this with bands by having them double, triple, and even quadruple track in some cases. I figured some pedal out there could do it so I started looking through reviews and was disappointed to find most automatic double trackers were being used for lighter/less distorted music- or at least in reviews. I think I saw one heavy guitar using the mimiq and I figured I should give it a shot.
I didn't have my guitar amps at home, so I used amplitube and ran a single guitar into the pedal and each out into a different channel with slightly different amp settings. I was pretty impressed with the results. You can certainly get away with using the mimiq hard panned to make a great sounding demo. You could probably do it for a full recording, but few self respecting producers would let that occur.
Finally got it set up to use live- the point off is that this thing works kind of like an ABY pedal but it's lacking a ground lift switch, so there was a much bigger hum than should be around. I'm hoping to rectify that this week by running the mimiq into a radial aby with a ground lift (or vice versa) and then on to the heads. Beyond that, it sounds like another guitar player was playing exactly what I was and really helped to fill things out. If you're running a 2 amp setup, you should definitely give it a spin.
Overall, disappointed in the grounding issue.hum, but SUPER stoked on how it sounds- especially at high gain on the amplifier side.

RubénReviewed in Spain on July 20, 20245.0 out of 5 stars Increíble e indispensable
