    Good, but not great.
Generally speaking this has been a fun camera to use, but there are are caveats.First, the good:The camera is easy to use. It's compact and the image quality is pretty good for the price point. You will notice some chromatic aberration, and the images can look a bit grainy or pixelated when viewed on a large computer screen. But overall the images look really good when viewed on an iPhone or tablet. The ability to pan around 360 images and also create fisheye style renderings is pretty cool. Now the bad:My biggest gripe is the inclusion of plastic lenses instead of glass. The plastic scratches easily and I now have a gouge on one of the lenses that leaves a blurry smudge on every picture.Another frustration is the rather finicky taste for USB chargers that the device has; for reasons I haven't been able to determine, only some of my universal 2A will actually charge the camera. I routinely charge an array of devices (iPhones/iPads, GoPro cameras, Bluetooth speakers & headphones, flashlights, etc) with the same couple of chargers and they are all interchangeable. Yet for some reason the camera will not take a charge from these chargers, despite their universal compatibility with every other USB device in my house.A final gripe is the inconsistent nature of how the camera connects to the iPhone through WiFi. The range is quite limited, so it's easy to lose contact if I walk away from the camera with my phone (while camera is on a tripod, for example). That itself is understandable, but the problem is that even though the phone will automatically reconnect to the camera's WiFi, the app will not recognize the connection so the only way to get it going again is to completely quit and then restart the app. This is terrible coding on the part of the developer, requiring the app to closed and restarted every single time the WiFi connection is dropped.Overall I've enjoyed using the camera and I think it's a decent device at this price point, especially considering the limited selection of competitive devices on the market. It's not without flaws that should be easy for the manufacturer to solve...but they seem blissfully unaware.

Wow -- despite its limitations, this 360 degree camera is a ton of fun! My husband and I took it on our vacation, and the shots we took of ourselves at various locations do a lot more to convey what it was like to be there than a flat photo does. I loaded our favorites to my iPad, turned on virtual reality mode, and handed it to family and friends so that they could move the iPad to see exactly what we saw, all the way around and up.

You have to have a smart phone and/or tablet to use this camera (a phone is definitely easier), and then you can connect the camera to multiple devices, each with the app, to download the photos. You can also download an app to your Mac or Windows PC to view the photos, although it's much better to view the photos on a phone or tablet, even without the virtual reality settings (you drag your finger on the photo to see the different angles.) We didn't bring a tripod with us, and that would have resulted in better photos. It's kinda weird seeing my husband's fingers pinched together with nothing between them because, of course, the camera cannot take a picture of itself. (The space between the fingers is the camera.)

This camera, albeit a gimmick device, is great to have at parties so that you can capture the people all around you, sitting or standing, exactly as they were the moment you took the photo. It's also great for landscapes or to capture a specific moment. The resolution is pretty good, although at times the photos seem dark. Still, we were able to take night photos that worked except for the expected graininess of a low-light environment.

We had a blast using this camera. We actually began to see our photos in "surround vision" instead of the usual cropped and composing eye we normally use.

This is a good, inexpensive 360 camera. Photo quality is good, video could be a bit better, but this and the software are very easy to use. Just be careful with both lenses so that you don't scratch them (use the included case or buy another one). I position the cam on a selfie stick or mini table-top tripod for a better image quality. Would definitely buy this again. Don't forget to download the Theta and Theta+ apps. Can't wait to take it on our Hawaii cruise next year. I also use RollWorld to create "tiny planet" photos. The Ricoh Theta SC is half the price of the S. Picture quality is the same as the S, a little more sensitive at night scene. It is so affordable that I think everyone should get one. I used it mostly for google map street-view photos and construction job site and open houses. The Theta SC is one of the three 360 camera that google accept for street view photo upload. You'll need a smart phone to "control" the camera since it has no screen or viewing interface. BTW. I do most of my 360 photos while doing my morning runs. I take my 360 photos usually without a tripod or smart phone. I raised my arm straight up, index figure extended and press the shoot button. I "process" my photos when I back at home.

This is also the perfect camera for contractors and architects. Was it far too often that the photos you need in not in the photo you've taken? Well, cry no more. This camera will solve this common problem. For a good size room, I used to take about 4-6 photos to cover what I think I need to view back at the office. Now with the Theta SC, all I need is about 1 to 2. Whatever I saw on the spot where I took the 360 photos, I will be able to view back at the office. Until one day they integrate the 360 onto a smart phone, you will still need the smart phone to take the close up photos. Have fun and share.

Still not quite ready for prime-time

I got this as the price was good, Picture quality was great and most people said it was one of the easiest to use.

As an IT professional with over 25 years in the field, I can tell you if this is one of the Easiest to use devices, I would hate to see the difficult ones

    Cons:
Does not like to respond to power button once power is 33% or under

Wireless very VERY limited, I have this feature with my little point-and-shoot nikon and it's rock solid - sure when you connect to the device you can't connect to the rest of the world, but it's fast, stays connected and has decent range.
With Ricoh, it's short range (maybe 15 feet) it's temperamental (prone to dropping, especially when you're in a place with lots of wifi networks)
Plus you have 0 REAL control over the wifi - I cannot change the SSID name or its channel... so if you're in an area where other networks are talking on your channel, you have no real out of the box solution for it.

There are no wireless control options other than the app retailing at the moment. If you do your research there are people who've developed IoT hacks to control it, which I might pursue, but still I shouldn't have to pay $40 for a Mesh button and copy and paste code and hope it works... they should have made a remote control for this.

Bad Design - Note where your ports are - they are right next to the mount screw. Now because of the nature of the photographs, you're going to want to use a selfie-stick or tripod with this often - otherwise, you'll get a picture of you holding up an empty hand. So unless you buy an extension for the 1/4 mount screw, you don't have access to any of the settings.

Not only that, but would more physical controls or a menu screen really have killed anyone? We can make $15 Chinese mp3 players with 1in screens and a menu interface smaller than this device and cheap digital cameras with all the bells and whistles for half the price of this device, but Ricoh instead opts to make you reliant on a smartphone interface that disconnects your phone from the rest of the world making it effectively useless for anything else.

Limited memory - 8 gigs - no Expansion
Seriously folks, Micro sd is cheap and easy - if you can put a slot on a Watch to handle up to a 256gig card, you could have put one on this.

Connecting to the computer - works great, but if you leave it there (like your charging) it goes to "sleep" and you have to disconnect the camera and reconnect it to get access again. - so far the only way I have seen to get info on the battery's charge is to plug into a computer and look at the properties of the camera - poor design again.

Last but not least - if you use the remote app, it automatically assumes you must want to store all photos on the Android device connected.
but that doesn't solve the space issue because it leaves a copy on the camera (and it's slower than hell)

That being said, taking photos using the button is quick and easy, pulling photos with a computer is quick and easy
I've read there's timer options but again, you have to set these up in the freaking app (providing you can keep it connected) and if you're taking shots of an activity - such as playing a board game, the camera goes to sleep after a few minutes, which of course disconnects the wifi, which recomplicates the whole remote control thing. I'll have to look into if I can adjust sleep settings somehow

Supposedly there are apps that give you more access and control, but they are pay apps (at least for android) so we'll see about that.

Once you get it linked to your phone, it is very easy to use. Not sure why they chose wifi instead of bluetooth, but it does work once it is connected. Picture and videos are crystal clear with normal lighting. A little grainy when in low light/night.

Very easy to understand the instructions , and had no problems taking both stills and videos. Videos limited to 3 minute segments, which is unfortunate, as I'd have like to set it up and let it run continuously for say a whole wedding reception. The videos when downloaded onto a PC are two spherical views, which must be "stitched" together into a proper view able rectilinear format. The stitching software from the Ricoh Theta website loaded easily, and I followed the instructions posted on the internet by other users. So I'm very happy, especially paying less than I thought I would with these features. I look forward to getting some Virtual Reality glasses (VR) to complete my 360 system.
