At her debaucherous 40th birthday party, serial relationship-killer Jackie meets handsome and charming thirty-something River - the perfect guy, who happens to be gay. Their ensuing adventures in self-medication, late-blooming, and questionable judgment lead them to discover a raucous new kind of significant otherness.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the production quality, acting, and sound track were all really high. I guess I thought that because Amazon hadn't suggested it to me right away that it wouldn't be THAT good. Well. It is. Kind of a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" meets "Will and Grace" (thank god there's no laugh track) type of show. The coming-of-age (40 y.o. for the main character) concept has been done, as it always will be a story worth telling. But the contemporary spins on friendship, sexuality, and the lives of people that aren't completely horrible humans is really refreshing. Bravo. I hope more episodes get made and this doesn't turn into a 1-2 season teaser like so many other shows!!!
Wow so... I totally learned how a glory-hole works from this show, +1 for the educational entertainment! The fact that the long lines at Salt & Straw were used as a plot device and the stinky perfume in one episode was named "Gresham" tickles my Portlander fancy like none other! Those are just a few of the fantastic Oregon easter eggs woven throughout this show. Also that cameo by The Pepper Pepper was too cool. I can't wait to see the new episodes!
