Won't be good for older laptops
I should have figured before I bought this but it won't work if the older laptop has a drive caddy which is required to insert the drive in a slot. This is most likely also true if the laptop has a compartment in the PC which is just big enough for the drive itself. This adapter extends the drive out more, making it too large for, well, anything. Also, when you insert the drive in this adapter, the connection on the other end is now not aligned to where the original SATA connection was, which makes it that more impossible to insert in a slot even without the drive caddy/box. Ah well...

I own an arcade dartboard that runs a PC at it's core - and recently was able to get the latest version of the software from the manufacturer on a SSD Sata drive. I was offered an upgraded PC for an add'l $300 - or I could just spend the $8 to get this gadget to upgrade the ancient IDC connector to SATA. Well you can guess what I did - and it works exactly as intended. As you would imagine it's as simple as plugging it in. I was glad to get it at what I feel is a incredibly fair cost.

This works perfectly for half-height or 1.8" SSDs for laptops, works great in my T42 except for the fact that the BIOS really doesn't like this device and does weird things when rebooting, but, works when turned off and on.

Works great with Windows 98 and XP, oddly enough.

It does work without issue. It’s just so big. Make sure you have room in your drive bay for the added length of this adapter. I had to remove the board from an SSD to get this to fit.

Worked well in a Powerbook G4 17" with an old 2.5" SSD drive (have to disassemble the SSD and remove the SSD board from its case to make it fit, but works great.)

It works... While some complain about how fragile it is, it's not for repeated plugging or for testing drive (get a usb adapter for that). It is loooong so it may not fit in your space requirements unless the ket issue is height not length (they also make a taller shorter version). I have both, I actually bent this one during use, but it did not break. Just realize what it is and handle accordingly, works as intended.
