Beware of weak bridge!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2018Beautiful little guitar; it’s light, comfortable to hold, and has a better tone than expected from such a small guitar (g9511). I tightened the truss rod to lower the action and improve the playability of this instrument. The sound hole is a standard diameter; therefore, my standard in- hole acoustic humbucker fit right in and sounds superb with a little reverb and delay. I originally ordered the “Dandy” which I returned. My recommendation is to save and order this instead.
My only criticism is a little bit of glue wiped and slightly smeared where the neck and fret board are attached. I buffed it and it is only noticeable with close examination. Needless to say; I’m pleased with my purchase (The first one arrived with shipping damage: Amazon exceeded expectations with the replacement arriving within days).
Happy music making,
JB
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2018The good: This instrument arrived in excellent condition and right out of the box it showed everything that I was hoping to get from this wonderful little parlor guitar. The look and feel were surprisingly really good and the tone was very cool, very responsive in the higher frequencies with plenty of that old, antique type of folk sound. I even enjoyed the resonance and the surprisingly good lower frequency response that it showed. That is the good news and the reason why I give this three stars; I truly liked this Gretsch.
The (very) bad: The guitar came with strings and when it was tuned to pitch, within a short time of playing it, I noticed that the back edge of the bridge was coming unglued. Due to something in the building of this guitar, the bridge was not glued properly to the body. It was so bad that the finish started bubbling up and essentially ruining the look of the paint and finish (see photos). This is a manufacturing problem, at least with this specific guitar that I received.
I have decided to get the guitar repaired. This is my personal choice and I will live with whatever the consequences are regarding how the instrument will look once it is fixed but the guitar will never be what I was expecting to receive and what I paid for. If you are on a budget and cannot afford to spend the extra for repair or simply do not want to deal with the hassle of that, I urge you to do your research regarding these guitars.
Good luck.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2017I'm a middle-aged (50+) beginner who has been learning to play on a full-sized dreadnaught guitar. My advice to everyone I know who is contemplating taking up guitar or starting his or her child on guitar is to consider a smaller guitar. I shopped long and hard for a smaller alternative to my big dread. I tried Orchestra (000) models, Concert (00) models, and Parlor (0) models. All were better, more comfortable fits for my body, easier and more comfortable to play than a dread. I decided that smaller is better for me, as long as the sound is good, since I just play for myself around the house and don't anticipate ever playing gigs. There are lots of parlor guitars out there now, at all price points. After playing every small guitar at my local family-owned guitar shop -- probably a half dozen or more -- I decided that I really liked the sound and feel of the Gretsch Style 2 Triple-0 model, but I wanted something a little smaller and a little lower-priced, so I had them order me the Single-0 version. I couldn't be happier! It is absolutely beautiful, and it has a huge sound for such a small-bodied guitar. It sounds much better than its price tag would indicate. I could have bought a $150 guitar that would have been perfectly serviceable, but I don't regret spending $300 on one I am thrilled with. I can't imagine anyone who is in the market for a parlor guitar being anything less than satisfied with this one. If you buy one, be sure and pick up a Gator Mini Acoustic case to go with it. They offer an economy gig bag, a more deluxe gig bag, and a hard case. I opted for the better gig bag in their "4G" series. It's a perfect fit, and better constructed than some bags selling for twice the price. Now learning and practicing is much more fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2018I had read all the reviews of various parlor guitars. I like a bit wider neck, so I ordered an Oscar Schmidt 0315. It arrive safely and was very well put together. Nice gig bag, etc. After having it for a month and trying 4 sets of different strings, I just could not get the sound I was looking for. So I took it over to a local music store to see about consignment. The 0315 is somewhere between a Jim Dandy/Stella and a Gretsch Parlor 0, sound wise.
They were OK with that. Pretty sure it would sell soon enough. They are a Gretsch retailer. I put a deposit on a Parlor 0 sized (style 1) from the Gretsch roots collection because it was the sound I was/am looking for. Have played it each time I go over to make a payment. Since it's been hanging in the store and played by many, I know the neck and bridge are well set. No issues with build. Nice feeling neck, even if a bit narrower than the 0315. Plays well, sounds real good, looks good - what else is there :)

Amazon CustomerReviewed in the United Kingdom on June 22, 20175.0 out of 5 stars Gretsch G5911 parlour
I was looking for a small guitar something that wouldn't take too much space in my car (I have too dogs and a smallish car). I tried out a few parlour guitars at variable prices and quality and found this wee gem. First impression was it is a lovely looking guitar with a great sound. For the money this is a real bargain. First thing I done was change the strings to Martin sp lifespan 11 gauge which really brought it to life. I play a lot of opentunings with slide and found the action to be perfect for this. I have no problem recommending this guitar
