I was looking for this style of chair and was looking over a few different similar options on Amazon. I did look outside of amazon as well, but Amazon had the best prices in my opinion. I was hesitant on each selection due to either pricing or reviews that scared me away. I ended up going with this one since they were offering a deal on the red and black one - as soon as I saw that, I was sold! I believe it was a middle of the pack price for comparison.
Overall, I really like the chair, but it does come with one warning I will share below:
**DELIVERY** 10/10
I ordered this chair and though I think it did say it was PRIME eligible, it showed that the delivery as a future date that was about two weeks out. I am impatient and entitled, much like most of us Primers, haha, but due to the deal, I bit the bullet and ordered and made myself forget about it since it would be a bit. MUCH to my surprise, it showed up a few days later at my doorstep!!! I was really excited!!! A+ on this category!
**PACKAGING** 9/10
After reading some reviews that stated that the packing was rough, I'm not going to lie, I was expecting a mangled box to be at my front door. Also to my surprise, the box was perfectly fine! Maybe this was feedback that the distributor took and made the necessary changes? I don't know, but everything arrived undamaged in terms of the box. I deducted one point because one of the armrests (left side) had a "chunk" that lifted off the top a bit. To try and describe it, the armrests are like a hard foam, and best I can describe, it was as if something nicked the top flat surface of it and peeled back a small chunk, about the size of a pea. I pushed it back down and it sat. I forgot about it until writing this, and now cannot find it.
**ASSEMBLY** 8/10
Assembly took about 45 minutes to an hour or so. It could have gone faster, but the screw hole on the back rest was crooked, so when attaching the back rest to the seat with the supplied bracket, I kept having trouble and eventually had to remove the back rest completely to try and see what was going on. The screw hole was slightly tilted which was making it hard to thread. Once I saw what was going on, I was about to put the screw in with that in mind and just came in at a slight angle. Everything else was pretty straight forward!
**LOOKS** 9/10
This chair looks really cool. That said, I am in to cars and making them fast/cool, so I do have a bias. The only thing I don't care for as much are the wheels - as much as I love making cars look cool, I thought it was a little corny for computer chair wheels, lol. I don't notice it as much now that it has been assembled, though.
**FUNCTION** 10/10 with one warning
As I said, my old chair sucked, so this is in comparison with that chair. When it comes to function, this hit all the boxes for me. The material is soft and comfortable. The seat cushion is good for me, but I am 145lbs, so not sure how it would fair for a large individual. The chair is pretty wide so I think it would fit a larger person just fine, plus the arm rests can swivel and lock into three different positions - straight, pointed outwards, pointed inwards. Having them pointed outwards allows me to rest my elbows on the backs of them while gaming or working. The back support piece is SUPER helpful for me. It can be re-positioned easily and stays in place. The headrest is nice for neck support, but doesn't stay in place as well and can sag down, but not a big deal.
The warning I was talking about is actually a perk of functioning, but not for me in one instance. Yes, the chair reclines all the way back. Even better, it doesn't tip while doing it, which I thought it surely would laid all the way back. The problem for me is that I was on a work zoom meeting that didn't require the camera on, I reclined all the way back and was "listening." I woke up later :-/
Good chair, I would recommend it!
This is my second time buying this exact chair from Amazon, since it was good enough so I bought it again. The first one didn't break or anything, I just live between 2 cities throughout the year so I bought another one for my other place. Just another note, the price has gone up $20 since I bought my first one, both on Amazon and the manufacturer's website. There's some small changes made to the chair as well in the past 2 years which I'll note below.
First impressions of the new one: the seat is really firm, almost a bit too firm for me, but from past experience it'll take about 1-2 weeks to break into it. The backrest is nice and firm, it's just right for me. I'm not using the lumbar support because the backrest is good enough and with the support it would instead make for a big uncomfortable bump. The pillow on top is nice, I tend to use it a lot myself. Overall everything works as intended, albeit the armrests are slightly wobbly. I'd give a 9/10 for the first impression.
2 years later of the old one: The seat has definitely shown many signs of age. Like the new new one everything was nice and firm at first, but the cushions are now too soft and sink in. If I push on the seat hard enough, I can feel the wooden frame on the very bottom of the chair. I still can't feel the bottom of the chair when sitting normally, but it is the exact opposite of what I'm experience from the new chair. The back of the chair also suffers from the same issue, and it sinks into the back now. About a month ago I had to pull out the lumbar support and attach it for the first time, because the back has sank so far in that it now feels normal with it attached. I'm estimating that this chair still has about 1 year left in it before it starts to feel noticeably uncomfortable. Just note that I used this chair daily as my main chair for 9 months a year in the past 2 years, so it might vary based on usage. Also a small problem with this specific chair since day 1 is that the left armrest wouldn't lock in the highest position. With a small amount of force, it'll drop to the next highest position and lock there. It didn't bother me too much since the second-highest position locks just fine and I'm fine with that height. I'd rate it 7/10 for how it's aged so far in 2 years, but I expected that for a chair of this price.
Difference between the two: Overall it's still 95% the same, and the changes don't really make a difference in my experience so far. It feels like they added a bit more material in the backrest to make it hold its shape better in the new chair, but I'm not sure about that. The upper pillow strap has also been made shorter and tighter. It now stays in positions better and doesn't sag as much. The old chair had it sag since day 1 because the strap was slightly longer. One last difference I noticed is that they changed the material from hard plastic to a softer kinda rubbery material for the little piece at the bottom of the armrest. It's a nice change since the old one would not fit perfectly and can make a small sound when you fidget with it while the new one doesn't have that at all. The changes are nice but doesn't seem to justify the $20 price increase.
