The #9107A Electric Brake Force Meter with Dynamic Load Simulation and Circuit Testing is setting the standard for vehicle brake controller testing. Specifically designed with patent technology for use on 7-way spade equipped vehicles, this unit automatically recognizes the electronic signature of both Integrated (ITBC) and aftermarket trailer brake controllers, simulates trailer load and displays real-time, brake-controller output gain and application time. The resources that have been available to diagnose the COMPLETE and proper operation of a 7-way blade trailer connector by the average trailer owner (and repairs shops) have been very limited until the availability of this product. This tool takes into account the many different "operational theories" that different OEM's utilize to manage their 7- way trailer output signals. These theories may also vary by model-year with the same OEM. The two most valuable qualities are: 1) The ability to verify the "gain" when (IF) this adjustment is available, and also 2) The "sync" or the precise moment the trailer brakes are applied in proportion to when the brakes of the power unit power are applied (also IF available). Depending on your power unit (vehicle) AND / OR the aftermarket controller, these two critical user adjustable qualities MAY or MAY NOT not be available. In addition, most aftermarket controllers utilize either a "time delay" or "proportional" design to apply the brake signal to the trailer which, in some cases, can be adjustable by the driver. As such, there are numerous values to measure and validate at the trailer electrical connection. THIS TOOL DOES IT ALL, including the basic diagnosis of lights and other signals, including the valuable "auxiliary" signal when used. NOW the vehicle owner can verify a simple "yes / no" for the different fixed or variable signals that are coming from their 7-way blade type "socket" on their vehicle and also SIMULATE & ADJUST any variable attributes. BE SURE to follow the SIMPLE set-up instructions including any cautionary warnings. NOW YOU CAN BE SURE of EXACTLY what is going on. BRAVO for another QUALITY independent American product ! ! ! Forget about those cheaper trailer plug testers if they don't apply a load on the controller. They won't show that the wiring and controller are working without doing so. This instrument applies such resistance, allowing you to assess the status of your wiring and controller easily and accurately. I can't sing the praises of this instrument enough after wasting hours with the cheap alternatives, making me think there was something wrong with my installation of a new controller. I wish I would have invested in this instrument earlier. Lesson learned.

Works like a charm. Was able to shoot the problem of a customer's vehicle to his turn signals specifically. His breaks worked fine. Lights are bright and easily seen in bright sunlight. Cable is plenty long to reach from tow hitch to driver on long bed crew cab truck.

There are 10 lights for break sensitivity. 13 lights would be good to align with the voltage range, or maybe a voltage readout. Feels a bit cheep and light for extensive use in auto mechanic areas. Thicker plastic would be nice and rubber corners to protect from dropping it.

My issue was trying to determine if the 2012 Dodge 1 ton or trailer was causing intermittent continuity issues. I have used simple test lights for many years, but this tool allowed me to determine I had a trailer issue, but also my second tow tractor, a 2002 Ford 350, had tractor issues. It was worth the $145+- because my time is precious.

Tried an inexpensive 7 blade trailer socket tester but the truck would not recognize the tester as a trailer when brake was applied even though it seemed to work when the tester was first plugged in. So, I bought this unit and it recognizes the ecu and applies a load. The truck now recognizes the new tester as a trailer and I can test all functions including braking.

Does what it should. It feels a little cheap, and probably won't hold up to shop use, but we'll see. The biggest problem I have with it is getting customers to pay for telling them that their truck isn't broken. The brake force led's are kind of delayed in reacting to brake input, but it works. Worth the money.

Update.

I used this tool about a dozen times and now it's just a lifeless black box. Don't recommend.

It didn't work!
All lights worked except for the trailer braking force lights. (The reason it costs $200+ and why I bought it in the first place)
I even replaced parts on my truck to hopefully get trailer brakes to work.
When I picked up my trailer, I used the mechanics tester and the truck tested fine. The trailer worked fine. The only thing that didn't work was the meter. WHAT A WASTE OF AN ENTIRE DAY, A $100 TRAILER BRAKE RELAY (that I didn't need to change) and the $220 for an overpriced trailer signal light tester (which usually cost $20)
