After dying in a freak accident, Matt Cahill inexplicably “wakes up” three months later with the disturbing ability to see things―terrible things―that others cannot. Drafted as a warrior in the battle between good and evil, Matt will stop at nothing to destroy the malevolent Mr. Dark. In The Dead Man Volume 3, a trio of sinister new stories tracks the reluctant hero on his nightmarish quest.

Matt’s search for a paranoid visionary who claims to have defeated a supernatural entity like Mr. Dark leads him deep into the Michigan woods. But when he finds himself trapped in a bloody siege between warring factions, his only hope for escape from an unstoppable advance of mayhem, carnage, and black magic is to trust his instincts, grab his ax, and unleash the ferocity of The Beast Within.

In Fire and Ice, a disgruntled ex-employee at a chemical company walks into the plant and starts shooting, trapping Matt and four other workers inside. As the body count rises, Matt realizes the shooter has a much bigger, deadlier plan in mind, one that could leave thousands dead. And just when he thinks the day can’t get any worse, the cunning Mr. Dark raises the stakes to horrifying heights.

Hungry for respite from his solitary mission, Matt takes a gig working security at a traveling carnival. But it doesn’t take long for him to realize that something isn’t quite right. Sure enough, a series of violent events rocks the carnival and a charlatan’s dark prophecies suddenly begin coming true. So when she foresees imminent doom, Matt knows it can only mean one thing: Mr. Dark is here, and it’s not for the cotton candy…it’s to ignite a bloody Carnival of Death.

More About the Authors
Biography

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author

Lee Goldberg is an ex-Navy SEAL, nuclear physicist and a professional Daniel Craig impersonator.

Okay, that's not true. But he wants this biography to be really exciting, so pay attention. If things bog down, I've been instructed to add a car chase or some explicit sex.

Here's the real story. Lee Goldberg writes books and television shows.

His mother wanted him to be a doctor, and his grandfather wanted him to go into the family furniture business. Instead, he put himself through UCLA as a freelance journalist, writing for such publications as American Film, Starlog, Newsweek, The Los Angeles Times Syndicate, The Washington Post and The San Francisco Chronicle (He also wrote erotic letters to the editor for Playgirl at twenty-five-dollars-a-letter, but he doesn't tell people about that, he just likes to boast about those "tiffany" credits).

He published his first book ".357 Vigilante" (as "Ian Ludlow," so he'd be on the shelf next to Robert Ludlum) while he was still a UCLA student. The West Coast Review of Books called his debut "as stunning as the report of a .357 Magnum, a dynamic premiere effort," singling the book out as "The Best New Paperback Series" of the year. Naturally, the publisher promptly went bankrupt and he never saw a dime in royalties. (But the books are available on the Kindle as "The Jury Series")

Welcome to publishing, Lee.

His subsequent books include the non-fiction books "Successful Television Writing" and "Unsold Television Pilots" ("The Best Bathroom Reading Ever!" San Francisco Chronicle) as well as the novels "My Gun Has Bullets" ("It will make you cackle like a sitcom laugh track," Entertainment Weekly), "Dead Space" ("Outrageously entertaining," Kirkus Reviews), "Watch Me Die" ("as dark and twisted as anything Hammet or Chandler ever dreamed up," Kirkus Reviews).

"Take me now," she moaned, "you hot writer stud."

She tore off her clothes and tackled him onto the floor, unable to control her raging lust. Nothing excited her more than being around a writer with a big list of books.

Got your attention again? Good. I don't know about you, but I was starting to nod off. Where was I? Oh yes...

Goldberg broke into television with a freelance script sale to "Spenser: For Hire." Since then, his TV writing & producing credits have covered a wide variety of genres, including sci-fi (SeaQuest), cop shows (Hunter, The Glades), martial arts (Martial Law), whodunits (Diagnosis Murder, Nero Wolfe), the occult (She-Wolf of London), kid's shows (R.L. Stine's The Nightmare Room), T&A (Baywatch), comedy (Monk) and utter crap (The Highwayman). His TV work has earned him two Edgar Award nominations from the Mystery Writers of America.

His two careers, novelist and TV writer, merged when he began writing the "Diagnosis Murder" series of original novels, based on the hit CBS TV mystery that he also wrote and produced, and later wrote the 15 bestselling novels based on "Monk," another show that he worked on. He is co-creator of the hit Hallmark movie series "Mystery 101." He also he teamed up with Janet Evanovich to write the #1 New York Times bestselling Fox & O'Hare novels ("The Heist," "The Chase," "The Job," "The Scam," "The Pursuit"). His most recent books include "Movieland" (the 4th novel in the Eve Roninseries), "Malibu Burning" (the first novel in the Sharpe & Walker series) and the genre-bending thriller "Calico."

But perhaps he's best known for his pioneering work mapping the human genome and negotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Goldberg lives in Los Angeles with his wife and his daughter and still sleeps in "Man From UNCLE" pajamas.

Biography

Like most authors, I've kicked around a bit. In fact, I've been an actor, a singer, an Emmy-nominated songwriter, a recording artist in Europe, a music publisher, a VP of Carolco Pictures and worked as a free-lance Music Supervisor on films such as 'Basic Instinct' and 'Universal Soldier.' I'm currently a counselor in private practice.

If memory serves, I sold my first story in 1999. I've been busy ever since. My five Mick Callahan mystery novels MEMORIAL DAY, EYE OF THE BURNING MAN, ONE OF THE WICKED, RUNNING COLD, and THE DEVIL IN THE CLOCK are all available on Kindle or in paperback. Check out my dark thriller THE PRESSURE OF DARKNESS, which has an introduction by Stoker-winner Joe McKinney, and the weird zombie novella PAIN, which features an introduction by NY Times Bestseller Jonathan Maberry. Also the novellas BITERS and ZERO AT THE BONE, both released by Journalstone. I have published dozens of short stories and written a number of screenplays, including the Lionsgate horror movie and novel DEAD AND GONE. My werewolf thriller CLAN was released on Kindle as well as in paperback. My first comic horror/thriller, a zombie opus entitled THE HUNGRY (co-written with Steven W. Booth) was quite a hit, and spawned five sequels, THE HUNGRY 2: THE WRATH OF GOD, THE HUNGRY 3: AT THE END OF THE WORLD, THE HUNGRY 4: RISE OF THE TRIAD, THE HUNGRY 5: ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE and THE HUNGRY SIX: THE RULE OF THREE. There's also a pulp novella written for an exciting Kindle/paperback series published by Amazon's own 47North. My entry was entitled THE DEAD MAN: KILL THEM ALL!

If you enjoy fast-paced pulp fiction, don't miss my mystery/thriller ALL THE DEVILS, also co-written with Steven W. Booth. It features a new hero named Spider Walsh, and may be the first in a series. I'm quite proud of it.

For the career curious, I've twice been nominated for the Stoker Award by the Horror Writer's Association, once for my collection A HOST OF SHADOWS, and for short fiction with NIGHT NURSE. I've won the Tombstone and the Black Quill once each, and my short story FIFTY MINUTES, co-written with Joe Donnelly, was chosen for inclusion in the prestigious anthology Best American Mysteries of 2011. I'm on the list of Major Horror Authors of the Twenty-First Century in Readers' Advisory Guide to Horror, 2nd Edition, from the American Library Association. You can find me on Facebook or Twitter. I'd love to hear from you.

Biography

I was born and brought up in Mexia (that's pronounced Muh-HAY-uh by the natives), Texas, went to college at The University of Texas and North Texas State University, and taught high school and college classes for many years. In 2002 I retired as Chair of the Division of English and Fine Arts at Alvin Community College, in Alvin, Texas. I'm married to the lovely Judy, and we have two grown children, Angela, who's an attorney in San Francisco, and Allen, who's in the music business in Austin. Other than that, I'm a pretty boring guy.

Biography

Joel Goldman writes crime thrillers to die for. He's the Edgar and Shamus nominated author of three riveting thriller series.

Trial lawyer Lou Mason is a powerful, sexy man, more than six feet of hard muscle and once a keen rugby player. He's loyal and principled, both to a fault. His wry, sarcastic sense of humor and knack for top class banter are disarming, sometimes obscuring a recklessly brave spirit. Passionate about justice, he dives into the dark water, taking on cases other lawyers would run away from.

In Jack Davis' world only liars, drunks and guilty people shake uncontrollably. Then he joins their ranks. After 25 years as an FBI Special Agent, Jack is forced to retire because a mysterious movement disorder that makes him shake, sometimes bending him in half, sometimes strangling his speech. The cause and cure are unknown and Jack's condition colors his entire life. So much so that it ends his FBI career. In his new guise of part time private detective, he can't predict when the shakes will start... he just knows they will. Most of the time he just hopes he isn't holding a gun when it happens because crooks and killers don't give anyone a break.

Alex Stone is a Public Defender, devoted to representing people charged with a crime who can't afford a lawyer. More often that not, her clients and cases are lost causes. But the dismal odds only encourage her. Long, lean, and ropy from years of early-morning workouts, she knows only one way to live and one way to try a case: bear down and go all out.

She's determined to give her indigent clients the same measure of justice the rich and well bred receive. That's what everyone, guilty or innocent, highborn or low, deserves, and that's why she became a public defender. That higher calling matters more than whether her clients are guilty or innocent. But when the system fails to deliver justice, she makes certain justice is done.

If you like heroes you can care about, believe in and root for, you'll love Lou Mason, Jack Davis and Alex Stone. If you like crime thrillers with riveting suspense, jaw dropping twists and page-turning action, you'll love Joel Goldman's novels.
