When you crimp the connector on the lead, crimp the front one first. Once it is fully holding the lead, crimp the back one half way then press into the socket. That back crimp helps hold it in socket as you press it in. I was arrky able to crimp on 28 gauge conductor but it was marginal. I am sure 20 gauge would work better.
