Writer Michael Tallen is burnt out. He’s been trying to write a novel his whole life but to no avail and is now reduced to churning out ‘fluff piece’ articles for a small-time local paper. Things take an odd turn when Katz, his boss, sends him on a new assignment. For some unknown reason, an elderly woman in town asks for Michael specifically to help her pen a book about her life. Caught off guard and hesitant by this request, his curiosity is piqued when Ruth starts to share her story of growing up in the circus during the 1930’s. He agrees to write her book but soon realizes there was more to their collaboration than mere chance. The wily woman has a hidden agenda and Michael is determined to find out all her secrets even if it costs him everything.

Why him? But he immediately learns that Ruth, the lion tamer's daughter from the circus during WWII days, has a crystal memory and mesmerizing life to share with lots of wisdom along the way. His life will change dramatically, and others' lives will improve because of her. Besides that, you the reader will have a blast as you pull up a chair too and listen to incredible tales of life in a real circus and beyond. There is much, much more to Ruth than a spunky old lady, and you too will be the better for it.

The descriptions of the different acts and characters bring them to life until everything changes when World War I I breaks out and the circus closes. Michael's other newspaper assignments get him involved with Ruth's family on a different level.

I have tried to enjoy the story plot but found the entire thing rather boring. I understand why it was on the free download list!

I enjoyed reading "The Lion Tamer's Daughter" a lot. Ruth's life growing up in the circus was interesting and unusual because of all the traveling and working. Telling her story to the reporter and the way it tied into what he was dealing with in his life was an interesting way to the both stories together. I would recommend the book to every one.

Alyssa Helton is a talented storyteller and the world she builds becomes very real to the reader. She has a particular talent for creating authentic characters and dialog that propel the story to the enjoyable and interesting end. I look forward to reading more from this author.
