The Greasy Chip is the fourth book in the children's series, Chompy & the Munchy Bunch, written by Nancy Beaule and illustrated by Lauren Goldstein. When word gets out that Coach Brock O. Lee is assembling a new baseball team at Munchytown's school, the students are excited and can't wait to try out for the team. Rivalries between Chompy and Candybar raise their ugly heads as the two both try out for the same team. During practice, after selections are made, the coach is disheartened to discover that the players he has chosen are sluggish, and puts them through a tough fitness regime in readiness for the first game. To his shock and surprise, however, he then discovers that lack of exercise is not his players' only problem.

I never get tired of reading stories from the Chompy & the Munchy Bunch series due to their high educational value. Nancy Beaule and Lauren Goldstein have beautifully portrayed how vitally important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, both through diet and exercise, if a child (or even an adult) is to succeed in any sport. The Greasy Chip shows that surviving on nothing but junk foods which are high in salt and sugar, containing absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever, will leave the consumer feeling lethargic, slow and unable to concentrate. With all the grease and sugar that the body is consuming, it has nothing with which to provide nutrition to the muscles and brain. The nutritional facts provided at the end of the book are presented in a fun way so that children will enjoy reading them and be more likely to adhere to the advice provided. 
I love how each of the characters really brings home the message of healthy eating and healthy living to children at such a young age. I wholeheartedly recommend The Greasy Chip to be read by those aged 5-12, as well as by parents, teachers and guardians in the school's education system. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

About the Author

Nancy's path toward writing came later in life, via an unconventional route. As an inventor (Pie Saver) and entrepreneur, she owned several different businesses over the years. With three grandchildren and a little more time on her hands, she decided to pursue a lifelong desire to write children's books. Her passion for healthy eating led her to develop a series called "Chompy and the Munchy Bunch," about a carrot named Chompy who discovers a secret formula (made from carrots) for super-power eyesight, called "Chompy Juice." Chompy and his pals go on some wild adventures! "The Greasy Chip" is the volume most focused on the nutritional aspect of the series. Readings are followed by a fun nutritional activity involving food groups and a spinning wheel. Nancy lives in Maine and Florida with her husband of 42 years. They have two children and three grandchildren. She love the outdoors, fishing, swimming, anything adventurous, and loves to cook, bake, and read - but most of all spending time with their grandchildren! --This text refers to the paperback edition.

Nancy Beaule is the author of the award-winning six-volume picture book series, Chompy & the Munchy Bunch. It is a light-hearted series starring a carrot-munching superhero and a very naughty candy bar. Each story weaves a subtle lesson into the action-filled pages. Volume 5, A Peek Under the Big Top, won Silver at the 2020 RPLA awards show and Volume 6, The Spelling Test, won GOLD at the 2021 show.

Her passion for healthy eating spawned the idea for a carrot who gets superpower eyesight from a drink made from carrots. When Chompy drinks Chompy Juice, his eyes "pop" and he can see through walls and trees, often rescuing the ever mischievous Candybar who usually finds himself in a perilous situation.

Nancy's path to writing is a bit unorthodox, having spent the last 30 years as an entrepreneur/inventor. She has a natural tendency towards creation, from starting a print shop to inventing the Pie Saver and a pizza/lasagna hybrid called pizzania. She felt the time was right to try her hand at writing, and has also written a young adult mystery, The Joker's Revenge. She has two children and three grandchildren and lives in Maine and Florida with her husband. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, hiking, fishing or anything adventurous.
